I just saw this thread. I love the show. Yes, because there are teenagers, you find yourself saying "what a terrible idea!" quite a bit but it's so refreshing to see a multi-ethnic lesbian couple with their 5 assorted kids and ex-husband and chaotic life. It's really well written and made and coming back this month.

It's a great show! Finally a family that looks kinda like mine: 2 moms, 3 kids of different colors, and frequently a few "bonus kids"--I wasn't sure I'd ever see that on tv. I watch it with our oldest, who is 15. We usually have really great conversations afterwards about sex, politics, school, whatever. And yes, even the teenager will yell "Don't be an idiot!" at the tv when they have those "terrible ideas". Better she sees the outcome on the show than tries it herself!

I watch with my 14 yr old daughter and every time one of the kids does something stupid, I look over and she holds up her hand, "Yes, I know what a stupid decision that was. No, I'm not ever going to do something like that. Yes, I learned from it and PLEASE do not start talking about safe sex again or anything to do with sex. In fact, I'd be happy for the rest of my life if you and Mommy never said that word ever again." Teenagers.... :p

On the subject of the show...I haven't caught up with the current season yet but, how did ya'll feel about Lena going behind Stef's back last season with all the baby stuff? Oh and those Craftmatic adjustable beds??? Worst. Wedding. Gift. Ever. The definition of Lesbian bed death, lol.

It is like they are in a constant "who can make the most bad decisions" contest (except Jude). Seriously, Lena was such an asshole about the baby stuff and then got pregnant without the paperwork like an idiot. Jesus.

Christy watched it with Sadie and me last night; she said she spent too much time cringing through the bad-decision making to actually enjoy it. Even the teenager was all "Oh come ON!" about the party.

Yeah, I get writing Lena's real-life pregnancy into the show, but hiding everything from her partner of 10+ years? And inseminating without a donor contract? I would have thought she was too smart for that. Just wrong, wrong, wrong.

So, I'm catching up on S2 and I'm already thoroughly annoyed.
