I loved, loved, LOVED this movie!

i just got home from seeing "dreamgirls" a second time and am still totally blown away by it. while there are a few that i am fanatical about (grease, fiddler on the roof, OMWF), i wouldn't classify myself as a fan of musicals generally. but i just loved this movie. i remember not being particularly impressed by jennifer hudson when she was on american idol, but the girl gave me chills in this flick and when she sings the showstopper (yes i used that word) "and i'm telling you i'm not going" - good lord, the lump in my throat was insane. i can't believe this girl got nominated for best supporting actress when beyonce got the nod for the lead - it's soooo the jennifer hudson show. you know who else totally stole the show for me? eddie murphy. i never thought i'd say it, but i loved him in this. and i didn't give more than a passing thought to "party all the time" the first time he started singing. so, in summation, the movie rocks and you should do yourself a favor and go see it. i'm sure someone else can add a far more eloquent review of this film, but that's my two cents for what it's worth.

I came on here to write something about DreamGirls and there was the last post from KTV. We saw DreamGirls today and I am a big fan of musicals as is my wife. I had never seen or heard this one before but I was absolutely blown away. We sat in a 1/2 full theater that broke into spontaneous applause 4 times during the movie. I actually believe there would have been more of it but frequently the songs went directly into a scene with dialog so you couldn't applaud without doing it over dialog. Every performance. Every performance! was amazing. I couldn't believe Eddie Murphy. Jennifer Hudson was IT though. Her voice, her presence, everything about her was spectacular. Beyonce... I don't really know her and we were better than 1/2 way through when I turned to Rachel and said, "is that Beyonce?" She was beautiful and so understated. The costumes were just fantastic, the story is great, the music was amazing. There was literally nothing I didn't like about the movie!

I watched 'Children of Men' last night. It's not a movie I expected to like as it's set in an incredibly grim violent future but I really liked it.

Boys don't cry is pretty good movie. Okey, not "only" pretty good, it's kid of amazing. It always makes me think. Eventhough it lefts empty feeling for some time, but still I love it.

Oh, and D.E.B.S.! Who wouldn't love Jordana Brewter as Lucy Diamond

I just watched The Departed (best picture, best director)

Fabulous movie. It was a thrill ride from the get-go. Pretty rough language and extremely violent, but what a fantastic movie.

I highly recommend it.

The Da Vinci Code was a great movie.I didnt think that i would be into it but my friend angel brought the movie over and pretty much begged me to watch it with her.It was great!!

What I especially loved about that particular movie was its use of Rachmaninoff (specifically the 18th variation from his "Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini"). It tremendously enhanced the "romantic/fantasy" nature of the film.

Just watched V for Vendetta again. I love that movie so. V's monologues make me so happy. Such well written dialogue. Not to mention the awesome action. Easily one of my favorite movies of all time.

Just watched Breakfast at Tiffany's for the hundreth time. I love this movie...my favorite scene is when Holly runs back searching for her cat in the rain... gets me every time.

This weekend we watched Stranger than Fiction. I loved it and so did Rachel. The preview looked funny and cute but it was actually quite deep and really wonderful. I loved all the human quirks in the main character and Will Ferrel was a very good combination of dead-pan funny and straight man and Maggie G(can't spell it) was very cute. The post-modernism of it was very good but not emphasized to try to force your head to be confused. I highly recommend it.

My personal favourite was "Spirited Away," but those 2 are probably his most famous.

Thanks! I have written down the names of these and will check them out. I am also a fan of the Author who wrote Howl's Moving Castle, Diana Wynne Jones. A wonderful story which Miyazaki brings to an incredible visual life.
"Howl's Moving Castle" was my favorite with "Spirited Away" a close second.

Just watched Bride & Prejudice for the 4th time...guess that means I really liked it...and not just because Aishwarya Rai may be the most beautiful woman on the planet

I loved Bend it Like Beckham too...Gurinder Chadha (sp) has a unique and entertaining viewpoint and a great eye for color...the cinematography in B&P was amazing...and I am still wondering if the shot of Lalita sitting in the indow playing guitar as the rain falls outside is in fact homage to Breakfast at Tiffanys...hmmmmm

Who ever would have imagined that Jane Austen's works would be such a watershed of film ideas for the late 20th century and beyond...

I actually went to the movies this past weekend to see Blades of Glory. It was an absolute, pee-your-pants funny piece of nonsense. It's especially fun if you follow the world of figure skating at all. Everyone, including Peggy Fleming and Dorothy Hammill, is in the film.

It's ridiculous, but lots of fun.

Zero Chou's Spider Lilies is quite good. It's a Taiwanese movie about survivors of the 921 earthquake. it's gloomy and slow like other Taiwanese art house movies but the ending is hopeful and has a lovely bed scene of Rainie Yang and Isabella Leong.

"Ladyhawke" was good except for its godawful musical score. They made the same mistake that the producers of "Marie Antoinette" made--putting a contemporary/rock'n'roll score to a period piece!

Yeah, I can't argue that point. Best I can say is that the music - bad as it is - is part of the way I remember the movie from all those years ago. It's got a nostagia factor to it now.

Yes she is. And Bill Pullman who I have always liked.
If you haven't seen it, I think you are in for a delightful treat. The movie is also set at Xmas time so has become one of my Xmas movies that I watch at least once a year (even tho' it's not exactly an Xmas movie like "A Christmas Story" or "The Polar Express").
