At Home With the Braithwaites

Postby Zippy » Wed Mar 19, 2003 1:03 pm

Ok, here it is the all singing, all drinking, At home with the Braithwaites Thread! Thank you Xita!

For anybody wondering what the hell all of us British kittens have been getting excited about then you can check out this site for the history of the show. www.athomewiththebraithwaites.co.uk

I know it is hardly ground breaking stuff but it is very funny and Sarah Smart is beautiful (see my avatar):p & it is nice to see a TV character who drinks more than I do.

So post here to your hearts content. Will Virginia stay with Megan? Will Alyson get to keep all her money? Will Sarah ever learn to stay away from married men? & what will Charlotte destroy next?

Here are some posts from the other thread:

Laika 27:

On the U.K. television front...it's great to see At Home With The Braithwaites returning tomorrow - lurching from one farcical disaster to another, spiraling further down the toilet each week ! Plus the funniest lesbian character ever, and a terrific script - well worth staying in for.

Boomstick79:

And yes , I too am chuffed that At Home With The Braithwaites is back - so much so I am of to watch the video now after getting back form my exploits at Linkin Park - dammit those chaps rock a fat one live

SJ:

The first ep of the fourth series of At Home With The Braithwaites was prtetty good.

Virginia is a great character

Thought the fantasy scenes were pretty funny.

Laika 27:

The return of At Home With The Braithwaites was truely magnificent - I see it's comes up on the Sex & Chocolate MKF ! It's like a whole years worth of dreaded soap opera manicly squeezed into fifty minutes...exactly how it should be - hilarious !. It's great to have two t.v. programmes in one week that are actually worth watching.

AlexisWillow:

What are the chances of you winning 38Million in the lottery? the odds are high, yet once this family win the jackpot, it seems that anything and everything seems to happen to them, no matter how high the odds! - nothing is impossible!

At Home with the Braithwaietes is fantastic! Virginia is so adorable - probably becuse she is totally blinded by love and lust. But her heart is in the right place - ususally!

is the only show at the mo i would set my VCR for, and call home just before it starts to make sure that someone is by the VCR making sure that it records okay! - (hello, Geek here!)

SJ:

Agree with you about Virginia, such a great character

This week's ep should be good as there is a Bollywood wedding fantasy sequence with Virginia and Megan

Zippy:

Am I the only person rooting for Virginnia to get back together with Tamsin?

Virginnia is amazing, just look at my avatar!

If only I could find a screen cap of her in her glasses

tyche:

I managed to see 'At Home With The Braithwaites' for the first ever time last week, and I think Virginia is great. And, oddly, Tamsin reminded me a little of Willow.

Oh, and the reason I actually came to post in this thread: UK folks might be interested to know that the 17th London lesbian and gay film festival is on from 2nd-16th April. Check out their website:

www.llgff.org.uk/

for more information.

Laika 27:

Virginia and Tamsin have just got to get back together !!!but just imagine what the blessing ceremony of Virginia and Megan could be like - frigging mind blowing !!! I've a very strong feeling that sadly this could be the last series .

AlexisWillow:

boo - not the last series nooooooooooo!

Got a hell of a shock today at work - who else did i bump into in the lift, non other than...........

.... Amanda Redmond! Lol - i would have looked shockingly pink if it was Sarah Smart :blush

I too want Virginia and Tamsin to get back together, and you soo know Virginia wants it too, but bless her is flabbergasted at her Moms acceptance of the blessing and of what Megan would do.

Tamsin More reminds me of Tara. you know with the total love of Vriginia, even though Virginia is with Megan. But lets her be with who she thinks is right. Just like with the Oz/Willow thing.

That ep was so cool - "you got to be with the person you l-love", "I am" :willow :love :tara

SJ:

I want Virginia to get back with Tamsin too.

Next week's ep will be interesting :glasses

themagicpixie:

I thought last week's scenes with Tamsin, Megan and baby Rowena were very cute. When Virginia is surprised to hear the baby's name and tells Tamsin: "That's my middle name..." and Tamsin says, "I know." Awww! She's named the baby after her!

And T telling V she didn't want her to leave. Come on Virginia, choose Tamsin. I was never a big fan of her and before last week would have hoped V would get a completely new girlfriend but now I think they belong together.

(A U-turn, but I have seen the light now! Megan, I think, is still after the money. Did you see the way she looked at David after he said he was going for £19m? Plus how can Virginia forget what Megan said to her: "You're a millionaire's daughter. I was desperate. Work it out!")

BTW AlexisWillow you work somewhere where Amanda Redman is?! Cool. Let's see. She was on that daytime interview show yesterday right?

Zippy:

Quote:
Megan, I think, is still after the money. Did you see the way she looked at David after he said he was going for £19m?

Plus there was the big grin when Alyson said they could have 25K for the blessing 'cause that was what was spent on Sarah's wedding to Phil.

:kitty

Laika 27:

Yep, I reckon if David gets the 19 million Megan will go after him...leaving Virginia and Tamsin together

Alison will go after the gardener . Nix 42 has asked for a potted history of the Braithwaites - now that's what I call a challenge !! Can you get it on DVD ?

Zippy:

You can definately get the first series on VHS, probably on DVD too, but the other two aren't available.

Virginnia's history on the show would read, got pissed, failed exams, got pissed, got kicked out of uni, got pissed, foundout her mum was a millionaire, got pissed, got a new car, lusted after Megan, got pissed, got together with Tamsin, got pissed, help deliver her sister's baby, got pissed, started to imbezzel money from her mum, got pissed, split up with Tamsin, got pissed, got together with Megan, got pissed, imbezzelled more money, got pissed, got found out, got pissed , tried to kill herself, got back with Tasmin, found out Tamisn was pregnant, got pissed, messed around with Megan again, got pissed, split up with Tamsin, got together with Megan again, got pissed, argued with her mum, got pissed, bumped into Tamsin, looked aftr Tamsin's daughter, got it on with Tamsin, made up with mum & is getting her relationship with Megan blessed.

Have I missed anything out ?

Laika 27:

Yep, you missed out the bit where Virginia got pissed !!!

Big thanks:wink

AlexisWillow:

LOL - errr... can't wait for tomorrows ep! - VHS is on timer and am scared that somthing funky is going to happen with it, so any of you kittens also taping it, and mine stuffs up - me want copy! Of course i would do the same for any of you guys!

been looking for the braitwaites series on VHS and DVD but no luck. Only series 1 on VHS.

themagicpixie you eyes are as keen as an eagle who keeps up appointments with the eye doctor! Yes Amanda Redmon was on "Today with Des & Mel" yesterday... watch the credits and you'll see where i work!

SJ:

Keep an eye on tv schedules today as it was mentioned that the news maybe on earlier.

AHWTB could get moved around the tv shedules and be on at a different time to what's printed in the listings.

bluemote:

zippy, that was hilarious!

i think she wandered around looking bedragled yet sexy quite a lot too. it's a hard look to pull off....

themagicpixie:

NB Braithwaites fans - the internet TV listings seems to suggest, contrary to the newspaper schedules, that it's on at 9.30pm tonight, to allow for a news bulletin @ 9pm in light of the Iraq situation. The whole schedule is subject to change and might get changed back again...:

Teletext:

www.teletext.co.uk/tvplus...1&Period=2

Ananova:

www.ananova.com/tv/frontp...=day1&c=35

So check this out, if you are setting your videos.

ETA: Zippy: LOL! I love Virginia.

AlexisWillow: Well I had the day off college on Monday but instead of doing anything constructive, I watched daytime TV!

I read on the tv recommendation thread that people were asking about the series being avalible to buy, well, season 1 is avalible on VHS, iam not sure about dvd, but if you go to amazon.co.uk you can buy it.

As for the rest of the seasons they are not avalible to buy cos Granada (i think thats the company) are being arsey about it, however you can write to them and tell them to relese them or else...lol

Well, I'm a British Kitten, and I have no idea what this is all about seeing as I have somehow managed to miss all 3 previous series.

That being said, Laika27 has kindly brought me up to speed, and I will be watching tonight.

Nix42, I tuned in for the first ever time last week, and I managed to understand what was going on, so I don't think it'll be too difficult to understand if you're a new viewer. I mainly tuned in to see Sarah Smart - I really liked her in 'Sparkhouse', which was recently on BBC1.

And tonight's episode is British TV's first ever lesbian Bollywood-style wedding ceremony. Should be interesting. ;)

Also, there's a short interview with Sarah Smart in this week's 'heat' magazine (Geri Halliwell cover.) I thought people would appreciate reading it, so here it is. (Note: minor spoilers included.)

Quote:
Sarah Smart

Julie Emery catches up with 'heat's favourite stroppy millionaire lesbian, Virginia Braithwaite.

Do you have a lot of fun playing Virginia?

She's a great character. I think a lot of people identify with her. She's hilarious. And Virginia gets pissed all the time, so yes, she's great fun to play. Plus she looks scruffy all the time so I don't have to get dressed up for work in the morning.

I heard Virginia wears a dress in the final episode...

Yes she does. The crew aren't used to seeing her looking glamorous, so when I have to put on a sparkly dress they're like, "Oh, hell-o, who are you?"

You were the envy of the 'heat' ladies when you got to snog Joe McFadden in 'Sparkhouse'

[Laughs] Well, Joe's gorgeous and really lovely.

Is it easier kissing men or women on screen?

It's easier to kiss a woman, to be honest. You can have a real laugh. Me and Julie [Graham, who plays Megan] get on really well and we know how each other feels. You can pick up the vibes because women are much more giving in that respect, emotionally.

Who does Virginia really want, Megan or Tamsin?

Megan's her fantasy woman, but in her heart she wants Tamsin, but in her pants she wants Megan. She knows she should be with Tamsin but Megan just keeps drawing her away. But now her fantasy about Megan has turned into reality and it's all gone a bit sour.

Do the public sometimes confuse you with Virginia?

A lot of people think I'm a lesbian because I play one, although I do get great letters from women telling me about their sexuality. I think a couple of people have tried to come out to me, but both times I was out with my mates in the pub so it wasn't the right place for it. Because Virginia takes no shit and she's cool, I think she is kind of a role model.

So people don't think you're really a millionaire?

The weirdest one was this bloke who said to me, "You're the luckiest girl in the world. Your mum's won £38 million and you're an actress." So he got it really confused.

Who's the most dysfunctional family on TV - the Braithwaites or the Osbournes?

[Laughs] I hadn't thought about that before. God, I think they're as bad as each other. And their mum's a bit mad as well, isn't she? Actually, the Braithwaites are quite similar to the Osbournes, except they haven't got as many animals.

Oh, and Joe McFadden is doing one of the voices for Ghosts of Albion. So there's a connection between Virginia/Sarah and Amber/Tara, which is pretty cool.

I have been seeing the trailers for the last few years on TV but never actually watched any of it.

Until last night, that is. Spurred on by the discussions on the recommendation thread, I decided to give it a go, and I have to say I’ve really enjoyed it.

Since I am a newbie to this series, I was kinda taken aback by the Bollywood wedding but it did give me a chuckle…

So thank you, Kittens, I have just added a new weekly rendezvous to my TV agenda!

Dat Megan, she eeevil, evil I tell you! Actually I have met the actress who plays her as she was in "Cat on A Hot Tin Roof" at our local theatre a few years back. I was in the youth theatre there. The actress Julie Graham, she cool, but Megan - she evil.

I saw this for the first time last week, and can't believe I've missed out on such fun! The mix of humour and drama is great, and there are some wonderful characters. Must track down some past episodes now. I see that season one is available on video, so may be purchasing that at some stage.

thanks veronsmygirl for clearing that up for me. At least Virginia realises finally what she is made of!

I used to have series 2 on VHS 2, but I truly wore out the tapes as a few months ago, my VCR refused to release the VHS with Megan and Virginia drunk in a club together... so i forced it out of the machine - thus resulting in lots of screwed up chewed up tape! :sob

It seems to be up in the air whether it will be on at 9.30pm again tomorrow to make way for the 9pm news, so keep an eye on the TV schedules if you're taping this.

(and the trailers being aired on ITV1 this week give away a lot of what happens in this ep so hide when they come on if you don't want to know before tomorrow!)
