Calling All Eliza Fans! "Tru Calling"

Salem Witch Trials, koala bears, SpongeBob: what's on TV and at the movies!

Re: Tru Calling for a complete season?

Postby urnofosiris » Thu Nov 13, 2003 3:38 pm

It does not really sound like they are blowing things out of proportion. They admit to losing a part of the audience, but that was expected apparently. I like hearing they are aiming for a female audience. Maybe they finally realized that nowadays women have money and the ability to spend it as well, that is what it is all about after all. The show is there to sell commercials and we are there to watch the show, so I hope they will sell, and sell plenty. I'd like for this show to find it's way across the ocean.

Well, his two older sisters are a lawyer (even if a cokehead one) and a post-grad pre-med, so it's safe to say that Harrison "I swear my luck will change; lend me some money" ended up at the shallow end of the Davies gene pool. :p (And someone, please teach him how to shave!) :devil

While I hate being considered "too old" for the preferred demographics, at least I'm one viewer they didn't lose eh? I feel like this show needs just a little tweaking to get it past that formulaic/gimmicky feel, but other than that, it's well on its way.

I also still feel like Tru desperately needs some more together people in her life (interesting that Tru said she lost Big Sis to both coke *and* ambition). The fact that she said she feels like she has only Harrison in her life, confirms for me that her friend ain't all that special (sleep w/ someone because they're boring? That's wack!). It looks like her boss will become a real friend, which is great (but not more I hope, because eww. Whereas body-transporter guy looks like he might be good for a roll in the hay, ala "I like 'em big and . . . stupid!" ;) ).

Coming next week: first of the "show that went horribly wrong" associations? ("Forest" is back)

GG Tonight's highlight: those Big Pouty Lips when they quiver . . . :drool Out

ETA: This isn't about Tru Calling, just Eliza heads-up. It's HBO-Cinemax Free Preview Weekend (on DirecTV anyway), and they're showing Eliza's movie City by the Sea (/w DeNiro) a couple of times.

I swear this show keeps getting better and better.

Geez. How dense is her brother? She has told him three times things that will happen, and he still doesn't believe her.

He still isn't convinced at the end of the ep.

the episode was good, if a little predictable, especially when the husband told Tru that if he divorced his wife she would get half, kinda of figured the Harrison was being set up by his girlfriend.

Set visit clip

Postby tyche » Tue Nov 18, 2003 6:12 pm

Here's a link to a film clip of a visit to the Tru Calling set:

zemok-com.windowwebhostin...gextra.zip

[Hope the link works, if not you can find it at buffy.nu in the 'Tru Calling' section.]

I haven't viewed the clip, but apparently when Eliza is interviewed, she says that she will be returning to 'Angel' as Faith.

Honestly, I skipped the last episode, I don't like the brother at all. I'll give it another shot this week.

really not liking her sister, i was hoping that even though she told her about the drug test, she would fail it, otherwise it was an ok episode

Eliza on Conan

Postby tyche » Fri Nov 21, 2003 3:23 pm

Okay, not literally on Conan ...

She was on the show on Wednesday night, and I completely forgot to post about it here in advance! Anyway, she looked pretty happy, and although Conan mentioned that show which went horribly wrong while he was introducing her, she didn't mention it at all - understandably, she was more interested in hyping 'Tru Calling'. Buffy.nu have some screenaps for anyone who's interested.

Re: Tru Calling, ED's new show

Postby Gatito Grande » Fri Nov 21, 2003 11:06 pm

I'm still really liking the show, though the sort of "obligatory in-your-face heterosexuality" kind of grates. Still not liking the best friend (Hey Tru! Maybe you forgot her b-day, cuz she's not worth remembering?), w/ all her "You Must Find A New Boyfriend Rah-Rah-Rah!" 'tude. (Truthfully, it's not a het thang: if she were gay, I'd hate "You Must Find a New Girlfriend!" . . . almost as much ;) ).

. . . and on that note, I hope this isn't going to turn into Pretty Boy of the Week, ala "Luc w/ a 'c'" (or recurrently, esp. if he gets "the job upstairs"). I am liking her boss more and more though (I probably shouldn't be such a Body Fascist in ruling him out as a potential partner :p ). Doesn't he kind of look like a plump, bearded Eric Stoltz?

Her family is annoying, but isn't that pretty much "tru" to life? You don't get to choose 'em!

This show still has bugs to iron out, but you can't fault Eliza: I'd be hooked on her even w/ my eyes closed (but why would I do that? :drool )

GG "Look like a stripper": that's just wishful thinking, Tru! ;) Out

Posted by H.I.P. on another thread:

from media week:

Fox has renewed critically acclaimed Sunday sitcom Arrested Development for the remainder of the season with an order for nine additional episodes. The network has also picked up Thursday drama Tru Calling for seven more episodes.

Definitely good news - but how good? It sounds kind of like the piecemeal pickups that Firefly got last year, and we all know what happened to that show. Still, we get at least a little more of Tru Calling, and that's not a bad thing.

Couple more articles on the pick-up:

Quote:
From Mediaweek.com (again)

Fox orders 7 more episodes of Tru Calling

Good news for Tru Calling supporters: Fox has ordered seven more episodes of the struggling drama, which should bring the series to a total of twenty episodes. Despite averaging only 4.1 millions viewers per week, making it one of the networks lowest ratest shows, Fox has been pleased with its performance in its targeted demographic. Fans of the show can only hope it will be moved to a night with less competition, since currently it faces off against established shows such as "Friends" and "Survivor."

From Thefutoncritic.com :

Fox Extends ’Tru Calling’ to 20 Episodes

By Brian Ford Sullivan

CHICAGO (thefutoncritic.com) -- FOX is planning to stick by another one of its struggling series as the network announced today it has ordered seven additional episodes of its freshman drama "Tru Calling." The news, given via press release, brings the show’s season total to 20 episodes.

Through three airings this season the series has averaged just 4.1 million viewers, making it the network’s least-watched drama this season, behind even the short-lived "Skin" (5.17 million). Overall only "Wanda at Large" (4.06 million) and the canceled "Luis" (3.43 million) have performed worse this season for the network.

"Tru Calling," a co-production of 20th Century Fox Television and Original Film, was created by executive producer/writer Jon Harmon Feldman ("Dawson’s Creek," "American Dreams") . Marty Adelstein ("Still Life") , Neal Moritz ("The Fast And The Furious," "I Know What You Did Last Summer") , Dawn Parouse ("Still Life," "Fear") and R. W. (Bob) Goodwin ("The X-Files," "The Fugitive") are also executive producers.

Okay, asking for some help. I have been away for a long while and was wondering what the scoop on Tru Calling is. Hot or Not??? From a 1 to a 10, what's the verdict. I want to see the episodes I missed but I am not sure if the are going to be showing repeats anytime soon. So, what do you all think. Also, anyone know if there is a newsgroup out there that has previous episodes to either download to watch or stream??? Thanks for you help... =)

Sooooo...Davis knows about Tru's "calling":hmm .

The questions are:

1. How does he know about it?

2. How much does he know about it?

and

3. Does he, perhaps, have a "calling" of his own????

Re: Calling All Eliza Fans! "Tru Calling"

Postby Gatito Grande » Fri Dec 05, 2003 2:33 pm

My guess would be #3, Hemiola. And Tara Baby, I'd give this show a 7 w/ a bullet (the bullet being the Hotness of Eliza straight to my heart :heart . . . or is that loins? :drool )

But how much do I hate that friend of hers, Lindsey (worse than the brother, since you can't choose your bio-family)? Little Miss "You Must Have a Man!" (no matter how big a loser, almost). [Though I have to say I'm not looking forward to dragging this thing out w/ the Obligatory Pretty Boy, Luke, either].

You know me: always looking for subtext. I almost thought I saw something w/ the med school student she saved, but probably not (anymore than w/ Hudson in the premiere :sigh ).

Are the MCATs really given only once a year? Bummer (that's as bad as the once-a-year Foreign Service Exam I kept failing back in the day :spin ).

Where is this show filmed? Canada somewhere? Maybe that's why it's all set in the proverbial "Mystery City" (which I really dislike: imaginary universities, "Metropolitan Police," "City Morgue" and such. Pick a place already!)

What is going to happen w/ her boss? He's definitely the most interesting co-star thus far. Looking forward to following the twists and turns (and bounces! Keep on runnin' Tru! :thud )

GG And is Tru going to solve the mystery of her mother's death---and how it relates to her gift? :hmm Out

Re: Calling All Eliza Fans! "Tru Calling"

Postby scifiacid » Fri Dec 05, 2003 5:33 pm

They really need to get rid of the best friend. Davis should play more into what Tru's doing. I like him more than any of the other supporting characters. Her brother is okay but only in small doses. I also like the other morgue assistant. All in all, it slowly is working for me. Although, my f'in sister has got me hooked on Survivor now *smacks her upside the head*, so I'm into channel hoping mode for now.

Oh...oh... foreign service exam! I'm going to take that this year. O.o tips? :whistle

Glad I wasn't the only one seeing the subtext with the med student she saved. :) Meow; That girl was hot :) I hope we see more of her. I thought this week's episode was pretty good, and her boss is kind of creeping me out. What exactly does he know?

anyone catch tonight's ep?? ?? Puhleeeezzzz?? I saw about ten minutes of the end, while channel surfing , (I had been watching an old rerun of L&O SVU) and well...ummmmm....I'd be interested in what anyone thought of the whole ep, but I don't want to give anything away.

I definitely want to catch the rerun.

Re: Question

Postby Gatito Grande » Thu Dec 11, 2003 8:59 pm

Um, yeah (I saw it). That's what my post above referred to.

I don't think we need to do spoiler-text after the ep has aired, so whatever your question is, Fire Away.

10-second recap: as indicated in the ads for this ep, Tru---and Davis, who's now in on Tru's secret---thought that the deaths she was to prevent were a case of "Romeo and Juliet". Turns out, it was really a case of Juliet and Juliet, w/ one Juliet dying along w/ the ex-boyfriend of the other Juliet. But no worries Embittered Kittens: Tru saves the day, and both "Juliets" are alive and kissin' at show's end. Yay! :pride

GG Did anyone else recognize the poorer of the two Juliets? The actress looked incredibly familiar, but I can't quite place her. :hmm Out

Thanks, e.p. Y'know, I wondered whether her familiarity to me was suggestive of an appearance on "SWUTL" (my acronym for that "Show We Used to Love"), but in point of fact, I just saw The Ring recently: that was it.

First off, I have to say WAHOOOOOOOO to the show :clap . I finally got to watch the first episode today and I was beyond impressed. I LOVED IT!!! I didn't really know too much about the show while I was away. I just heard from friends what it was about. It was kinda hard to understand from another person explaining it, until now....... WAHOO!!! You go Liz!!! I definitely can say that I am going to love this show. Now I have to wait another 14 hours to watch the next one, but I already know that I am totally going to enjoy it!!! :D :clap :clap :clap . WOW, and wow and, well, more WOW!!! Okay, I'll stop with my babble session, for now at least, heehee. So, does anyone agree with me, that this show is AWESOME!?!?!?! =)
