I was a big fan back when there was nurse Carol. But the last four or five seasons. There were nothing interesting about that show. The writers couldn't come up with anything new. I only watch it for Abby, Kerry and Sandy. I didn't expect the relationship to last but hey! couldn't they come up with something else?:angry

Well, now they just give me the reason to stop watching.

Jeez, what's the point? I don't think this is necessarily going to help the ratings or anything. Grrrrrrrrrrrr.

I guess I shouldn't really care one way or another, as I rarely watch the show.

I rarely watch ER anymore either, as it seems imho that it's gone downhiill steadily over the years. I have watched it a few times this season however and liked the Africa eps. And the plaque bit was classic. Really funny, and I particularly liked when the english doctor (sorry I can't recall the name) arrives late, goes up to read the fine print on the plaque and looks like she can't believe what it says. Really well played scene.

Seeing the commercial for some episodes ahead, we see Carter's new honey leaving and the commercial acts like we should care. I mean really , who is she, who cares, bye bye. I hate carter :p

Carter is an annoying little shit with his eternal boyish smile that allows him to get away with the most obnoxious behavior. We are so far behind here. Glad to hear he isn´t with Abby anymore and whoever this girl is: keep walking. Fast. Let´s move on to his next ex-girlfriend.

I´m still waiting for the second male doctor that I can like. Anspaugh was the first and so far the only one I did not want to see crushed by a helicopter, oh wait, not entirely true, I liked that military med student (can´t remember his name) as well, but he isn´t a doctor yet, at least here he isn´t.

Unfortunately, I don't think she's leaving him. I just think she's leaving back to Africa or something for some reason. She's pregnant with his child.

Ohhhhhhh....

Well, I guess that's kinda good. I used to love Carter, so I can try to go with it. He was a reall asshole with Abby though.

So.... This story with Dr. Lewis being pregnant. Does this mean we'll get to see more of her or less of her? I want more. She rocks.

I'm guessing it's her ex-husband of a paramedic. I think he's a paramedic...

They were in Vegas together and got married, then had it annulled (I think) but still seem to be awfully fond of each other. As evidenced by her panic when she thought he had been in the helicopter that smushed Romano.

Well, it's official, dead lesbian on ER. That was some harsh shit.

eh.

I still like Neela, her and Gallant would have been a cute couple. Though, it didn't take them long to fuck with her character seeing as how they never really got around to establishing her character in the first place. It was a case of, "what do we need Neela to be like this week?" Fill in the blank, ta da.

She should have more scenes with Abby.

All the shows I watch annoy me. I must be too picky or something.

Damn dead lesbians. And a custody battle to boot. Yay.

I don't think you're being picky, the quality of programming overall really seems to have sunk to rock bottom. I wasn't surprised they killed off Kerry's girl, but I was surprised, shocked , appalled etc with the family taking her kid away. I know they are trying (desperately) to come up with plot twists to keep the show going, but really how much like a bad soap opera do they want the show to become? i also noticed that several other characters were removed probably for the rest of the season last night (army, pregnancy, Africa) which leaves a pretty depleted cast to carry on through the final sweeps period. Not the best way to build up your viewer numbers imho.

Okay - I would like to think ER is trying to send a message with Kerry's situation, with the gay issues and all. Could this storyline possibly be to show WHY gays/lesbians should be allowed to marry and receive the "straight" benefits, or am I giving the writers too much credit?

I had to fast forward through some of those scenes. Being a mom to my one-year-old son, I could feel Kerry's pain. I hope the rest of the viewers did, as well, so they know a fear we face every day.

Any thoughts?

I'm not convinced anyone who is homophobic will think much beyond believing the lesbian got just what she deserved in this case.

What network television needs to show is more of what we saw in the beginning of this episode. Two people of the same sex, in love, raising a family or simply living their regular lives together. ALIVE, happy and not a threat to anyone or anything.

I was spoiled about Sandy's death but the baby custody thing took me by surprise. I just walked away from the television shaking my head.

engtchr, I fear you give them too much credit. This storyline has soap drama written all over it. No deeper message here, just milking the misery for all it is worth.

Sure, ER is filled with misery and whatnot, but it is getting rather frustrating that each and every single LGBT character ends up either miserable or dead. There really hasn't been an exception. No happy ending a la nurse Hathaway and Doug Ross for Kerry.

Can't believe they're getting rid off her because she's too 'old', i mean please! There still loads they could do if they wanted, that's why there's writers, to write stuff for the characters. Someone is having a laugh somewhere, no good will come from this decision, i think she's an amazing character and brought a lot to the show and can continue doing so.

It is rather appalling that they're letting someone go due to "age." Maybe aging actors just remind the writers and producers of their stale, shriveled, tired storylines and they can't deal with it.

Oh well. We haven't watched ER regularly in our house since around season four. It features absolutely heinous writing. We do occasionally tune in when we're drinking, though, just for the unintended comedy. I mean, really, Romano getting scrunched was priceless in a "this is the worst story ever" kind of way. You can also get quite blasted by kicking back a shot every time a patient codes. Seriously, I would never want to be a patient there. Besides the plunging helicopters and renegade tanks, there's the alarming fact that everyone goes down hill once they come through the doors. From paper cuts to gunshot wounds, everyone codes so the actors can gather 'round, read from a medical dictionary, then put on their best stoic, "just doing my job, ma'am" face if the patient lives, or anguished, "maybe I'm not cut out for this" grimace if the patient dies. Unless, of course, the patient who lives is a "bad" person, which means somewhere in the show a "good" person died and poor Dr. Carter (or whoever) must struggle with the meaning of it all. It's truly hideous. Ah, well, at least by that point I'm too drunk to care.

Anyway, sorry about my little outburst. I just can't understand why this show is still on the air. "Friends" FINALLY left, ER has to die soon, doesn't it? Please?
