Maybe I'm going crazy but

Spoiler:
In the clips for the next episode when the Darleks are leading the Genesis Ark, it looked like it was another Darlek shooting at it.

If I wasn't seeing things, could there be some infighting between the Darleks? It wouldn't be the first time.

ETA: Yes I was seeing things.

Well I suppose given how arrogant the Daleks are, and how they're convinced they're superior to all other races it wasn't really likely they'd team up with the Cybermen,

I liked the Darlek telling the Cybermen it wasn't war, it was pest control :lol

It seemed that at least one Darlek survived, by doing that emergency temporal shift. So we haven't seen the last of them.

I just hope that if we do see them again then we'll also see Davros :pray

The Daleks always come back. :grin

Outpost Gallifrey reports that the Christmas special will be called, "The Runaway Bride," and the Doctor's (presumably temporary) companion will be played by actress Catherine Tate. Supposedly she appears in the last few moments of today's episode. Any comments?

Someone had to tell me that she's the 'am I bovered' girl. All I've seen of her is a Comic Relief sketch she did last year, so I'll have to wait and see, but there seems to be a lot of hatred for her on Outpost Gallifrey.

Spoiler:
Rose didn't die. Hooray!!! :banana I had thought Rose might make an appearance next year but apparently not, although it's not impossible.

Now begins the long wait until Christmas and even longer until we meet Martha. But first ... Torchwood! :bounce

"I was never tempted to kill her. We're here to tell optimistic, positive stories about the human race. There are other science fiction stories in which you could have killed her, but Doctor Who is not about that. It's about survival and optimism, and it's never ever an option to kill her."

So said Russell T. Davies in the last Doctor Who Confidential of the season.

And hmmm... Doctor Who has been around for 42 years and is still going strong, while one of those "other science fiction stories" I can think of - one where I can safely say it's a guarantee that she would have died - only lasted 7 years and is now fading into oblivion. Hmmm...

(Translation - In your face, :joss) :kdevil

Other than that, I'm still too absolutely positively stunned to say anything more, but I will in time.

Except to say that if you scroll back a page or two in this thread, you'll see that I called the ending... :grin

It was a tremendous finale, and if a character has to go that's the way to do it.:)
Of course some people aren't happy with the idea of Catherine Tate appearing but I remember that some people weren't happy about the casting of an ex-pop singer named Billie Piper either...

There are always going to be some people who aren't happy about any new casting decision. I've never seen Catherine Tate in anything before, so I've got an open mind.

Any actress stepping into this particular companion's role is going to have a hard time, because Billie was so good and Rose was so popular. But more than that - Rose was Russell Davies's "touchstone character." Judging from the way he's talked about her from the very first announcement about the new series, I could tell that she was serving as his way into the story of Doctor Who, much more than the Doctor himself. That happens sometimes - I've had it happen to me in some of my stories, actually. Watching how Russell handles the absence of Rose could actually be more interesting than watching how the Doctor handles it.

And I think it's good that the Christmas special will have a "temporary" companion instead of throwing Martha in right away. The show needs a chance to breathe, and so does the Doctor. If you'll recall, Sarah Jane Smith's departure was followed by "The Deadly Assassin," in which the Doctor had no companion. Leela didn't show up until the episode after that.

Ok check this out!!

Watch "Doomsday" again, but when the Doctor has Rose put on the 3-D glasses, get a pair and put them on as well.

Anyone that has the "void stuff" on them look like they jump out of your screen.

Very fun.

BTW, how freaking excellent was that?

For the record, we (my wife and I) didn't care for "Love and Monsters", but enjoyed "Fear Her".

"Army of Ghosts" and "Doomsday" were excellent. Pest Contorl. Too damn funny.

Also. Kudos Bob! You nailed it.

For those of you who get the BBC7 digital radio station, they're going to run some of Paul McGann's 8th Doctor audio adventures, beginning this Sunday with "Shada," the Douglas Adams story originally written for Tom Baker that was canned in mid-production by a strike at the BBC. Lalla Ward and John Leeson appear as Romana and K9.

BBC7 will follow with stories from the first and second "seasons" of 8th Doctor audio adventures, with India Fisher as the Doctor's companion Charlotte Pollard.

Details can be found here:

Captain Jack is back!

Outpost Gallifrey reports that John Barrowman has signed on for Season 3 of Doctor Who. He'll return to the TARDIS right after he finishes up on Torchwood in October. No idea how many episodes that means he'll be in.

There had been rumors Captain Jack would come back for this season, but after Billie Piper left, I didn't think they'd do it. I guess they will. He's coming back to an entirely different TARDIS crew.

It sounds like "The Runaway Bride" might have a little too much action in it. At least to the ears of some Cardiff hotel customers. Here's the news report:

http://www.24dash.com/content/news/view ... ewsID=8749

Meanwhile, the BBC has been accused of keeping hotel guests awake with a Doctor Who tank battle.

Producers were filming a late-night military scene for the show's Christmas special last Tuesday.

The Corporation said it had no complaints about the filming in Cardiff, which went on until 4am. But a guest at a nearby hotel told The Sun the noise kept her up all night.

The woman, an American named only as Laura, was returning home from Israel.

"There were these military vehicles and guys in uniforms. There were cameras too, I figured they might be a news crew," she said.

"Later, there was an explosion. Troops with guns started shouting for people to 'get out of here'. I ran from the window and ducked on to the bed."

A BBC spokeswoman said the hotel had been alerted before filming.

She said: "We have had no complaints about this.

"We have a really good relationship with Cardiff City Council. We film there for nine months of the year. The last thing we want to do is upset anyone in Cardiff. If somebody complains to us we will look into it."

The BBC are planning a spin-off with Sarah Jane Smith.

http://www.gallifreyone.com/news.php

The BBC's in-house newsletter Ariel today released information suggesting the identity of the second Doctor Who spinoff series that has bee rumored for the past several months, one that will bring back Elisabeth Sladen, who appeared last season in the episode "School Reunion". Says the item, "CBBC is developing a spin-off series from Doctor Who based on the adventures of investigative journalist Sarah Jane, played by Elizabeth Sladen, and to be written by Russell T Davies. Sladen, who originally played the Doctor's assistant in 1973, returned for the last series where she was seen vying with young Rose Tyler for the Doctor's affections." Outpost Gallifrey has heard from a variety of sources that the working title on this is Sarah Jane Investigates. There is currently no word as to when this might appear; we'll keep you posted.

Outpost Gallifrey has posted a programming guide from NBC/Universal that has Doctor Who returning to the SciFi Channel on September 29. If confirmed, that means Series 2 would be paired with the new season of Battlestar Galactica for the fall run. Now there's a combination for you... :bounce

Also - and because I can't really think of a thread where this belongs - I should mention that Paul Cornell, long-time Doctor Who writer and nominated for a Hugo this year for "Father's Day," will be at Worldcon this month, where he'll be participating in a panel on "TV and the Fan Community." I mention this because of who else will be on the panel - "Calamity Jane" Espenson! I wonder if anyone will ask them to compare the way Doctor Who treats its fans and the way Buffy treated its fans... :kdevil

Tom Baker was Doctor Who to me but I think our childhood Doctor is always the best (unless it's Colin Baker...).

Trivial facts: Tom Baker was married to Lalla Ward but that didn't last long and she is now married to atheist extraordinaire Richard Dawkins.

Probably the best thing about the Big Finish audio dramas is that they've shown just how good a Doctor Colin Baker could have been, if he'd only been given decent material to work with. Sadly, though, that's not going to make him anybody's "childhood Doctor."

By the way, he's the guest of honor at next year's Gallifrey One convention in Los Angeles. He also writes a regular column for the Bucks Free Press in the UK, which you can find online here:

Oh I've heard a few people say that Colin Baker is their Doctor and although he's not my favourite I'd rather watch one of Colin's stories than Peter Davison's. If only his scripts had been better and as for that over the top multicoloured costume... :fit2

I naturally never meant to upset anyone :happy I am aware that Colin Baker was the victim of the BBC’s hatred of the programme and its subsequent poor treatment. So, unfortunately, to me, he is synonymous with the decline of the programme.

I have only recently got back into it now that I have a nine year old excuse.

There's no upset. I get very defensive of Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy because they seem to get more than their fair share of the blame for the downturn in quality of Doctor Who, but I like to hear different opinions, whether they're good or bad.

Since BBOvenGuy was talking about the Big Finish CDs, Janet Fielding will be making a guest appearance soon as Tegan. She's definitely not one of my favourite companions but I'm looking forward to hearing an older Tegan meeting the Doctor again.

Oh, I agree completely. I was just lamenting the fact that he was a victim.

She was at the Gallifrey One convention a couple of years ago - everyone was begging her to do a Big Finish story, and she was absolutely refusing. Maybe Elisabeth Sladen's return on the TV show changed her mind.

Apparently the BBC are releasing photos of Freema's costume at 00.01 Thursday morning. This is a link to the BBC DW News page. Nothing there yet (it's only 22.36 on Wednesday!) but this should show you tomorrow.

From OG:

Spoiler:
In the photograph released, she is wearing:
a tight-fit maroon leather jacket (zipped up so you can't see the top underneath)
    black trousers
can't really tell what shoes she is wearing
hairstyle is the same as in the photos taken with DT to announce her

The Doc is wearing a similar suit, but in blue (shade not stated)

Updated

Not sure whether it's seen as a spoiler or not, as it's been officially released, but in case it is...

Spoiler:
Filming begins on third series Of Doctor Who.

With Christmas special The Runaway Bride now in the can, the new series of Doctor Who starts filming this week.

Joining David Tennant is newcomer Freema Agyeman, who will play medical student Martha Jones.

"I am still pinching myself and can't wait to get started!" Says Freema. "It's been nerve wracking but David has been brilliant in helping me to adjust on my first days on set. I am really looking forward to travelling through time and space with him over the next eight months."

Russell T Davies, writer and Executive Producer, adds: "We were delighted and honoured by the second series' success, and we can promise new thrills, new laughs and some terrifying new aliens. The Doctor and Martha are destined to meet William Shakespeare, blood sucking alien Plasmavores, The Judoon - a clan of galactic stormtroopers and a sinister intelligence at work in 1930's New York."

Filming of the Christmas episode which guest stars Catherine Tate as a bride who finds her wedding day interrupted by an alien plot to destroy the earth has already been completed. The storyline features the return of the Robot Santas and also guest stars Sarah Parish as the evil, alien mastermind.

Returning cast members include John Barrowman who will be making an appearance in the series finale. Guest stars include Anne Reid, Roy Marsden, and Don Gilet.

Writers for Series Three include Russell T Davies, Steven Moffat, Gareth Roberts, Paul Cornell, Helen Raynor, Chris Chibnall and Stephen Greenhorn. Charles Palmer, Euros Lyn, Graeme Harper and Richard Clarke will take on directing duties.

It still throws me when people in the UK say "series finale," because over here in the US, of course, that means the last episode ever. Given the show's success, I'm surprised the BBC hasn't already started trying to sign David Tennant, Russell T. Davies et. al. for Season 4.

Meanwhile, the photos are up now!

They look very good together. Love Freema's jacket.

Do we know exactly what Freema's first episode is? The last I heard she was being introduced early in the 3rd season but not necessarily the first.

It's a pity John Barrowman's only in a couple of episodes, but I can't say I'm surprised, and he'll obviously be in at least one season of Torchwood.

Shooting spoilers from (as per usual) OG - Matt H

Spoiler:
She appears in the 1st episode, right near the beginning.
Costume info - Martha is wearing black trousers and a knee-length blue coat, pinched in at the waist, then flaring out. The Doctor isn't yet in his natty new blue suit, but is sporting his long coat and series 2 attire.

I'm hoping that just because Jack is 'making an appearance in the finale' it doesn't rule him out of being in several episodes before, and it's just the BBC trying to fool us!!!
