Smallville

HIP - would that be Superman, who despite being an alien also manages to be the all-American boy and superhero (not to mention white and heterosexual), versus a mentally unstable, psychotic killer with lesbian tendencies? Who kind of seems to be want to be a man, and who gets obsessed with a pretty young thing.

Oh for crying out loud. :rolleyes

I wish they would stop. I wish they would just stop. STOP putting lesbian characters on TV, please, if the only way you can write them is this way. It's better to have none at all.

I saw Chicago with my mom and grandmother. Mom liked it ok but I think was a little shocked at how sexy the movie was. Hmmm....cell block tango. Yummy.:blush

Gram though really enjoyed it. Except that it was "too loud". :hmm Which confuses me because the woman just has to turn her hearing aid down.:grin

Ahhhhhhhh, see? I won't complain about seeing it with my mother. I could've seen it with my grandmother! I'm sure she'd have made disgusted noises all through it. What fun!

But yeah... I'd like to see the Cell Block Tango again when I can... concentrate. Yeah.

Entre Nous

Postby stillflygrlop » Fri Jan 17, 2003 8:34 pm

I just saw the film Entre Nous and it's pretty good. Although Miou Miou and Isabelle Huppert don't do much physically, it's worth watching for the subtle overtones and sexual tension (well, at least to me).

Oh, and Chicago was great too. I hope no one saw me oogling during the cell block tango...:)

Roswell

Hey guys,

Has anybody been watching Roswell since it started showing on Sci Fi?

I'm still trying to figure out why the show was cancelled. Does anybody know?

I love Entre Nous, it's a great movie. It's a true story and so I think that makes it more compelling plus they are beautiful women. I'd like to have seen a little more between them after they got together again.

Serving in Silence

Of possible interest to Dutch & Belgian kittens: tonight on Belgium 1 at 21:30hrs "Serving in Silence - the Margarethe Cammermeyer Story". Personally, I found this adaptation boring and depressing. Boring, well hard to explain and depressing because it's based upon a true story...:happy And from what I've understood, not much has changed since, which gives it bonus-points in the depression category :

Re: Roswell

Postby justastraightdog » Sat Jan 18, 2003 8:44 am

Jen, Roswell was cancelled because it had a bad lead-in. A very bad lead-in. The black hole of all lead-ins, so to say. And like every black hole, when it consumes matter (aka viewers), it emits gamma rays (aka bad vibes), killing all other possible viewers for its network on that night. When it appeared together with Roswell in the UPN galaxy, it was large and powerful, so that the amount of matter it consumed let to a gamma ray burst that killed Roswell. Fortunately it's much smaller nowadays, but it still has sufficient power to kill weak shows like Hunted or - predictable - Abby. Maybe a strong show like Roswell could survive now - but we will never know.

Interestingly enough, this black hole actually has a related white hole - located at The WB, producing new matter for the Gilmore Girls week after week. But the really good news about this black hole is that - without fresh matter - it will eventually evaporate due to effects like Hawkings Radiation. Well, usually this takes some time (actually it takes a long time, like 12,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 years), but it's Hollyweird, after all - and Hollyweird's clocks aren't subject to the laws of physics. Therefore it will be gone a little bit faster, most likely this May.

The bad news is this: When the black hole's mass reduces to a figure of below 100 million tons, with its event horizon now smaller than an atomic nucleus, the hole will then be at a temperature in the order of a trillion to 100,000 trillion kelvin. Reasonable speculation suggests that it is now so hot that it will finally explode in a final burst of energy. On the other hand, this raises the old question: if there was nobody left who saw that final burst of energy, did it really happen?

Ok, a much more enjoyable tv tip is "Heavenly Creatures" which will be shown on BBC2 tomorrow at 23:40hrs UK time and 00.40 European time. I absolutely love this movie! An interesting site can be found here.

This site also has extensive background-info on the real people involved. Chilling and fascinating......:devil

Entre Nous

Postby famer » Sat Jan 18, 2003 12:12 pm

I hesitate to write this but thought I'd come clean.

The women in Entre Nous never actually "get together" in the romantic sense.

After the film, they each eventually get married to men and have children. However, the daughter (who wrote & directed) said something to the press (paraphrased):

It was a different time then. If it had happened now, maybe they would have gotten together and married each other.

She then went on to state that, for the rest of their lives, not one day passed without her mother and her friend seeing each other. They were extremely close and loving.

Having said that, I think Entre Nous is possibly the best lesbian movie I have ever seen. The tension is suffocating and the love quite clearly seen. It's on several "best movie" lists (Gene Siskel put it in the top 10 movies for 1983) as well as "best lesbian movie" lists. I believe it's also Nicole Conn's favourite lesbo film (I saw her list on planetout).

Justastraightdog,

:rollin

Hee... that was a very cool explanation. Thank you! :) I was thinking it was doing very well, after they moved to UPN. I could be wrong, but... I for one was watching. I'm still shocked it was cancelled though.

Oh well.... I'm taping it now, so at least I'll have the tapes. Maybe it might even come out to DVD one day? :pray

Thanks again.

Concrete,

That movie IS kinda depressing, but it's also a very awesome movie. Just the relationship side alone, I really enjoyed it. Despite the sadness and the things that did and STILL piss me off about the millitary, I like the story.

I just wish it had, had a different ending though.

It may be interesting to know that the original title of this movie is: "Coup de Foudre". Translated that would be: "Love at first sight". I do have it in my 'lesbotheque' and indeed it's a marvellous and incredibly romantic movie!

Has anyone seen this Almodovar movie? "Not very gay" (as one friend put it) but an excellent move and made me a little sad. Downside- if you've got more intelligence than a garden shrub, you figure out the plot twists about 30 minutes before the characters do, leading to a series of "FIGURE IT OUT, DARN YOU!" exclamations... that aside, though, it's very good! -Nora

Chicago was good - but if you really want to see it - see it at a theatre - it has way more bite and camp - Hollywood as usual has 'cleaned it up a bit' - cutting a couple of the best songs IMO.

i saw the hours last night. that is also very good. Julianne Moore is an awesome actress. I've never really seen anything that she's been in, but she is really great. So are all the other women in the film.

supposedly a couple of the songs that they cut from Chicago they actually filmed, so they'll be on the dvd.

The Hours

Postby sheila wt » Sun Jan 26, 2003 6:18 pm

"The Hours" is a wonderful movie. If Nicole Kidman doesn't receive all the awards that exist for her performance in this movie, people just don't have a clue. :) Funny thing is, I don't really like the 3 actresses that much, but their performance is superb. Even being a slow-paced movie, you just can't get your eyes off the screen. It's so intense!

Ed Harris also does a wonderful job.

I can't wait to go see Chicago now.

dekalog, I don't know the names (i'm not really familiar with the musical as a theatrical production, i only know what i've read), but there's a song between queen latifah and catherine zeta-jones' characters that was cut. and that will be on the dvd. i don't know about other songs that might have been cut.

Oh good golly goodness... my gf and I just saw "Chicago"... and good golly goodness :thud

When the film ended, i turned to my gf, and she just turned to me with this really kind of shocked expression on her face and said "Catherine Zeta-Jones.... SHE IS HOT!". I was initially annoyed with her until i realised that i was thinking the exact same thing :hmm

Catherine Zeta-Jones.... oh my LORD! I have never really been a big fan of her in the past, but she is just absolutely spectacular in this film! Her singing and dancing is so incredibly superior to any of the other leads, apart from ofcourse, Queen Latifah (who i have managed to work onto my "freebie" list)... yowza!

Yeah, Catherine Zeta-Jones is always always hot. Even though I usually don't like the new over-abundance of commercials with movie and tv stars in them, I never get tired of her cellphone commercials. I just realized that I don't even know what phone company they're for! She's hot, and she's a really good actor too. I thought she was great in Traffic. And still hot, though pregnant.

Bad Girls

Postby themagicpixie » Tue Jan 28, 2003 8:24 am

May I agree with the "Catherine Zeta Jones is hot" sentiments. In Britain we'd all forgotten she existed until she was in "The Mask of Zorro" and everyone said: "Ooh look it's that girl off "The Darling Buds of May"... wow... she's hot."

UK Kitties: Bad Girls series 5 is due to start later this year. Check out this on the official website:

www.badgirls.co.uk/news/s5.htm

Shell Dockley will be back, and what is more, Amanda Barrie and Stephanie Beacham!!? star as a pair of con-artists. I think Bad Girls may be taking the Crossroads route to casting GENIUS.
