Due to Dr G's request the ot will commence with good ole trek, this is a general trek thread!

So how many here think Jadzia Dax is pretty fine? :)

I liked Jadzia and Ezri both. :)

Ah, DS9. The best of all the Treks, if you ask me. Or at least the best of the Berman era. It was the only format so far where they told a different kind of story. It seems like a starship story is a starship story is a starship story, whether it's the Enterprise-D, Voyager or the Enterprise of the past.

It might surprise some of you, but I am a huge Trek geek!

I enjoy all Treks. I found the episodes of TNG to be some of the best and TOS to be the most fun, but DS9 will allways be one of my faves.

My biggest problem with DS9 was that it more times than not failed to live up to expectations. Granted, when it was good it was the best. "Duet" and "The Vistitor" are still two of the best Trek episodes around (much better than "The Inner Light").

Of course if you want to see a main character go evil and come back in a believable way I point you towards "Best of Both Worlds" and "Descent" of the TNG era.

I know I'll more to say on this in the days ahead.

Another Trek geek checking in (heck, my handle is an obscure Trek character).

I also have a very soft spot for DS9, though I also loved TNG. Voyager was so up-and-down that I can't say I'm all that attached to it; though the early Seven of Nine material, for example, was very well done.

Enterprise I'm finding more solid than Voyager, but still with downright bland storytelling in places. I don't watch much TV, however, so it's easy to give them an hour a week and see how it goes.

For all Trek geeks who haven't yet done so, I urge you to check out Capt. Murdock's Equilibration over on Pens. a wonderful meld of the Trek universe with W/T goodness.

DS9 is my favorite also. The local Fox affiliate just this week aired "The Way of the Warrior I and II," which I hadn't seen before. I found the parallels to current events very interesting.

Jadzia Dax is pretty fine, but methinks Kira could give her a run for her money.

Ah yes, good ol' Terry Farrell.

Formerly the biggest name celebrity hailing from my hometown of Cedar Rapids, IA before somebody named Frodo Baggins eclipsed her a.k.a. Elijah Wood.

As for DS9 itself, and the rest of the Rick Berman era, it's nice to have a franchise where all of the ex-cast members of "Benson" can find steady work.:sleep

I another Trek fan. Personally I think DS9 is the best version. It became particularly good when they started copying Babylon 5 (though without the stinky dialogue, thank goodness)

I'm enjoying Enterprise, much more than Voyager, even the quality is still rather uneven. One thing I like in particular is the fact they keep getting caught out by descisions they made in earlier episodes.

I am getting fed up with the tendency to reuse old story lines. They did a lot in Voyager and have started doing it in Enterprise. I mean all this recycling might be enviromentaly friendly but it doesn't make for a good program.

It's been quite a few years since I first tuned into Star Trek, quite by accident and it happened to be the very first episode of TNG on the BBC. I got hooked pretty quickly. I caught up on Trek history thanks to the movies and I thoroughly enjoyed it. When I heard about DS9 I was almost determined to not like it. It felt like a rip off. The first ep starting with the end of the Borg War and Kira having the exact same hairdo as ensign Ro, bleh, it felt like it was copying TNG successes. That only lasted for one ep though, as soon as the Enterprise whooshed away, Kira went out and got herself a glorious new hairdo and I continued to watch, but I did not get truly hooked until I read about Odo having feelings for Kira in a magazine. That piqued my interest. Nothing gets me into a show like a good ship. I am began rooting for them, I truly took notice of the wonderful Kira, and I adored Odo as well.

I also really began to appreciate the complexity of DS9 more. I love it that they built up an entire history and mythology, the characters and the recurring characters really became fleshed out much better than in the TNG I think. On TNG they would fly by planets and every once in a while a crew member would get the obligatory "I got laid" episode. Sure Deanna and Riker (*hacks*), Picard and Beverly Crusher were doing the mating dance for 7 seasons, but without ever really hooking up, I mean come on. At least on DS9 people managed to get into lasting relationships with people they knew, not fly by aliens. There is so much that appeals to me in DS9, I could go on for a while, I did go out on the internet in my KO shippy days to get spoilers and read fic, but I never saw a discussion forum till I found the Kitten. Lucky me. I hate to think I might have got stuck out there instead of ending up here. :)

Anyway, I am not trying to diss TNG, but there are a few elements about that show that annoyed me, just like there are a few about DS9 that annoy me, but on the whole I love DS9 the best (when talking about ST that is, it goes without saying that I would ritually burn all my DS9 tapes for one more minute of WT smoochies).

I love TNG, but I've never really seen DS9 at all. It never seems to be on when I can watch it.

But listening to all the DS9-love in the room, I'm going to make the effort to tape it next time I see it's on :)

I used to just watch TNG and DS9 if they happened to be on, but when Voyager started I used to make a special effort to see the episodes. Katharyn Janeway was just sooo cool. I also liked B'Elanna Torres, and can't believe they paired her off with Tom Bloody Paris!

Another trek fan here I'm not afraid to say, have been for years. I like to watch all the series but always take them with a pinch of salt and not get worked up about continuity so much (although it can be annoying) and watch them just for the whole premise.

I guess I'll stand up and be counted as a trek fan, I loved TNG and was also really into Voyager, I know it was kinda hit and miss but as I watched it on BBC2 I only tended to see the good episodes becasue I would lose track of when it was on because of the need to show snooker. ;)

My favourite characters are the Borg and Nelix. Never really got into DS9 but by all counts that was no real loss. :rolleyes

Not by some of the counts in this thread. I never go into Voyager, though unlike with DS9 I was determined to like it. I failed, heh, ironic considering I was determined to not like DS9 and it turned out to be one of my all time favourite tv shows. Ah well, to each his own.

Oooooh, Star Trek. I love me some TNG!! (Used to have the hots for Wesley Crusher. Shhh, don't tell anyone.) Yeah, it can be corny at times, but I really grew to care for the characters, much like The Show That Will Not Be Named.

Everyone keeps telling me that DS9 is excellent. I watched a couple episodes but couldn't really get into it. It seems like one of those shows where the backstory is fairly involved, and you have to watch from the beginning in order to understand what's going on (again, much like The Unnamed Show). Plus, I got into TNG by catching the daily reruns, but DS9 was hardly ever on the air - or if it was, I couldn't find it.

Okay, I know some of you have seen the recent ST movies. The last one I saw was Resurrection. There are two more afterwards, right? Nemesis and ... uh ... something else. Are they worth the price of a 5-day rental?

I think you mean Insurrection, as there isn't any Star Trek film called Ressurection. There's only one after it, which is Nemesis which I liked, but a lot of people didn't.

Anyway, for no real reason, here's the full list of StarTrek films

Another Trek fan here. Got hooked from the first sighting of Deanna Troi with those beautiful black eyes! DS9 was Major Kira but when Voyager came along that was it! Kathryn Janeway, I would follow her through an asteroid field anywhere! The set of DS9 dvds has just started to be released here in the UK, I am waiting for the Voyager ones to be released.

Marina Siritis is going to make an appearence at the Birmingham NEC memorabilia fair this April. I'd love to see her, my sweetie has already had the honour of sharing a table with her at a convention meal years ago. Sad thing with the fairs though, they take away too much money from wallets!!

"Enterprise" is on in an hour here on Sky 1, it's not the best of the series, but T'Pol makes it watchable. It's funny how there has been no main gay character written in yet there are so many that could easily take the role on! Of the ladies, Tasha Yar in TNG, Kira and Jadzia in DS9, (although the alternate universe Intendant Kira and Ezri were very obviously gay and the alternate Leeta in one episode!) Janeway/B'Elanna/7 of 9 in Voyager and T'Pol just seems to give Hoshi 'that' look! I love Star Trek but have no interest whatsoever in the original series.

I remember back when "First Contact" came out I was reading an article in Starlog (i believe, it has been a while) that Lt. Hawk was supposed to have been gay.

The actor even said he would have played the character that way cause "this is Trek" (I believe he said) "they don't have those old prejudices."

He added though that it was probably good they didn't given what happened to Hawk.

If I can find it, I'll repost it.

I haven't seen a lot of any of the Treks, but DS9 was my favorite too; I loved the idea of longer storylines, but they'd forget about them for a stupid episode like the human/vulcan baseball rivalry one and I'd stop watching only to find I'd missed too much to keep up with the story.

Well the Data we know is dead but hey you still got the other Data, he is just like the early Data we knew. So the next movie still got a Data and that is more than good. Can´t image to watch a Star Trek movie where a charakter is missing. I´m still hoping that Troi and Riker will come back on the Enterprise. :pray

Can´t wait to get the DVD:heart

They kill Data:( ? Oh, well, I'm still waiting to get a DVD player to see it...

DS9 was great, probably the best. I think it was the only Trek to have an Oscar winning actress play a character in a main role...who get killed in the final few eps by a crazy Cardasian!

Voyager was like a soap opera set in space, but it had its fun moments.

And as for TNG...it was great too. Every girl I knew(yes, including me) had a crush on Wesley Crusher...and everyone loved Leforge because he was on Reading Rainbow! Ahhh, kids in the late 80's and early 90's...such sci-fi geeks, but that's good.

Enterprise is fun, and it has some interesting points to it. It's kind of a less cheesy, better acted, better written, better-effects TOS. But the TOS cheese tastes good, and Porthos's obsession with cheese doest make up for the lack of cheese!(okay, groaner joke-almost-pun, I know :) )

Brent Spiner has been saying for years that he didn't want to play Data forever. He didn't think it would be realistic for him to play a character that's not supposed to age - since he's human and does age, eventually it would look ridiculous. I heard him say that at a convention back in 1996 or 1997.

I tought that they killed Data and made Troi and Riker go on another ship as a symbol of the "end" of the Enterprise we know.. Maybe I was wrong.

There's talk of another movie. I think there will always be talk of another movie. But instead of doing another all-TNG story, Rick Berman has been talking about doing something with a mix of cast members from TNG, DS9 and Voyager. It could be fabulous - or it could be a disaster. Time will tell.
