Two and a Half Men

Postby Hemiola » Tue Nov 25, 2003 4:03 pm

Has anyone here been watching this?

I ask because it seems to be following in the footsteps of "Friends" by having Allen's (the Jon Cryer character) ex-wife come out as a lesbian. Much was made of this on last night's Thanksgiving episode.

It should also be noted that the exceptionally luscious Melanie Lynskey (of "Heavenly Creatures" fame) is also featured in the cast.

Comments?

I've seen like one and a half shows of this.

The one that got my attention was the one where Charlie's ex-girlfriend comes back into town as a man. "An Old Flame With a New Wick"

I'd seen it advertised and happened to catch the last 15 minutes of that one. I was a little surprised when it didn't annoy the hell out of me.

The ex-wife doesn't seem to be on much, is she still a lesbian?

I am curious to know who that 'half man' in the title applies to and is that FtM character a recurring one or a one timer?

Heh, the half part is the Jon Cryer character's son. He's 10 or something.

It's on Mondays at 8:30, I think, central time.

The FtM was a one timer. I think he ended up dating the mother (Holland Taylor), too. He was played by Chris O'Donnell.

Here's the IMDB details www.imdb.com/title/tt0369179/maindetails .

Yeah, I just watched the FTM ep also (the plot could have been worse). I found the show pretty excruciating, tell the truth: I'm really not a sitcom fan, though.

GG Other than animation (Simpsons, King of the Hill, Futurama, South Park), I don't think I've regularly watched a sitcom since Cybil! :rolleyes Out

2 1/2 Men

The show is very cute and has potential. Of the new sitcoms this year it is probably the best. Jon Cryer is my all-time favorite actor (Ducky!!!!) and I'm glad he finaly has a successful sitcom. Before this he was known as the king of failed sitcoms. If anyone else enjoys him on the show be sure to rent Went To Coney Island On A Mission From God Be Back By Five. Not only did he star in it, he wrote it! Hiding Out , Plan B and No Small Affair are good ones as well.

Lucy kicked ass. I love her. :heart She really needs her own show again.

Somehow, seeing two brothers pretend to be gay partners wasn't as disturbing as it should have been.

. . . wasn't so disturbing, perhaps, because one of those brothers ("playing" gay) was Jon Cryer? :p (At least, he seems to get it---sort of ala Tony Randall? Maybe I need to move this over to the Rumor Thread! :lol )

Oh yeah: Lucy is Oh So Hot. :drool (I know she wants to do a TV series again, a comedy. Y'all know what I would prefer, though! *cough*XWPMajorMotionPicture*cough*)

However, inasmuch as "I love Lucy" almost as much as life itself---and that I found the 2 and a Half ep fairly amusing---I'm still rather dissappointed that she mouthed (via her character "Pamela") that line (which I know she doesn't believe) "lesbians want only one thing, and will lie, worse than straight men do, to get it" :spin

GG I just would have hoped that LL had objected "for a cheap laugh, I'm not dissing lesbians the same way my character disses straight men and straight women, when lesbians DON'T HAVE EQUAL RIGHTS the same as straight men and straight women!" But she did say the line, and---fully recognizing that she has been more gay/lesbian-positive and actively queer-supportive than just about any other actor in H'wood :kiss ---I'm just personally disappointed that she did. :sigh Out
