According to today's 'Guardian', this may be the last ever 'regular' episode of 'At Home With The Braithwaites'. They did, however, mention that the show "may" return for a one-off special. I hope they're wrong, b/c I've really enjoyed this series in spite of never having watched the show before.

I've enjoyed the series since the start, but I think they might be close to exhausting all the storylines from these characters. I mean, I could watch Virginia get drunk and make a fool of herself over other women forever, but I am not sure the majority of ITV's target audience could. Plus how many times can you watch Alison and David argue? Or Phil and Sarah get together and split up again? Who else can get pregnant? How much more scheming and being ignored can Charlotte do? Who else could be after the Braithwaite millions?

After the end of the second series they did say there wouldn't be any more. I remember reading interviews with Amanda Redman and Sarah Smart saying it was difficult to know where else to take the show. But ITV came back with the money and good scripts and so they did Series 3... which is probably my least favourite so far. Virginia ended up with Megan?!! Nooooo!! I was so glad there was a Series 4 so they could change that!

And if this series doesn't end with Virginia and Tamsin together I am throwing my TV out of my (fifth-floor) window.

Heh, pixie, I'm still coming firmly down on the side of Virginia and Tamsin getting back together. I mean, come on, in such a dysfunctional family, someone's got to have a happy ending, right?

I'm really looking forward to tonight's episode, particularly Virginia "renouncing" her lesbianism. See, this is the way that loss should be handled. Heh. It's the British way - a whole heap of piss-taking. I do so love that.

Vamsin?

Or Tirginia?

They both sound like unpleasant infectious diseases. Let me think about this.

Virgin?

Hang on, that doesn't work.

Tasmania?

It's all gone horribly wrong.

Either way, Virginia and Tamsin together pleeeaaase ITV and I will even watch "Reborn in the USA". Anything!

(I think you get the idea that I want V & T to end this series together, right?)

I thought she looked cute. And the expression on her face when she came into the snooker room was classic. Clearly she's got back with Tamsin, and you know, I wasn't too offended that they didn't show this happening. But I still would have liked to have seen it. Heh. ;)

My problem is I fancy Virginia's mum more than Virginia. :lol

Thought it was a good way to end the fourth series.

Disappointed we didn't get to see a Virginia and Tamsin onscreen reunion but I guess a phone conversation was okay :D

The Braithwaites abroad would be pretty good if they decide to do a one off episode :glasses

I agree Virginia looks better in her normal clothes :)

hellmouth hottie,

you'll just have to watch ER like the rest of us poor sods without sky... and with horribly gooey flatmates in love that prevent you from watching 'at home with..' because of their canoodling on the couch. :rolleyes

The series ended in the traditional way - with everyone arguing! I wish we had seen more V & T onscreen but I think in this last ep they wanted to focus on Amanda Redman's character at the end...

Chiming in for more Virginia and Tamsin here. It would have been nice to see the reunion.

Having said that, I thought Virginia's "dirty cow" line was perfect. It was just so her.

Hmm. Seems I'm contradicting myself. That's never happened before.

:)

I think this post's mostly filler

Oh I totally agree, I loved that bit! I guess because it seems it was whatever Tamsin was saying was amusingly out of character for her, in order to get a reaction like that from Virginia?!

Yeah well, when a girl you fancy asks you to guess what she's wearing...heh heh. Good for Tamsin.

Awww...it was sad to see the last ep. But I'm kind of thinking that sometimes it can be good to quit while you're ahead. Sally Wainwright and her team deserve a big:bow not only did they keep their two lesbian characters alive and sane (unlike:joss who scored 2 out of two on the minus scale) they also gave us the best comedy drama for yonks. Here's hoping for a few specials, something new or maybe even some kind of film in that genre.

A big woooo hooo! for Virgina & Tamsin getting back together and for Alisons speech ...she decides to reclaim her own life and not be frigged around by her mad family any more!!!

Amanda Redman does have amazing eyes. Did anyone see her in the film 'Sexy Beast' ? ....she sure knows how to deal with psycho, male, scum !!!!

Last but not least - I can't recall there ever being a bad or even mediocre episode. I hope it comes out on DVD as I'd so like to see the whole rollercoaster, car crash of a mess from the start without all those crap adverts !!!!:bow :bow

Fave parts of the last ep. were....that monsterous turret of a sandwich that Virginia took to Charlotte (instant hunger pangs!!) and the 'do not call the police' bit. Fave part of the whole series has to be David robbing the bank with those kiddies underpants on his head !!!! - awesome comedy indeed, laughed so much I cried!

I've got to say, my favourite bit was Virginia giving that clever-dick policeman the run down on the specifications of her car. Cracked me up. And the bit where Alison had just received the call from the 'kidnappers' to say 'don't tell the police', and the camera draws back to show half the local constabulary....

Another fan here who really enjoyed the episode last night. Has anyone ever done a count of how many times David and Virginia get pissed? I wonder who would win, cos she is clearly her father's daughter! They even have similar tastes in tarty women!! (OK, so David probably didn't sleep with the horrendouns Megan... :) )

To be honest, I find Tamsin quite irritating, almost as annoying as Charlotte!

Amanda Redman is just FAB!!! I don't know how old she is now, but she still looks great, and yes, those eyes :D Peter Davison is so funny too. (Anyone remember A Very Peculiar Practice?? )

Thanks for letting me know it was charlotte (i take it she was joking)

I enjoyed the season finale immensely. It would have been nice, say if Tamsin had arrived at the wedding, but I did like her playfulness when Virginia phoned her, and take it to be a good sign that all will be well with them.

A lesser programme would have had a more trite ending, with Phil declaring undying love to Sarah or Alison and David reuniting, so I was happy with how it ended.

Well that's what I love about UK tv; on the whole, it tries to avoid cliches. I liked the "loose ends" feeling about this episode, and I think I would have been disappointed if Alison hadn't remained true to her character at the end, anyway. The only thing I don't want to see is another show instead of this once a week. Sigh. I'm thinking dvds are in order. I wish ITV would get right on that. ;)

It's weird too, coz altho you wouldn't think it, Keeley (Charlotte) is nearly 18 in real life n she's so kewl! She plays in my cousins band and is a totaly sweetie! I loved her even more when I found out she's a les! hehe but not in that way :p

Okay now everyones giving away the plot, i've only seen the first two eps of the last series so maybe I should just go away and hide under a rock until the roar of spoiling dies down.

I just saw the last episode yesterday and...... (AAARGH, damn cat! She's just thrown up, bloody freakin hell, I think i'm going to have a mental aneurism in a second!:angry )... Sorry about that, I had to vent a little frustration at my bad luck over the past couple of days. Breathe in, and out.

Yeah, wow. How in all the depths of hades can they think that it's okay not to do another season of that show. I mean I think we have reached a new level of chaos for the Braithwaites, if that's at all possible.

How many loose ends have been left untied? Man, I just really hope that they can figure out a way to finish the story. I am not quite sure of the situation. Why exactly did they cancel it, because the show seemed to be hitting its peak in every aspect of its quality. Didn't it get good enough ratings to keep the tv execs happy or something.

*sigh* First Farscape and now the Braithwaites.
