Andromeda

During the summer rerun season of blahs, late at night I began to watch this show, w/ Kevin Sorbo, to satiate my network TV scifi jones. Since I'm very late into the main plot line, I find it a bit hard to follow, but I think I'm getting the gist of it. Basically Capt. Dylan Hunt and his crew go out on a big-ass ship leading a group of forces called 'The Commonwealth' against all universal evil, the primary force of that evil being the Nietschians. At one point he was out, Buck Rogers-style, for 300 years before ending up in this current predicament. So, anyway, I'm trying to follow this show the best I can and I've made several observations:

1. Laura Beltram as Trance Gemini is soooooooo hot :thud , but what exactly does her charcter do?

2. Seamus should be shot; he's soooooooo annoying.

3. Is Keith H. Cobb no longer on the show? His acting was very Shakespearian, and thus cool.

4. It seems like there are 3 versions of Andromeda the hologram, the on-screen representation and the humanoid/android (?) who goes by Romy (???), all of whom seem to be played by Lexa Doig. Am I correct in stating this or am I totally off base; and if I am off base what's is the true story?

You're input on this show is most welcome.

You're pretty close but it's more like this, the year is ten thousand and the commonwealth has been around for a few centuries the nietzscheans are genetically modified humans who took nitezsche a little too literally, who felt betrayed by the commonwealth peace treaty with the magog and had been quietly planning to retaliate for this which is how dylan gets sucked into the edge of a black hole(enough to slow time for him)and gets pulled out 300 years later by a salvage runner hired by someone who wants to sell the ship(skipping ahead a little bit)Dylan decides to try to restart the commonwealth.Purple Trance was hot, the gold one not so much imo she seems to be able to predict the future but is not very forthcoming about her race of people.I've heard bits and pieces about KHC apparently he was unhappy about the way his character was going and wanted to leave he and kevin parted on good terms i hear and he might come back occasionally (4) that's right :banned :dumbo

One thing you need to know about Andromeda is that it originally had a complex overall story-arc that had been created by Robert Hewitt Wolfe, who had been hired to develop Gene Roddenberry's concept. Then midway through the second season he got the boot from Majel Roddenberry and Kevin Sorbo, because they thought the story-arc was too complex and confusing (and admittedly, they did have a point - I like Robert Hewitt Wolfe, but he's no Straczynski).

Since that time, the show has done a bit of wandering around, especially in episodes written by new show-runner Bob Engels - I can't figure out what half his episodes are about. But even so, there's still enough good stuff for me to keep watching.

Trance has always been a mysterious character. She's more powerful than she looks, and she knows more than she's telling, but exactly what she knows and what she can do is something they've never said. I can't help wondering if Robert Hewitt Wolfe had one idea and now the show has another.

And yes, Rommie has three different manifestations. In fact, when Lexa Doig was auditioning for the part, one of the things they made her do was act out a scene where the three manifestations are arguing with each other. One other bit of trivia about Lexa Doig is that she's married to Michael Shanks, aka Daniel Jackson of Stargate SG-1.

Thanks, Bob and VX, for the back story. I'm going to try and pay attention to this show more from now on. Since Andromeda competes w/ SNL where I live, it's tough to see on a consistent basis depending on the latter's quality of hosts, musical guests and skit material.
