Bridget Jones: The Edge Of Reason

Postby LosingAllHope » Mon Nov 08, 2004 4:52 pm

I did a search for this, and couldn't find anything, so I thought I'd start a thread.

Ok, first off, I was forced to sit through this (it isn't my thing at all) so if you're a a fan, take what I say with a pinch of salt. Hmm, the main gist of the film is that, Bridget gets jealous of Rebecca, one of Mark Darcy's (her boyfriend) co-workers, they seperate for a bit...Hugh Grant comes in, and tries to seduce her...she declines, gets chucked in a Thai prison for smuggling drugs (:wtf )..blah, blah...Darcy gets her out, she apologises, he proposes, they all live happily ever after.

Yeah, I was totally bored until Rebecca turned out to have a crush on Bridget, and kissed her...and after that I went back to being bored. It uses the same jokes from the first one, but lacks a plot.

But I guess you know what you're getting when you pay for your ticket. The kiss is the only positive about the whole thing, so, um...go for that.

How I don't know what I should do, with my hands when I talk to you...How you don't know where you should look, so you look at my hands...

It premiered in Amsterdam yesterday and they made a big hoopla out of it because the three main stars where there, so basically everyone who is world famous in the Netherlands showed up. It was rather amusing and adorable to have one of the Dutch actresses there pull her digital camera out of her little purse and hear her say that it was her mission that night to get her pic taken with Hugh Grant like a regular tourist.

Anyway, I have not seen the first part, but they showed clips from that one and this sequel and I think I would actually enjoy these movies, so I plan to get the DVD of the first one. Not sure whether I will go to the cinema for the second or wait for the DVD to come out.

Edit: well I saw the first part yesterday. I did enjoy it, it is a nice fluffy movie. I loved Renee Zellweger. I was wondering if there are any connoisseurs here who know whether the Pride and Prejudice similarities were done on purpose or whether they are strictly coincidental.

For example: Mr. Darcy/Mark Darcy (both look at lot like Colin Firth) versus his old enemy Mr. Wickham/Daniel Cleaver who is also wooing Eliza Bennet/Bridget Jones.

The not so nice woman Natasha who is after Mark Darcy resembles the not so nice Ms. Bingley who is after Mr Darcy and the list goes on.

I love Bridget Jones, it's just so funny and witty and the humour is very dry but very good. I loved the first one and Helen Fielding is a genius. The way she writes has such structure and fluidity and that comes forward in the film. Can't wait to see what the sequel has to offer.

The book was much funnier than the movie (I liked the overall style and the daily cigarette/calorie/alcohol count.)

I haven't read the sequel so I'm not going to watch it either. (I make a point of not watching the film adaption of a book unless I've read the book first. It's a thing.)

Hee, I am the other way around. If given the choice prefer to watch the movie first. When I have read a book that I like I have a hard time accepting the changes that get made in a movie. It helps me to enjoy both more if there are a few years between reading a book and watching the movie and vice versa. The details of one or the other get blurry which helps prevent my comparing everything. The movie usually is the loser when I do that.

Oooooooh......just saw the film....hehehe........it was sooo funny! I loved it! One of my favourite bits were when she went skiing and she was trying to get down the slope.....didn't quite work out too well.....ooooh and the magic mushroom bit.......classic! And i soooo knew the end bit once she answered the day and spoke about who she really loved. Gotta say, Bridget really seemed to be enjoying the kiss!

Rebecca was YUMMY! but the kiss wasn't anything to write home about I didn't like the first movie and was bribed with a bag of M&M's to go see the sequal tonight and I was surprised because I liked it. Renee is full of comedy value with that gold dress she can't walk in I would recommend it for a bit of lighthearted fun.

Jo: I don't know....

Quoting myself just to show how brilliant I am.

I watched the first part again yesterday. I liked it better the second time around oddly enough. Anyway, I watched the extras too this time and there was the author telling us she stole the plot from Pride and Prejudice assuming Jane Austen would not mind and she is dead anyway so what the heck. She even wrote Mark Darcy around Colin Firth´s portrayal of Mr. Darcy. Derrrr. Well at least I was not imagining things.
