Wynonna Earp [SPOILERS]

Postby Dana5140 » Fri Jul 08, 2016 9:55 am

Is anyone familiar with the Wayhaught 'ship on the great Syfy program Wynonna Earp. This is a great 'ship that showrunner Emily Andras (of Lost Girl) has said will not fall prey to the typical KYG trope. Here is a clip, way spoiled, of all Waverly and Nicole scenes. The characters are Waverly Earp (Wynonna's little sister, played by Dominique Provost-Chalkley, who is British, not that you can tell) and Nicole Haught (played by Katherine Barrell, Canadian). Enjoy!

Do you mean the youtube link doesn't work? I just tried it a couple of times and it came up for me. Is it showing an error or just not loading at all?

There seems to be a few options of their scenes:

If that won't load at all, maybe try a new browser?

Wynonna Earp

Postby Finey_McFine » Sun Jun 25, 2017 7:55 pm

Is anyone watching this show? I just finished the first season and caught up on S2.

It's not bad, and I'm getting into the Waverly/Nicole romance...aka: Wayhaught They are very cute together and we actually get to see kissing! :wtkiss Unfortunately, if you're a Buffy fan and know the show inside and out, like us Kittens, you will notice the similarities right away. And when I say similarities...I mean it's kind of a rip-off, lol. There's even someone named "Willa."

Let's break it down:
Spoiler:
Wynonna = Buffy
Giles = Dolls
Spike = Doc Holliday
Waverly = Willow
Nicole = Tara
Willa = Dawn
Revenants = Vampires
Black Badge = The Initiative
Purgatory = Sunnydale
The Ghost Riiver Triangle = The Hellmouth

There's lots of other little things: Waverly refers to Wynonna as The Chosen One; Wynonna and Dolls train together in a training room very much like the one in The Magic Box; Waverly starts out with a boyfriend; At one point Nicole tells Waverly that she is the Earpiest of the Earps (total Buffy speak); and on and on. There are SO MANY little things, I couldn't even list them all. Just, GO WATCH and report back!

I really do love the show, it's filling in the Grimm gap in my heart. Plus, Wynonna is BAD ASS and has some great one-liners.

But yeah, "black-eyed Waverly" is definitely a concern.

Spoiler:
Do you think Waverly's possessed by Willa?

In answer to your question:

Spoiler:
I'm not sure. Possibly. Or
It's much worse. But it seems that in the next episode Wynonna is finally on the same clue train as Nicole and they can hopefully find out what has Waverly and how to help her.

Hell Yes. I love this show! Glad to have something to make up for the loss of Grimm and also Lost Girl. I thought the same about black-eyed Waverly but I fear DarkWiccan may right - Double Yikes! The parallels to Buffy are obvious (Spot on break down of the show, Shelby) and one of many reasons why I am enjoying it so much.

The previews from last year reminded me of a comic book series from a few years back titled "The Legends of Oz the Wicked West" with Dorothy as a gunslinger. Great comic so I was sure to watch this one from the get-go. Wynonna has her own comic too if anyone's interested in bonus material.

I normally wait until a few seasons in with these kind of shows, to see if they at least seem like they're trying to be responsible with it.

But I keep seeing people talking about this and I'm super tempted.

So thanks to Jen I am SO ON BOARD WITH THIS SHOW.

It's simply amazing, even beyond the wayhauteness of it all. Following the cast on twitter and it is amazing just how much they want to make this a good show for everyone. I can barely believe that I might actually be able to trust a showrunner...one who actually listens and takes shit on board! Yikes, I'm not prepared for that. I may start crying.

I do think the show is really amazing all on its own but I have got to mention Nicole and Waverly because omg can you get any cuter? And hotter? And consentier? (It's a word, shut up) (but no seriously, that they had that conversation on consent was so super awesome)

Have you guys seen the theory about Waverly being Wynonna's baby? She travels through time next week and it fits in with the stuff in Willa's diary. There very easily could be something I'm missing but it's a pretty interesting idea nonetheless.

On this weeks episode of Buffy The Vampire Slayer Wynonna Earp...
Spoiler:
Our hero, Buffy Wynonna is kidnapped by Giles Juan Carlos and taken to an abandoned church.
Buffy Wynonna recites a spell, falls asleep and is transported back to the 1800's and meets the first slayer/master the real life Bo Bo Del Ray. She then wanders through time, like a ghost and learns about the Slayer/master Earp curse.

Meanwhile, back in the real world, our favorite lesbian couple Willow and Tara Waverly and Nicole are playing pool at The Bronze Shortys. They are approached by Dawn Tamara and it is suggested they throw Buffy Wynonna a surprise baby shower. While our girls are decorating The Bronze Shorty's, Tara Nicole remarks to Willow how hard it is to break into the Scoobies Earp gang and how difficult it is to be an outsider. While waiting for Buffy Wynonna, Dawn Tamara gets Willow Waverly drunk and she accidentally reaches into Tara's Nicole's purse and finds the letter with the DNA results. Our girls now appear to switch. Tara Waverly confronts Willow Nicole and they argue. Tara Waverly accuses Willow Nicole of trying to control her. Tara Waverly leaves and tells Willow Nicole not to follow her.

Back at the church, Xander Dolls learns from Giles Juan Carlos that he is dying and that Buffy cannot be woken up or she'll die. Giles Juan Carlos tells Xander Dolls that the sisters have arrived and he needs to protect Buffy Wynonna at all costs. Then in a surprise crossover, Giles Juan Carlos is being eaten by two Walkers! They retreat and Dolls kills Giles Juan Carlos at his own request. He then enters the church, barricades the doors and passes out next to Buffy Wynonna. The creepy sisters set the church on fire and in her vision quest sleep state, Buffy Wynonna starts to choke on the smoke and is now able to be seen by the dying first slayer/Master Bo Bo Delray. She says some things to him that change the future. Buffy Wynonna can't wake up and dies.

Back in the present, Xander Dolls revives a non breathing Buffy Wynonna. He tells her she was dead for about 70 seconds and they laugh, but neither realize the consequences and at the end of the show, we see that a new slayer is chosen Revenant is resurrected.

I think what Wynonna Earp has done great so far in is paying homage to the good things and acknowledging what a trailblazer Buffy was.

But it's not Buffy 2.0. It has its own appeal and while I see some scene-for-scene comparisons, I don't think the characters are copies at all. Plus it's respecting its fans far more, so I guess I want to return that respect as its own entity.

There'll always be common themes in genre shows and there will always be points that make it stand out on its own. I think WE is its own unique flavor and that's what makes me like it so much.

In like Flynn!

I have missed smart empowering television. W.E. has reminded me how much I loved BTVS and how W/T helped me see who I am. I'm shipping this show so hard and as much as I loved BTVS, I never related to Buffy. The moment I started watching Wynonna I could see myself in her and every sarcastic comment makes me giddy. The real bonus blanket here is Wayhaught and the all around respect Emily Andras has for the characters and for all of us shipping them. As far as it mirroring BTVS, I think that's why I'm attracted to the it. The characters are three dimensional and as great as season one was this current season is blowing it out of the water. The showrunner gets it. She gets the importance of representation not only for Wayhaught but for women in general.
Spoiler:
And Melanie Scrofano kicking ass as a pregnant Scifi heroine. That's something I really appreciate. Episode 9 fight scenes and the baby belly high five. I'm out of my mind for friday nights.

Ok Laragh and Dark Wiccan...everyone calm down.

First, I love the show and I never said it couldn't stand on its own. Secondly, I was just having a little fun with last weeks episode and all the similarities to specific Buffy plot lines and dialogue. No, the characters are not carbon copies and neither are the storylines, but it's kinda fun finding all the little similarities. Plus, I'm not the only one who sees this. I watched the video from the con and one of the first questions touched on the very same thing.

Case in point: My wife, who has only seen a handful of Buffy episodes, even questioned it last week. I think her exact words were, "Hey, didn't this same thing with the dying and coming back happen to Buffy?"

I love that whoever is writing these episodes is sort of paying homage to Buffy, but in a more mature and badass kinda way. I never was a huge fan of Buffy herself, but I'm totally digging Wynonna. She is definitely less self involved than Buffy, but equally conflicted. I think it's gonna be really interesting to see if all the revenants reanimate or if it was just BoBo and how Wynonna will handle that mentally with everything else going on in her life.

Anyway, please don't get serious over my last post, because it definitely wasn't meant to be taken seriously.

Hey Shelby,

Speaking for myself I wasn't "angry" or "riled-up" about the Buffy comparison. I just agreed that the show stands on it's own. Especially in regards to how it treats its fans.

I actually use the similarities to Buffy as an "infection vector" to get people interested in WE all the time.

So there was no "getting serious" about your post, I actually thought it was pretty funny.

Cheers,

Yeah, I think some tone might have been misinterpreted here.

I was just sharing that I thought Wynonna Earp deserves to stand out on its own. I have my own bad blood with Buffy and honestly I just think WE is a better show.

Most series that get a more condensed season often tell better stories, really. I think it has a lot to say and says it well. That's all.

Look, there's one thing we can all agree on:
