Gilmore Girls

Postby BytrSuite » Sun Apr 13, 2003 4:14 pm

I love this show, I've watched it since the beginning and adored the characters right from the start. The writing is good and the delivery is fast and funny. Paris is my favorite character, she's so intense and just generally amuses the heck out of me while making me feel for her. Lorelai's character gets on my nerves sometimes but Lauren Graham is just so wonderful to watch that I get over it. Rory is nice too but she's been bugging me lately. Mostly I just like to watch her interact with Paris.

This show is almost done with it's third season and is doing pretty well in the ratings and is definitely coming back for a fourth season.

If you haven't seen it you really should watch it sometime. Mother and daughter and a whole town full of quirky characters. The reruns of older seasons have been airing on the WB on Sundays and the current season is Tuesday at 7pm Central.

There's a new ep this coming Tuesday. Yay!

This site, Gilmore-Girls.net is amazing. Has screen caps, and ep guides, cast lists and tons of other stuff, it's a really good place to catch up if you're behind.

I have to agree with you there! GG is one of my most favourite shows. Tuesdays at 8...phone is turned off, door is ignored and my butt is firmly planted on the couch watching GG.

Paris cracks me up...just so intense...sort of how I was during high school. I love Lane's character...just wish she had more to do, although, her characters had more screen time this year than the last two combined. And her mom?! Reminds me of growing up with my uber-religious mother.

I can't wait...6 weeks of new GG eps in a row.

Great show. It's difficult to pick a favorite character, but Paris is definitely in the running. I wish she had more screen time. I used to love Raury, but her crush on followed by her relationship with Jess has turned me off. I hope Paris and Raury attend the same university so Raury can get together with Paris instead. (-;

We had another GG's thread somewhere, but this one will do just as well.

Ah, Gilmore Girls, how I've missed you! This week's episode was another great example of how much better a viewing choice this show is compared to that other show that's on at 8pm on Tuesdays.

One thing I really liked was watching "take charge Lorelai" after the fire at the inn. It's a side of her that we don't get to see as often.

I also loved the scene at the end where Rory walks into her room and finds all the Yale stuff on the walls. This episode did a great job of resolving the college-choice story arc, with everyone and their dog assuming Rory would pick Harvard and Rory feeling like she had to pick Harvard so she wouldn't let everyone down. And they even manage to fit Kirk's wacky idea of the week in with the "rory's going to yale!" t-shirt.

Only five more episodes left in the season! :sob But fortunately they'll be back next year, unlike a certain other show that's on at 8pm on Tuesdays. :party

Stellar episode. I loved the scene with Lorelai telling Luke about her dream in a nice flirty way with a nod to IT Happened One Night ,and the next scene was Luke snoring. Romance and reality. Jess wasn't so annoying ,and the whole Wal-Mart scene actually made me think the writers understand something about everyday crappy jobs, unlike that other Tuesday show. Paris confined to her bed watching soap operas and having a meltdown over her Harvard rejection rocked. Isn't it nice to watch a show where they assume you can read , hence all the Edgar Allan Poe jokes. 8 p.m.Tuesday is a good night for television... on the WB.

Ah yes, the Poe jokes. I liked Lorelai trying to tell Poe jokes at the front desk, and the one couple telling her, "It's just a hobby! We're not Trekkies!" :lol

Gilmore Girls 4/22

Postby Webberific » Thu Apr 24, 2003 1:23 am

What, already Thursday and nobody's mentioned this week's new episode?

I'm curious what everyone's reaction is, especially the tiff going on between Michel and Tobin (it was great to see Bruce McCullough from Kids in the Hall). We never did see what Michel bought (I'm guessing) to counter Tobin's Joe Strummer jacket gift. What did you think of Tobin? I think he could be loveable, but I'm still pondering whether the character came on (so to speak) too strong, even for this show, what with the Martha Stewart references, pampering Lorelai, etc. (and how does a night manager make enough money to get a gift like that for Lorelai? I had the feeling that it was originally not for her, and he only gave it to her to offset Michel's book). I did love the coffee scented candle though! But anyway, that may have been the gayest hour of Gilmore Girls, not forgetting that Lorelai made that lesbian comment in the teaser.

On the whole though, I wished we'd seen more about Lorelai's birthday. I was a little disappointed that we didn't get to see the party up close... The Jess/Luke/Nicole/Nicole's parents thing went on way too long, IMO... and the pizza bit could have been cut back a little too, to make room for other b-day related possibilities (it was great seeing Fran the cupcake lady again!). :)

We still didn't find out where Paris is going to school. Does she even know that Rory decided against going to Harvard?

BTW, Jared Padalecki was in the opening credits, but I'm pretty sure Dean wasn't in the episode...or was he? :confused

I saw parts of this ep. I have never liked Jess because I do not find "bad boys" attractive or interesting at all. I was so glad Dean gave him a good pounding, and I really hope this ends the Rory/Jess relationship. (JMO)

I absolutely LOVE this show. I've also watched it since the beginning. I love the characters... but some of my favs are Michele and Suki. Very funny!!!

My fav with Suki was the very first ep, when everyone in the kitchen was trying to keep her from hurting herself. :rofl

I don't know why they put Paris in the credits when she's only on there for like a minute. Makes me all happy to see that she's going to be in the episode and then it's some tiny part like that. Paris needs a lot more airtime. They drive me nuts when they just drop the little story line points they introduce from time to time for her.

Poor Lane, I wonder if we will get to see the results of her drunken phone call to her mother.

Jess is an idiot. I just don't like him.

You know I never thought I would praise a fight scene on GG but the whole Dean -Jess thing was well done. Go Dean. I'm sure the one and a half beers Lane downed will have major repercussions with Mrs. Kim.The band stuff is too funny.

Yeah, the Lorelai/Max stuff fell flat for me, and I didn't like Paris's "contractual obligation" appearance, but the band stuff and the fight definitely made up for it.

Jess is finally getting his - I'm so happy! Nothing against the actor, but his character drives me up the wall. Sometimes it's so bad, I mute the volume when he's going through one of his tantrums.

Poor Rory - a lot of stuff coming at her at once - Dean engaged, Jess leaving, graduation, maybe no prom.

And I agree, they really need to work Paris into the show more. Maybe she'll be on more once graduation and the end of the season comes. Here's hoping

When in the heck do we find out where Paris is going to college? This show is so annoying sometimes.

I thought this ep was pretty good aside from the lack of Paris. Hee, the dude from Silk Stalkings is Jess' father. The thing that really bugged me is the crap Lorelai and Sookie were pulling at Fran's funeral. That was complete BS, but sadly, not really too much out of character for Lorelai.

Next week looks like the spin off ep.

And hee, "You look great dead." I have to pull out some of my tapes now to get a good Paris fix.

Unfortunately, I do not like Paris as much as some of you here. She gets on my nerves.

I'm also glad to see Jess experiencing some consequences, though I'm less than enthused to see the spinoff pilot episode as the season finale next. But they'll have to tell us about college, right? Or will Rory just run into Paris at Yale unexpectedly?

Re: Gilmore Girls

The spin-off ep is not the season finale. There's one more episode after that, which is mostly about Rory's graduation, although some other plotlines get moved along as well.

There was so much to love about last night's episode. So many triggers got pulled, and all without anyone dying or turning evil. I loved the long no-dialogue scene where Rory and Jess are trying to decide whether or not to talk to each other as Luke watches them. I loved the scenes between Lane and her mom and Dave. I loved the scene in the car where Rory finally explodes and tells Lorelai what's been going on. It was all good. A perfect example of why I think this is the best show on the air right now.

It was all good. I loved seeing Dave appear on Miss Kim's doorstep, all dishelved from reading the Bible cover to cover trying to figure out whether she was giving him permission to take Lane to the prom, only to find out that her quote was from Shakespeare.

Lane's another character who really makes the show for me and who I hope they find a way to include next year. I haven't seen anything about her college plans yet, other than last night's promise to go to the scary religious school which I hope she's not serious about.

For all the comic fireworks in this episode it was the more dramatic element that impressed me. I have such a crush on Dave I can't stand it. Mrs. Kim reading Shakespeare to unwind, and Lorelai calling her mother unable to admit that she misses her got to me ,I even felt sorry for Jess even though he deserved every thing that happened to him. I loved Luke's speech to Jess about work and responsibility.Paris actually got to show a little warmth for the first time in forever when she discussed the prom. .I laughed at Sookie and Lorelai even though they were running amuck at the funeral.I don't feel the need to be a spoiler ho for this show because I still trust the writers.

Re: Gilmore Girls

Postby BytrSuite » Wed May 07, 2003 6:27 pm

Oooh, I forgot to comment on the whole Dave, Lane, Mrs. Kim storyline. They finally dragged me into it with this one. Poor Lane going crazy and basically punishing herself since her mom wouldn't acknowledge it. Dave memorizing that whole list and begging not to have to repeat it. Mrs. Kim was excellent in this ep, as she usually is; loved the Shakespeare. Dave did look awful cute when he showed up the next day all mussed up from having not slept to stay up trying to find that quotation.

Jess is such a jackass, I can't have any sympathy for him, I just can't. And I don't get why they are having Dean marry this other girl. I don't really care if he's with Rory or not but damn, that seemed a bit out of nowhere.

Heh, the WB promo people still suck.

I about fell out of my chair laughing at Lane describing her Christian college. I went to a week-long basketball camp at Tennessee Temple University and it was just like that. The women and men couldn’t eat at the college diner together (they had separate hours for eating because the school didn’t want any unsupervised socializing) and the women had to put on a skirt or dress whenever they left the dorm – even to walk across the street to the gym. It was a surreal experience, so I just focused on enjoying the sights of Tennessee. Poor Lane. :D

The short scene with Lorelai and Paris was a hoot. Unclench the fists and stop staring at her boobs. hehe

Next week looks like a great finale. Our little Rory as valedictorian and maybe some developments between Luke and Lorelai. Can't wait. :)

I even liked the scenes with Jess and his father in California, but the Paris/Lorelai moment was my favorite. They really should put those two together more often. Lane's college is scary--I hope she finds a way out of that next year if not sooner. So how are they going to afford Yale without financial aid?

Re: Gilmore Girls

Postby BytrSuite » Tue May 13, 2003 9:26 pm

The Paris and Lorelai scene was too adorable. Paris needs to be around someone like Lorelai more, it'd do her good. An adult paying attention and talking to her just because, not because she's forced to. Jess still annoyed me but his dad was okay. They needed to spend less time on it though.

I loved the ending with Lorelai just beaming over Rory. That was nice.

And just because it amuses me, here is a little bit of the Lorelai Paris scene.

Quote:
P: No one is going to buy our tickets.

L: Give it time Paris.

P: We've been here an hour and have sold eight tickets.

L: Grad night is a big deal Paris, they will buy the tickets.

P: Unbutton your top.

L: What?

P: Teenage boys are controlled by one thing. Unbutton your top.

L: (Laughing) No.

P: Well, me doing it isn't going to help any.

L: Paris you need to relax. You need to stop worrying you need to stop obsessing. You need to stop looking at my boobs.

P: Fine.

P: Oh, man, even the stupid class poster table has a line.

L: Okay, Time to play "Let's distract Paris"

L: Look at me. Let’s talk.

(Talk about which college Paris wants to go to. Good advice)

(Lorelai goes to hug her. Paris cringes away.)

P: What are you doing?

L: I'm giving you a hug.

P: Why?

L: Just give into it, baby. Come on, you can do it. Atta girl

L: Unclench the fists, Paris. Unclench the fists.

L: Yeah, there we go.

(Hug.)

So cute.

Next week looks like a lot of fun. I'm betting Lorelai has to ask Emily for the money back, or to borrow more or something.

Or something. :shy

I actually thought the Jess spinoff quasi-pilot worked. I like the little girl who hides in all sorts of weird places and reads. The girlfriend character seems interesting, too.

Paris was only on briefly again, but it was much better than the "contractual obligation" scene of a couple episodes ago. Yale is still in the running for her, so maybe she'll still be on the show next year. We can hope, right?

To me, the reason Gilmore Girls is such a great show is because each individual character is written so well and becomes so memorable. Compare the minor characters like the fashion consultant ("How's Mrs. Walter Cronkite?") or the inn's night manager from a couple of episodes ago to the vast array of interchangeable and entirely forgettable minor characters who have shown up on a certain other Tuesday night show this year. There's no contest whatsoever.

I have enough faith in GG to believe that they'll do something different for Rory's school money this time around instead of returning the old dynamic between Lorelai and her mother. I don't know what it will be though.

Does anyone know what the Fearless show following GG next year is? I thought the spinoff was going to follow it but apparently not.

Fearless is based on a series of books by Francine Pascal about a young woman who was "born without the fear gene," whatever that means. It comes from Jerry Bruckheimer and stars Rachael Leigh Cook.

From what I've been reading, they haven't found a show-runner for the Gilmore Girls spinoff yet. The WB has placed an initial order for six episodes, but it's contingent upon them finding someone to be in charge. My personal suspicion, by the way, is that this is how Angel managed to get picked up for next season. :

And no, Lorelai does not put herself back into the same old dynamic with Emily...

Edited to add: You can find a website for Fearless here:
