Supergirl and her newly lesbian sister...

Postby DarkWiccan » Tue Nov 29, 2016 12:04 pm

Hi there!

Anyone watching Supergirl?

Her sister Alex just came out and started a lesbian relationship.

Seriously hoping nobody dies....

Thoughts?

I just got caught up on it last night. I'm cautiously optimistic...?

At first I really wasn't sure where they were going with the Maggie character. Like, I couldn't tell if she was really interested in Alex for real or not.

Seems like it's a real thing for now though.

So, yay... but worried. Which I think everyone here can relate to?

Thems my thoughts.

Hi :)

I've really enjoyed the screen time they've given to Alex's coming out arc without making the episodes all about that. I felt like the Willow coming out story was squished down a lot into very brief glimpses of them together. However I feel like supergirl has given Alex and Maggie a lot of screen time and that the emotions playing on Alex's face over those episodes really hit home (the longing looks, the obvious internal debate in Alex's head trying to work out what she was feeling).

Hi all :)

I've been a big fan of Supergirl since it started - The Flash too, so I wasn't terribly surprised to like another upbeat show by the same folks (didn't entirely cotton to Legends of Tomorrow, although I haven't watched much yet, and I never got into Arrow to begin with). It's an odd thing, I've never really read any Supergirl that I can say I liked a heck of a lot, but I've always wanted to like her, like there was a could-be-like-this image of Supergirl in my head I was always hoping to see; maybe it's to do with seeing the old Helen Slater movie way back when it came out, and I was too young to really recognise that it was dreadful. The show just hits all those notes that I've been wanting to see all this time - even when it's goofy I love it.

And Alex coming out I think has been the strongest part of this season so far - I'm yet to be won over by Mon-El, and not really sure if I'm on board with James's new direction, but even on her own merits and not by contrast, any time Alex gets a major scene it's been a highlight (that, and any time Lena shows up... I'm shipping Kara/Lena big time).

BTW if anyone's interested, I've been listening to a podcast called Supergirl Radio, you can google it - they had a character spotlight episode on Maggie (prior to season two showing) which was interesting listening. I had no idea she was originally a Superman-family character, I first encountered her in Gotham Central; I did feel at first when she showed up that it was a bit arbitrary to bring her to National City just so there'd be a handy lesbian around when you need one (not that I didn't welcome her turning up), but knowing her full backstory that's really not the case. (Even so, I do still imagine pillow talk with Alex where she suddenly says "So have you ever thought about, y'know... dressing up like a bat?")

No I have not. The only reason I started watching season 1 when it showed up on Netflix was because of this thread... you know, yay lesbians!

But I don't mind waiting. Unless there is other access. Are they otherwise online, such as with cable/satellite login or on Hulu?

I've been struggling to get the login to work on Syfy so I can watch like 4 shows, especially when I'm traveling for work.

ETA: Just finished it. Damn, why can't there be more.
