We can always talk about Classic Who if you'd rather

I've just watched The Brain of Morbius

Well, considering I've recently bought the New Beginnings set, Arc of Infinity, Robot, Survival, the Five Doctors and (just today) Genesis and Rembrance of the Daleks, I'd like that, yeah.

[Cyber Leader] Excellent! [/Cyber Leader] :D

I'm in the middle of watching the 'Beneath the Surface ' boxset (The Silurians / The Sea Devils / Warriors of the Deep). I've just got the Peter Davison one to watch. Black Orchid is on order.

Who's your favourite Doctor? Mine is Tom Baker (my era) closely followed by DT. Pat Troughton is third, it's such a shame there aren't more of his adventures left.

We haven't gotten that yet ("Beneath the Surface"). It's coming out in June or July. I don't remember witch. I was planning to get it, but I've heard so many awful things about "Warriors of the Deep." Then again, I read a review where one person thought it was absolutely smashing, so what do I know? I'll definitely be getting "Doctor Who and the Silurians", though. Of the three, that's the one that holds my interest the most.

Checking out Outpost Gallifrey, it seems like we got lots of Classic Who coming up. Invasion of Time, The Time Meddler and Brain of Morbius, along with The Invisible Enemy and K-9 and Company, and, what I'm personally looking forward to, The Trial of a Time Lord.

Having really come into the new series, I'd have to say that DT and CH are my favorite Doctors. I like Tom Baker, of course (everyone who calls themselves a Who fan does), and from what I've seen, Peter Davison is pretty good, too. William Hartnell's okay, but then again I'm only really judging him on the first three stories and not on later work (except for The Tenth Planet, but he really wasn't in that much) and Colin Baker gets too much of a bad wrap (and I'm not just saying that because I happen to be online friends with one of his kids.) McCoy's probably right after DT and CH, and I really wish that I had the opportunity to watch McGann back when the TV movie aired (ironically, the DWTM was filmed up here in Vancouver, and actually aired here before either FOX or the BBC showed it.)

I think Silurians is such an interesting story, it makes a change from yet another alien invasion tale. Sea Devils has that great shot of them walking out of the sea. I'll be watching Warriors soon so I'll let you know what I think about it

It seems that over the last few years DVDs are being released more often. I guess the increased interest means that more people are likely to buy them, especially 'new' fans. I've quite a few recorded from the TV but I love the commentaries and on-screen production notes so I'll still be buying Morbius

I like Hartnell's The Aztecs. It's one of those early historical stories that died out in later years. And of course Dalek Invasion of Earth is a classic. I think it's a real shame CB left before he had a chance to explore his incarnation of the Doctor. I like the Movie, I don't care about the half-human thing, I just enjoy it all.

Well, I've seen bits and pieces of "Warriors" through YouTube, and the two things that stick out to me are the crappiness of the Myrka (especially that scene when that guy does karate moves with it) and the fact that, for a rundown sanctuary base, it's got an impressive set of lights on it.

Yeah, back when our Sci-Fi channel launched (Space), they aired classic Doctor Who in the late morning. I wish I was into it back, then. I would have loved to see some of the stuff then (I also wonder how they handled the issue of Missing Stories, it would have been fun to see how they handled going from "The War Machines" all the way to "Tomb of the Cybermen", unless they aired the episodes of missing stories.)

Like I said, I'm looking forward to "Trial" a lot. I watched a bit of it back when it was on YouTube, and I really enjoyed it. The others...not so much, but I'm willing to experiment. (Well, except for maybe K-9 and Company...)

Feena wrote:And of course Dalek Invasion of Earth is a classic.

I went down to the HMV at Metrotown two weeks ago, and they have it there. I wanted to get it, but I didn't have enough money. I got it this week, but held off, deciding I'd wait till after payday to get it. Hopefully it won't disappear in the week like "Revelation" and "Ark in Space" did. Then again, it's apparently been around forever, one more week won't hurt, will it?

Feena wrote:I think it's a real shame CB left before he had a chance to explore his incarnation of the Doctor.

Yeah. Thank Gods for Big Finish.

Feena wrote:I like the Movie, I don't care about the half-human thing, I just enjoy it all.

I wish I could say I do, too. But stupid copyrights mean it can never get released over here. (Even after twelve years. Sheesh. What kind of copyright leagalese lasts that long?)

It's the same with the "Davros" set that got released in the UK. It was supposed to have gotten released over here last week, only stupid copyright stuff prevents it (which must relate to the Special Edition of "Remembrance", since that's the only thing that's got new stuff aside from "Destiny", and that got released...),

I didn't realise that about the movie, that's not fair. I'm not getting the 'Davros' set because I've already got most of them on DVD.

Has Troughton's Invasion been released over there yet? They've animated the missing episodes and after the first couple of minutes I didn't even notice! It was animated by Cosgrove Hall who did Amber's Ghosts of Albion online.

Yeah. I don't know the specifics of it, but I think it boils down to a conflict between the BBC (who own the rights to the show) and Universal (who made the movie). As for the Davros set...yeah, I was pissed off about that, then I discovered the episodes at the HMV, so I set out to build that up (I could live with the Big Finish audios). Of course, some prat's gone out and bought Revelation, so that plan's blown out of the water.

Yeah, it has...though you'd never have realized it at the time, since none of the places near me ever got it. And it sucks, too, since I actually do want to get it. *sigh* Guess I have to order it.

Apparently they're bringing out a Sontaran Collection as well, which is a bit of a waste as the DVDs are already out singularly. I'm sure it's a complete coinicidence and not at all linked with S4 ;)

I think I'm going to watch The Dalek Invasion of Earth just to see how they did it in t'olden days. :)

Yeah. Though to be fair, only two of those are available up here as to yet ("Time Warrior" doesn't come out till April 1st, and god knows when "Invasion of Time" is coming out; probably next year, most likely.)

Feena wrote:I think I'm going to watch The Dalek Invasion of Earth just to see how they did it in t'olden days.

Yeah, I was going to get that today, but then I found out that they had the Murray Gold soundtrack at an HMV in downtown Vancouver, so I went there instead of Metrotown. And in addition to that, I found a boatload of Old Who, including the complete Key to Time set, the Lost in Time collection (featuring both Hartnell and Troughton) and, surprise, surprise, "The Invasion".

So knowing that I might never get a chance to get it again, I swiped it up, and its currently sitting on my bed. I might watch it later tonight. As I got Friday off, hopefully I can pop down to Metrotown then and pick up "Dalek Invasion of Earth." (I'd have gotten it today, as I'm pretty sure I had enough money left, but I went down to the Ages Three and Up store, and wouldn't you know it, they had something else there I was looking for: the Transformers movie Ironhide figure. OK, it's the Offroad repaint, but it's as close as I'm ever likely to find.)

I've been sitting on it for nearly a month, and with each passing week I keep thinking someone's gonna swipe it. But it's been there for a bit, so it can wait five more days, I think. (Plus they got the Troughton LIT collection, which surprised me.)

Confirmed today that it starts in UK on 5th April - only two weeks tomorrow!!! :bounce :bounce :bounce

I've been looking at the 'Canada Broadcasting' thread on OG, there's lots of talk of hockey. No date at all, someone mentioned either June or September but that's just guesswork. Sorry it's not better news.

Eh, I'm not surprised, really. They never aired it early over here (or at least until after the UK finished. IIRC, they didn't start Series III till July, with "Runaway Bride" airing in June.) At least I got my collection of Old School Who to tide me over, along with the copy of Series Three I rented from the library earlier this week.

Speaking of my Old School Who collection, seeing as how I got the day off (and transit will be operating on weekend scheduling), I'll be heading down to (finally) pick up "Dalek Invasion of Earth" and the Lost in Time Collection.

The trailers have started!! I can't believe how excited I feel about it :bounce :bounce :bounce

We knew the cinema trailer was going to be on at 7 pm because it was even printed in the Radio Times. Then, out of nowhere, different teaser trailers before the News. Wales and England got a brief clip of a Dalek, N Ireland got an Ood and Scotland got Sontarans :D

I thought that the rights for the new series to use the Daleks expired last season. Of course, they could have been renegotiated, but...

And we get yet another thing to tick off in the whole "Davros is coming back, so just freaking announce it already" list...

A TV magazine review:

First appearances can be deceptive, as students of the Whoniverse know only too well. When Catherine Tate’s bolshy runaway bride Donna Noble was introduced in the 2006 Christmas special, it seemed like a good (one-off) idea. But the thought of stomaching her brassiness for an entire 13-part run as the Doctor’s new companion seemed too much to grin and bear.

But the surprisingly good news is...it works! Billie Piper’s Rose Tyler and Freema Agyeman’s Martha Jones were all very well with their comely sultriness and sexual chemistry, but traditionally the Time Lord can have no truck with such girlishness when there are entire worlds and races to be saved.

Donna nails her colours to the mast towards the end of the opening episode of season four, penned by series creator Russell T Davies, when the Doctor admits that ‘with Martha it got complicated’. ‘I’m not having any of that nonsense,’ roars Donna. ‘You’re just a long streak of alien nothing.’

It’s a witty, at times borderline daft, scene-setter, but the laugh count, notably the silent comedy exchange between Tate and David Tennant when their characters meet again, remains consistently high. Factor in Sarah Lancashire’s power-dressed villain and the cutest monsters (blubber-baby aliens) the show has ever seen, and it’s another winner for Russell T and the gang.

I doubt it was ever even that, and from the sounds of it, it doesn't exactly (re)start on the right foot, either. Of course, since the announcement of her return, other things have set off my red alert alarm, so that's no longer the worst problem this series has.

Note that I said worst problem. It's still a thing for me; just not as big a one as it used to be.

The BBC have updated the DW site. Season Four

They seem to be using a different video method, I don't know if it works outside the UK. Here's a clip from Saturday's Confidential. Sorry SLW, it's Donna-centric. :)

Well it's probably no shock to anyone to learn that I loved Partners in Crime! I know some people really disliked it, and I've got a feeling that you might not like it much, SLW.

I think Donna's fab, everything I hoped she would be :) Donna and the Doctor don't meet durng the first part of the episode, the moment when they do is very funny :D

I think the Adipose are cute, and it doesn't matter that they don't want to invade the planet. I want a plushie one!

Next week is apparently more serious.

edited to ask a question

For all you torrenters out there, is there a specific source you use, or is it just from anyone who put it up there?

I haven't actually had a chance to watch it yet, but I've seen one little bit that triggers my Red Alert button. (Yes, Donna is involved, but no, she's not the cause.)

Downloading now. Ask me in a bit. ;)

I get mine from good old Usenet.

EDITED: Well I saw it and it was great. Not fantastic, but good for a season starter. I did like and I do like Donna, she is very different from Rose or Martha and that is a good thing.

She has not gotten on my nerves or anything and I think she is going to add a bit of humor to the show. Not that it needed more, but it will be different.

Of course I had Too Much Joy's "Donna Everywhere" going through my head the whole episode. ;)
