Well.... I haven't seen many (*snif*), but I'd recommend 'Bound'...

Also, in case you're also interested in animation movies, I would recommend the 'Shoujo Kakumei Utena' movie. It's pretty cool.

If you can find them, which I don't know since they were originally cable movies, I'd look out for:

If These Walls Could Talk Part 2 (originally on HBO I think)
The Truth About Jane (Lifetime)

Both are really good.

As for other movies, I'd recommend Gia, But I'm a Cheerleader, and Better Than Chocolate.

Well, one that I like is a made-for-tv movie that airs on Lifetime T.V. called The Truth About Jane. It talks about what it's like to fall in love with a girl, and "come out" to your parents at 16 (or maybe it's 15). Don't want to give away to much, but I think some of the high-school age kittens could maybe relate.

Actually Michelle isn't that big but anyways alot of young actors/actresses share apartment with someone. I remember Jason Biggs saying he did, and I know a couple times I watch Celebritiy Homes I have seen young actors/actresses share places.

Well....

But I'm a Cheerleader - Just generally a cute funny movie.
Better Than Chocolate - Okay I admit there is some things wrong with this movie as Xita pointed out to me one time but I really enjoy it. Also I love Christina Cox, since then I have seen her in every episode of F/X: The Series and she is just so cute with her facial expressions and everything.
Lost and Delirious - Sad movie, I cried but love it, I taped it off and I'm so glad. Plus Piper and Jessica [drool], since then I have bought the movie Stardom cause Jessica Pare is in it.
GIA - I really think Jolie did a great job with her performance and I enjoyed the movie.
Foxfire - I seen it many many years ago and I really love it, Jolie is awesome. Since then I have bought the book by Joyce Carol Oates, it's a very good read and somewhat different from the movie.

Show Me Love - Showcase showed this movie a month ago and I taped it off, I love this movie sooo much. It has subtitles but it's so worth watching I tell all my friends about it. It's realistic and just an amazing movie.

Dear lord, I just read the 'Blade' review, and am still laughing. Is that guy on speed or something?And plus...'chicks stay away from this film'? Puh-lease! I happened to love the blood and gore on the first Blade almost as much as I loved Wesley's abs... (getting hormones under control now).

Interesting recs, and I'll definetly see some of them (my video club is tragic in its lack of variety). I'll add my own 'loved it!' to 'The amazing adventure of two girls in love'.When it came out I saw it twice in the same week.

I can't think of any specifically 'lesbian films' that haven't been mentionned, but I think both "Boys on the Side" and "the color Purple" are worth a look. Yes, I'm a Whoopi fan!

If you are looking for a website that caters exclusively to gay and lesbain themed films, www.Wolfevideo.com is the place to go..They have a wonderful collection of movies..I liked Whats Cooking that someone mentioned, but needed more Kyra Sedgewick and Julianna Margolis..Would have liked to have seen some steamy love scenes with those two

There is also Losing Chase, with I believe Helen Mirren and Kyra Sedgewick..Kind of bittersweet though.Its funny someone else described Everythings Relative as a lesbian Big Chill lol, thats exactly what it is..

Off topic just a bit, but it is regarding movies..Did anyone see Donnie Darko and can they explain this movie to me lol..I really liked it but just couldnt figure out what happened..Thanks..

I guess the only lesbian movie I've seen is "but i'm a cheerleader." I've seen plenty of feminist movies in french, and I'm told that there's a blistering lesbian sex scene in Mulholland Drive. Of course, there's a world of difference between lesbian sex and "girl-on-girl action." I think you know what I'm talking about.

I'd really like to see Aimee and Jaguar, but the corner video store doesn't carry anything that would be considered queer by any stretch of the imagination. In San Francisco. *scoffs at the irony*

It is great to see an overwhelming interest in lesbian flicks......



I have seen most of the ones mentioned and agree to all the comments.....

Wolfe Video has a great selectoin, although $30 or $40 per DVD is a lot of money for me. I guess it's worth it for movies like Fucking Amal which I've been looking for forever. I'm thinking about subscribing to one of those DVD rental services where you pay $20/month for all the movies you want. Does anybody have any experience with these kind of places? It seems like a good deal if you rent lots of videos. I don't know how extensive their catalog is, though.

Eye of the Beholder. I know, I know. Everybody thinks this movie is terrible. But it is not that bad. And there is an interesting lesbian subtext between Ashley Judd and Genevieve Bujold.



It isn't just a subtext. They are lovers in the original book. And the Joanna Eris character has a another female lover called Becky.



There is another movie version called Mortelle randonnee. Isabelle Adjani played the reading role.

Going through my lesbotheque again (I've got an impressive collection if I may say so myself, and it’s growing almost by the week). Anybody ever seen "Bar Girls" ? Haaaaate it! Or "Go Fish" ? ditto! But there are some really good ones around, like the unsurpassed “Desert Hearts”. Maybe the movie “Orlando” doesn’t really qualify as a lesbian movie, but there are definitely gay elements and it’s one of my favorite movies. Oh, an oldie but goldie would be: “The Killing of Sister George” I know it’s basically awful and full of cliche but always good for a laugh. Sad ending though. That’s the difference I think between the “older” lesbo-movies and the more recent ones; the latter tend to have (not always, I know) a happy ending whereas these oldies invariably show how gays/lesbians/trans/bi’s etc. should be punished for what they are. The movie “The Fox” comes to mind. I like this thread because I like, correction, I love movies and I could go on till the cows come home. Oh, and Marlene Dietrich kissing a woman full on the lips in the movie “Morocco” ....you can’t beat that! Alright, stopping now. (Garfield: I only saw your reply re ‘incredible adventures....’ today. I was transferred to prison cell block H in case you were wondering ). Really stopping now.

I just saw Kissing Jessica Stein this weekend. Which I recommend. Funny, cute, neurotically endearing. Much like the title character. If you want full on lesbian action and riding off into the sunset, perhaps not your movie. But it’s a interesting look at female friendship and self discovery. And VERY well done for a first film. I mean, as much as I loved it for its content, “Go Fish” is a perfect example of a clumsy first film… this is much more professional.

I just saw "Blow Dry" this weekend and thought that was a cute movie. Natasha Richardson was pretty good I thought!



My all time favourite is "When Night is Falling" mostly because it's such a beautiful movie. The cinematography was amazing!

Well, it is tense but not as scary scary as I'd feared. And the flouncing is pretty good. Fincher has a few nice breast cam shots in there as well. Not that I noticed. I was watching it for the acting.

The art house theatres are playing "Kissing Jessica Stein" now and I highly recommend it. There are some incredibly sexy scenes and the film keeps you laughing too. Great flick!

Okay, so it's not gay at all, but it's a great movie. Donnie Darko. It's out on DVD... but I don't know if it's rentable or not.



I saw it in theaters and bought it as soon as it came out.
