LAX

Postby urnofosiris » Sat Oct 09, 2004 3:05 am

It may be a bit premature to start a thread for a show that is only 4 eps into his first season, but what the hell. If it crashes and burns (har har) so can this thread.

I decided to download this show (it´s on NBC) because I have this odd fascination with planes and airports. I have flown a grand total of 5 times now and each and every time there is this nagging uncomfortable feeling before I fly and during. I never have that feeling when I get on a train. There is something about going up in the sky and not being attached to anything that makes me uncomfortable. It does not help that I watch National Geographic "seconds from disaster" and other plane crash documentaries. Still at the same time I do find flying enjoyable and exciting.

Anyway, my fascination with planes made me download the show and I must say I like it. I have no idea how accurately it describes the goings on at airports behind the scenes of the public. The last episode where they had this passenger plane which had all it´s communication and instruments fried being guided in by this old DC3 airplane with that equally old pilot seemed a wee bit far fetched, but then I could not even believe there would be fog in LA. Smog yes, but fog? Has there ever been fog in LA?

I like this show, it has catchy credits, Heather Locklear is as yummie as she was like 20 years ago on Dynasty. She does not seem to age and her character kicks ass (she is a producer too), much more interesting than Mr. Preppy Blair Underwear. The psycho pill popping boozing cop is annoying, but other than that most characters I´ve seen so far are interesting. I especially like the two big black women.

So anyone else watching this and enjoying or hating it?

Haven't seen the show, Garfield, but I'm from L.A. and yes, there can be fog! Especially on cooler mornings or evenings. And LAX is located just a couple of miles from the beach. There's even a U.S. Coast Guard Air Station at LAX (I wonder if that'll be worked into a plot on the show). In fact, it was pretty foggy the past couple of nights, even away from the beach and closer to downtown. I suppose if L.A. were farther from the ocean, the smog would be worse.

Hee, thanks, I was in LA last year and it was so damn dry and hot that I could not imagine anything as moist as a fog.

We have fog dork! You just didn't come during our fog season. We even get it away from the coast. I love it when the traffic helicopters get grounded due to fog! Oh and to be on topic, I haven't watched the show yet.

Well, this definitely sounds like an interesting show. Trying to download it as we "speak". A little research also taught me that this first episode was written by none other than Jill Blotevogel! You can't go wrong with a name like that :p

I have many skills....

You have got to be kidding. Yesterday I was telling xita about some weird last names we have in the Netherlands. Maybe I really should start a thread for wacky names. "Blotevogel" is Dutch for "naked bird" in case anyone was wondering.

Heh, well any show that shows off Heather Locklear's best *ahem* assets is well worth it. Thankfully, this show doesn't make any claims other than to be shamelessly entertaining, which it is. Pitting two of the industry's sexiest starts against each other and then playing off their previous affair? Only in LA, baby, and they play it up. Sure, Heather Locklear tries to pull on the heart strings with their last few eps. But what did you expect? She's from Melrose Place! *cackle* Talk about drama. So....I love it and tape it. It's just too amusing and entertaining not to.

I know Blair Underwood is a handsome dude, but damn, his character annoys me. For some reason his TV characters almost always do, whereas I love his movie roles. Anyway, there have been a two episodes so far that bored and annoyed me, but for the most part I am vastly entertained by this show. I am curious to know whether any of the things we see going on there are related to reality or whether the people who work at LAX are rolling over the floor laughing, like sometimes I do when I see certain medical shows. Oh and Charisma Carpenter was looking great, I hardly recognized her. Loved her "and you´re so blond" comment. I hope we´ll see more of her (not in a naughty way).

I have to admit, I was shocked as hell to see Charisma without her Queen C persona (can I just say I missed her bitchery? :lol ) Roger is a little annoying mostly b/c the man just can't decide what he really wants: his hottie wife and their bratty kid or some seriously steamy lovin' from Harley? I know what I would choose :eyebrow His gambling habits that they've worked into the storyline tend to be too sporadic for me to take seriously. His TV roles often tend to be a bit weak but I loved him as the psycho in that one movie with Sean Connery.

I'm sure the LAX people are laughing their asses off but then again, I bet LAX is seriously toned down in places for some of the other stuff that really goes on. I mean, it's LA fer cryin' out loud. I bet all sorts of weird shit goes on in that airport :crazy

Ah that was exactly the movie I was thinking about. He had me going for quite a while in that one. Roger annoys me because he comes across as such an egomaniac. I am sure he believes he is really the man to run that airport, but when it comes to a good combination of praticality, heart and balls, Harley is it. That episode with that guy that was there to inspect the airport really showed the difference between the two of them.

I checked this show out last night since you enjoy it G, and altho I only managed to see the last half hour it was ok. How can you not appreciate seeing Heather Locklear and her um, acting abilities. :) I can't stand Blair Underwood though, so that could be a problem. They did surprise me a bit with the indentity of that last plane that they opened a ramp for, I was sure it going to be one of the Children's Wish flights to Disneyland or something. Instead they made it a planeload of returning vets including walking wounded. I'll try it again soon and maybe post again, so perhaps your thread will live long and prosper.

Bleh bleh bleh. I really really really could have done without those flashbacks and Harley pining after Roger who gambles away his family´s money and then dares to ask his wife "why do you want to hurt me like this" once she finally kicked his useless cheating selfish winy ass to the curb. Other than that I enjoyed the episode.

It's weird though b/c Roger did the typical "Well you cheated on me first so I guess it's ok for me to do it back to you." thing...which is annoying the logic is thin at best. I have yet to figure out why Harley is so damned attracted to him...seriously. And Eddie kind of got on my nerves this ep (along with the kid who just would not shut his gob X() Although I agree they work well together, enough already with the attraction story line. *bleh* I love Heather but she'd been with Melrose Place FAR too long...it's rubbed off on her, methinks. Why can't the former Ms. Souter (from Boston Public have some real lines instead of the whiny bitch she keeps playing here? The only thing that has kept me watching so far is that LAX has really made no promises...it entertains and has lots of eye candy. Occasionally a good story comes through but it's not very deep and doesn't pretend to be.

Oh yeah, Eddie bugged me too. I am not sure whether I was supposed to feel sorry for him, but I definitely did not. He should get a haircut already. I think the show focuses too much on Harley and Roger together (I can stand Roger solo to a degree, but NOT with Harley) and the Aussie guy. There are a few other people in the credits that we hardly ever see or know anything about. This episode we did not see that customs/security officer with the dog at all. We have barely seen her, but I like her. I wish she would get more screentime, anything that takes the attention away from Roger and his baffling relationship with Harley. I will keep watching because the things that bug me don´t bug me enough to stop and the things I like outweigh the bugs.

LMAO! Are you SURE that last sentence makes sense? Seriously though I get your drift. I noticed quite a few things they haven't done:

a) Tell us how Harley got to be so close to Eddie

b) What happened to Female Security guard with dog?

c) Give us some funny bits with the two Weather Girls security chicks (I love them! They rock!)

d) Show us how Harley came to be qualified for her job (we already know about Roger's military pilot and engineering background after the Fog ep.)

Things like that.

Well I know that bugs are creepy crawlies and that I gave two reasons why I keep watching when one would have been enough, but I thought it sounded snappy like that if I do say so myself. :smug

Like I said in my first post I also love those two security women. They are built to last, bless them, and very funny and I would love to see them get more screentime. I think the show will die a quick death if it keeps dancing around Harley and Roger lusting for each other. Harley is a smart, no nonsense, take charge woman. She should be able to manage for one episode without the Ally McSqueal ´must have a pretty man to be happy and fulfilled´ undertone.

From Yahoo...

Quote:
NBC Says No More to 'LAX'

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - NBC has officially grounded its low-rated freshman drama "LAX" by opting not to pick up additional episodes of the show, which stars Heather Locklear and Blair Underwood as airport executives.

The original 13-episode order for "LAX" will be completed. Ten of them already have aired with no immediate plans for the remaining three. "LAX," which most recently aired in the Wednesday 8 p.m. time slot, is being pre-empted the next three weeks for previously scheduled specials.

Oh darn, it´s a good thing I did not get too attached. It´s shame though, I think this show had a lot of potential stories. I don´t recall there ever having been an airport show before, well other than the many docu-reality shows about airlines and airports.
