Reality TV

Postby xita » Tue Mar 25, 2003 11:26 pm

I know many hate it, but many of us have one or 2 shows we like. So this is the thread to indulge in your favorite reality guilty pleasure.

No secret I am into American Idol. So that's what my first post is about. Tonight I loved Ruben, even if he sang Sweet Home Alabama ;) I love Julia but she just isn't performing, I expect she'll get kicked out tomorrow. I also think I am the only person who doesn't like Clay at all. He needs to go sing on Broadway. Corey is the worst singer of all, he cannot sing on key. Every song ends with him screeeeeching. I admit that I got into the Kimberly C hate at first. She's grown on me, maybe because she wants to marry her truck ;) She did her best tonight. I wish Corey could get kicked out but I fear it will be Julia. I wouldn't cry if carmen left either.

Another reality show I saw recently was the behind the scenes of Cirque du soleil, that was very educational. It's more than just a reality show, much more like a documentary.

speaking of *idol* i LOVE trenyce! didnt even think about her until the wild card ceremony. i adore ruben and i still want FRENCHIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! kimberly c drives a truck and loves melissa ethridge... :hmm ... dont really care for her style though. nor julia. she's been given chance after chance and keeps blowing it. i like carmen and the other kimberly is awesome! never liked cory. i also think Clay is a total broadway star not a pop singer. I'd watch him in *rent* any day. lol... didn't watch it tonight though cause i went to a real concert :P

as for other reality tv, chat ho's know i was obsessed with celebrity mole there for a while. frikin' hilarious that cathy.

My dorm floor and I got really into "watching" Joe Millionaire, though that was more for the entertainment value of seeing every episode top the last one in sheer stupidity and goofy ratings stunts... I was really bummed that it had a happy ending (or as happy as this group could get), since our entertainment was mostly based on laughing about what would happen when he finally realized what gold-diggers the girls were... Therefore, I say "Long live reality TV," as long as it's dumb in an amusing way! --Nora

Ooh, I like American Idol too. Although, I'm sad that the Atlanta representative wasn't very good. I always like Ruben, I think he'll probably win. I thought the country guy did good, he was like the only one who actually sang a country song on the country rock night. I agree that Corey is the worst singer on there right now, it really amazes me how the judges(other than Simon usually) like him. I think it's gotta be between him and Julia for the next to be kicked off.

I like Clay. :)

I also was all about Celebrity Mole. The only reason I watched was to see Kathy Griffin, she was hilarious. I thought it would have been great had she been the mole, but she won the game and that was even better. :D

SLAYER747 - I adore the osbournes as well, Ozzy is a god, lol

As for kelly, she cracks me up, and sharon is strong and keeps them all together.

I never miss it.

Now see, I like Clay for the sole reason that he sounds like a showtune no matter what he's singing. I'm a broadway freak, I'll admit it.

And I had this really creepy dream that Carmen and Julia lost and were forced to make out. Normally that doesn't sound creepy, but it was.

My little sister has a crush on Josh, the marine in a cowboy hat.

It actually is a documentary being marketed as a "reality" show. The funny thing about "reality" shows is that they manipulate reality to make it in their view more entertaining. The Fire Within is brilliant and I highly recommend it. It is starting its reruns on Monday on Bravo. Catch it.

I'm really into The Salon at the moment. Channel 4, 6pm. Unfortunately it's finishing soon. Good drama though.

Sonia's the best thing about it. She's like some kind of demented wannabe on speed. The desperation, the craving for fame - it's all there in its hideous glory, making her look like a right tit.

You gotta love that. It's what reality shows are all about :)

Yeah, nicky, I think I could "accept" Gina G too. Several times. Ahem.

The thing about Sonia is that she was a "chart topper". Unlike toast toppers which were actually tasty but looked like baby sick...

Anyway, sorry. Sonia. I remember that first performance she did with the whole fist clenching and shaking around. I mean yeah, great moves but it doesn't make you a better singer, love. Plus she's a Scouser. Nuff said.

Does anyone remember when Dawn French did that Star Test impression of Sonia? Totally hilarious. "The Mersey!" :lol

I'm predicting that Elkie Brooks will be the next to go. Pearl might well be a singer, but Elkie shouldn't go singing Motown in her advanced years...

American Idol has saved my Tuesday nights :wink

I love Clay, and yes I love Broadway. He just looks so natural up there.

Ruben's my second.

I hate, hate, hate Carmen's voice. Holy vibrato. Get some breath control please. I know she's only 17 or something but please.

And don't get me started on Corey..hopefully he will get the boot tonight

Ok, I loved Julia, though I am not surprised she got cut. Kimberly C looked like Tammy Faye Baker, not sure I bought all the tears. She's a good actress that's for sure. I am so not down with Corey, he needs to go soon. I was not happy with the songs tonight :|

ANd last night I forgot to mention that, but that girl who does Whitney on Mad TV was in the audience , she really liked ricky!

My floor did the exact same thing with Joe Millionaire. We watched it and made fun of it every week, it was great. It was like a live version of Television Without Pity. Like when Melissa said she wanted to bathe children in Africa because she's a mercenary. Wow. :rofl However, I was kind of hoping the ending would be that Evan was really gay and that he chose Paul. That would have amused me.

I have to hang my head in shame, given the present political climate......

I really liked the testosterone charged 'Are you tough enough for the SAS?'

Take 24 civilians, allbeit extremely fit types. Drop them into the Borneo jungle [40C and 95%humidity]. Make them do lots of unpleasent army-type things like running up and down ridges with 40kg packs on. you get the drift.

The last series was done in the scottish highlands and was won by a pretty tough Glaswegian, but a 100lb woman made it to the last 4 and engendered the respect of the pretty hard bitten SAS men.

This time the atrition rate was such that the producers feared that no-one would stay the course, so it was trimmed by a few days. Of the four that made it to the final day 2 were women.

The criteria for winning the accolade 'are you tough enough?' was instilled in the question given to the SAS monitoring team 'who of the four would you want on your team if you were a man down?'

They voted for a mother from yorkshire, for being consistently positive and mentally strong throughout the selection process.

Whether any women will ever make it into the SAS in a mixed team is, of course, another matter.

If you call BBC Choice obscure, then yes.

That program was hilarious. Not sure if it was because of the weird people she met or her deadpan humour. As soon as you heard her sigh 'oh dear' on the voice over, you knew things were going to go from bad to worse.

Oh and she was on some show with the lovely Davina too, where she was kind of the roving reporter.

So yes, yet another yay for Anna!

I'd like your respect but I'd rather keep mine
