Huh: I can't (afford to) watch The L Word . . . but it isn't filmed in Canada, is it? The way BG is?

GG Co-producer David Eick is the connection to Renaissance Pictures, and LL---plus LL took acting classes in Vancouver, Pre-XWP, so she may still have some connections to the Vancouver acting "scene" that way, too... Out

As much as I love LL (and think Grace Park is way HOT), I really believe Tricia Helfer stole this episode---man she was GREAT! :bow

Both shows are shot in Vancouver,GG. Which accounts for all the crossovers, not to mention all the actors from other Canadian shows who keep popping up. The talent pool they draw from is surprisingly large, but it isn't as big as LA's for example. My favorite crossover so far is Nicki Clyne, who plays Cally on BG and also appeared in an ep of L Word ,and Dead Like Me as well.

I love watching shows that are filmed in vancouver cuz i recognize places where they are, like ive been to the place ther the girl died in Dead Like Me, and lots of places from The L Word like in season 3 when they all had dinner together in a big group in one of the first episodes, i had my birthday dinner at that restaurant. its awesome. Ive met Grace Park a couple of times when she did the show Edgemont (local tv show) also with Kristen Kreuk, Grace played a lesbian. I was one of the extras that was making fun of her cuz the whole school found out she was gay (dont hate, i didnt have a choice lol) it was funny cuz me and my friend were totally over reacting and she looked at us and was like "what are you doing?" ....it was funny...and slightly embarassing cuz then everyone was looking :geek

Unfortunately no, Edgemont hasn't been released on dvd. There are five seasons of it though, and since more of the cast are becoming popular, like Grace and Kristin, maybe it will still happen. Personally my fave on the show was always Sarah Lind, but that's just me.

Also a big LOL at all of the L word/BSG crossover minor actors. Did you guys notice that Uta was the hybrid baby's adopted mom? And last week the other viper pilot who helps Starbuck decipher the distress call from one of the raptors is noneother than the flower girl/prostitute that Mark hires second season to seduce Shane. Also Tyrol and Helo's actors had minor roles on The L Word season 1.

Don't forget Colonel Tigh as Dana's father when she was at the hospital for surgery. That part of the episode was so depressing, I amused myself by imagining him sneaking out to call Adama & ask to be rescued before the show became even more soap opera-ish than it already is.

"Downloaded" was great, but the reappearance of Anders bugs me. I have a feeling he's going to end up on the Galactica so we can be subjected to more Starbuck/Apollo angst. I personally don't want to see them get together, since the actors' chemistry is more like sibling rivalry than romance (the sex scene was cringe inducing), but I also don't want relationships thrown at me out of nowhere, like Apollo & Dualla. She's too good for his whiny, self destructive ass, anyway.

Really, I'd rather not have any romantic relationships on this show if this is how they're going to develop. (Except for the crazy ones, like Baltar/Six & the Tighs.) Leave it up to the audience's imagination. There's enough subtext between Kat & Starbuck to launch a thousand fanfics already. ;-)

I think she was in all of them Bob, but her role got bigger in the later seasons - with the lesbian storyline, problems with her family over her sexuality etc. I have also heard there is a very limited release of the entire series on dvd (400 copies?) but no widely available release yet. Hope more people do see it, that might help to get it generally available on dvd.

Is anyone else dying to know how they are going to handle the results of the presidential election? If one of them loses, what's going to happen to the their character? I'd definitely miss Roslin more than I would Baltar. She was so hot this week. :flower

Sadly, I watched the promo for next week's show (the one that aired around the credits of this week's show), so I know who wins the election. I am curious to see how they're going to deal with the whole thing, though.

I found this posted on another message board. It's about gay characters in general, not BSG, but there are some interesting comments from Toni Graphia a lesbian writer on BSG who was also one of the writers on Carnivale.

http://www.montereyherald.com/mld/montereyherald/living/13950526.htm

Toni Graphia, a writer for the Sci-Fi Channel hit ''Battlestar Galactica,'' said that sometimes the resistance to gay and lesbian characters comes not just from the broadcast and cable networks or advertisers. When Graphia suggested a lesbian story line for the HBO series ''Carnivale,'' which chronicled the lives of a group of traveling circus performers in the 1930s, she said she was met with ''some homophobia in my own writers room.''
''It was like this big wall of resistance,'' she said. ''This actually got said to me: 'Back in the '30s, they didn't have lesbians.'''

For Graphia, participating in the WGA panel was the first time she had been out in such a public way. She received a prolonged ovation from the audience for taking that step Tuesday night and had only just begun to think about what impact it might have.
''I'm not out, so when they asked me, my first response was, how did you get my name?'' she said. ''My friends said, 'This is the year to be gay with 'Brokeback Mountain' and all. If you were ever going to do it, now is the time.' If you invite me back next year, I'll be able to tell you if I was discriminated against.''

Lesbians didn't exist in the '30s? :shock
Live in my house. I'll be your shelter. Just pay me back with one thousand kisses.

Re the "Lesbians did not exist" remark-

The story is told that when the stringent anti-homosexuality bill was presented by Parliament to Queen Victoria for her signature in the middle of the 19th century, she read it over and crossed out the section banning sexual relations between women. When asked why, she is reported to have replied that "Such and absurd and disgusting thing could not possibly exist!" :lol :lol :lol

Wasn't it also Vickie who said, re Darwin and the Theory of Evolution: "Let us hope it isn't true. If it is true, let us hope it does not become widely known"? :crazy

GG Props to Toni Graphia---couldja please write some yummy lesbian story lines into BSG? Pretty please??? :flirt Out

I must say, I was somewhat underwhelmed by the Bizarro-world that was created during President Baltar's year-long nap. (Okay, I realize that he wasn't really asleep for a year, but still...) It left me kind of wishing Ron Moore was going to bring out his old bag of Trek tricks and have the future turn out to be Baltar's dream or an illusion created by aliens or something like that.

On the other hand... was there a vibe between Laura Roslin and the woman who adopted Sharon's baby? Or have I been hanging out on this board too long? :blush

BBOvenGuy: Hanging around this board too much , probably. Yes billy want s to make a little cylon family. The baby's blood adabted roslyn into a vessal
for containing cylon intelligence. She went from having cancer to having cyloncer (pun intended).Billy downloaded into the right hemi-sphere of her brain, for those people who are following left -right brain theories. Either Roslyn or the baby is the new ressurection ship.
You really don't think that moore would not have the cylons borg rosyln? I know it was only done in a obscure american t.v. show. I suppose moore could not have ever seen it., but still it lets him examine question of what is human and what is an individual.

I certainly didn't catch that particular subtext....probably from hanging around the board too much. Roslin was just there to keep track of the cylon/human baby. I was decidedly revolted by the "future" BSG, which I'm guessing was Ron Moore's intent. One of those "things went seriously WRONG....need to fix them". What I don't understand is why the military would have stopped expecting a Cylon attack....it was only 1 year, compared with how many years of "silence" before the nuclear attack--and Adama still kept the Galactica cylon-proof.

I'm seriously ticked we have to wait all the way til OCTOBER, when Stargate comes back in July. It's so much easier to remember when both are the same.

I wasn't aware that Toni Graphia is a lesbian.....she did some good writing for Roswell and BSG, and none of those episodes really had any lesbian subtext either. You'd think she'd find a way.

Ah yes, good point. I sensed there was some reason she was paying the woman special attention, and somehow that one slipped my mind.

That kind of bugged me too, but after I thought about it (probably a bit too much) I came to the conclusion that it had a lot to do with President Baltar. I'm guessing he would have cut funding or (more likely) ordered a major step-down of defenses. Makes sense in my head if you just blame Baltar.

For me, one of the best features of the new series is the "new" Gaius Baltar.

In the original (played by the wonderful John Colicos, who Trekkies like me also remember as the Klingon Commander Koor;-) ), Baltar was simply a straightforward "villain" who did everything but twirl his mustache while going "nya-ha-ha" :lol In this new version, Baltar is a much more interesting and subtle character. He seems to be on the one hand a truly tortured figure, arrogant because of his brilliance, but deeply conscious of his failings as a human: after all, he realizes that he essentially betrayed the human race because of that oldest of tricks: the "honey trap" (= the gorgeous number 6 :x ). This also gives him a degree of pathos. In short, he is one of the main reasons I continue to watch and prefer the new series to the old one. :-D

While we're at it, I must express my delight at seeing Dean Stockwell again--he sure has come a long way from being a boy with green hair! :-D

I watched this show although i really am not much of a scifi gal, although my girlfriend is. It's very good actually found myself really enjoying it, all the cast are good, I love Katee Sackoff she is very cute. I've always had a major crush on Grace Park though adored her when she played Shannon Ng on Edgemont, she was a lesbian in the show.

Looks like BSG will be paired with Season 2 of Dr Who on Sci Fi Friday. Also, in the news, I found this article on another site (which didn't list who to give credit to):

One-Hour Recap Special Preps Viewers for the Season 3 Premiere

Sweeping Distribution to Include Online, In-Store, And On-Air Across Every NBC Universal Property

NEW YORK -– August 9, 2006 –- After a long, hot summer, SCI FI Channel offers some sweet relief to 'Battlestar Galactica' devotees and new viewers alike – a one-hour recap special to whet their appetites for the series' season 3 premiere in October. Incorporating footage from the original SCI FI miniseries and the show's previous two seasons of the Peabody Award-winning series, 'Battlestar Galactica: The Story So Far' will serve as a refresher for current fans and as a primer for anyone new to the world of Galactica.

Told through the voice of Laura Roslin (Mary McDonnell), the Secretary of Education-turned President–turned resistance leader on now Cylon-occupied New Caprica, 'Battlestar Galactica: The Story So Far' will chronicle humanity's costly struggle to survive against its deadliest enemy.

In a broad synergistic move, 'Battlestar Galactica: The Story So Far' will air across all NBC Universal platforms – NBC, USA Network, Bravo, Sleuth, Universal HD, and online on SCIFI.COM's own broadband channel, 'Pulse.'

The special will be broadcast as follows:

Sunday, August 13 at 10PM NBC West Coast (following Football)
Monday, August 28 Free On Demand via SCI FI's cable affiliates
Friday, September 15 at 12AM USA
Sunday, September 17 at 7PM Universal HD
Monday, September 18 at 9AM USA
Friday, September 22 at 8PM Universal HD
Friday, September 22 at 6PM Sleuth
Friday, September 29 at 7PM BRAVO
Saturday, September 30 at 11AM BRAVO
Saturday, September 30 at 4PM Universal HD
September SCIFI.COM's Pulse
Friday, October 6 at 7PM SCI FI

*Other SCI FI airings TBD in Sept/Oct*

SCI FI's comprehensive promotional outreach will extend far beyond just the broadcasts. Throughout September and leading up to the season 3 premiere, 'The Story So Far' will also be made available for download via iTunes and XBox Live – the first longform program ever to be offered via XBox – and will be distributed at Best Buy as a bonus dvd with the 'Battlestar Galactica' season 2.5 dvd set, as well as other genre titles, from Universal Home Video. The dvd will also be distributed to visitors to the Universal Studios theme parks, and snippets of the special will be available on YouTube, Google Video and other video portal sites.

Okay, so new season of Battlestar Galactica started! Was anyone else disappointed with the fact that so many people are now married and/or have babies? I thought that kinda put a damper on the whole "we're a big, tough, adventuresome rebel human fighter fleet" thing. I don't wanna say any more, cuz I don't wanna be a spoiler, but yeah...definitely some disappointment there...but otherwise, the show continues to be unbelievably rockin'! :D

I like how the show has gotten its pacing back.....but does it have to be quite so depressing? It's like each week hits a new low. But, BSG is still as addicting as ever.
