Imagine Me and You

Postby runnerbird » Tue Dec 13, 2005 7:54 am

I searched for a topic for this film, but I came up empty. This is the first time I've started a thread so I hope I'm not violating any rules here. Anyway, on to what is really important.

Image

Film Summary: Imagine you are getting married. The big day has arrived. You're walking down the aisle on your father's arm and your eyes meet the eyes of the person you know you're going to spend the rest of your life with. Then imagine that that person isn't the nervous man standing next to the vicar. It isn't a man at all. It's the woman who's been employed to do the flowers in the church.

The trailer hit the web a couple of days ago and this film looks too cute for words. Piper Perabo plays Rachel, the love struck bride and Lena Headey plays Luce, the florist. The official release date is January 27, 2006, but I think it may be limited release (NY/LA).

I've been watching the trailer over and over again. It can be found here: http://www.hollywood.com/content/trailer_detail.aspx?id=3471505&r=6&f=2&pref=1.

I hope limited release means "artsy movie houses". Or better yet, DVD. I can deal with that.

I first heard about this movie about a month ago, and it's been getting some pretty good reviews. Piper Perabo is supposed to be awesome in it. Yay!

I thought I'm the only who's doing that. I think I have watched the trailer for more than 50 times now... It's really frustrating that I can't watch it. I really am wishing and hoping that they'll gonna release it in DVD soonishhhhh!

Nope, you're not alone. I had to watch the D.E.B.S trailer and the "Into the Morning" video more times than I care to admit before the movie actually came out. I'm glad I don't have to wait as long for this one. Afterellen has it slated to come out February 10th I think. And then of course, I have to buy the dvd...

I am absolutly estatic to see Piper Perabo playing a lesbian once again. I thought she was fabulous in Lost in Delirious, although a tragic ending. I hope that this will be a really great movie so I don't regret spending the money to buy it because chances are I won't get to see it other wise.

We don't always get the best films out here in the back of beyond in the UK, so imagine my delight when just before watching the worst film of the year so far (Just Friends, in case you want to know) a trailer for this came on!

I had to be physically restrained by my film-going buddy, and she could only get me to stop screeching by promising to see it with me as many times as I wanted. Unfortunately she exacted her revenge two trailers later by employing the same screeching tactic to make me promise to see Casanova, but it will be a small price to pay!

It looks good, and although I am a bit dubious about Piper's accent, I will revel in seeing her (and Lena Headey *drools like a Pavlov dog*) again!

I was lucky enough to see this film last night in an advanced screening. It is a sweet, cute, romantic and funny film. If you like British romantic comedy (i.ie. Four Weddings and a Funeral, Notting Hill, Love Actually) than you will probably love this. It is as sappy and sugar-coated as the stuff Richard Curtis does and in my opinion, just as effective. It is one of those films that literally leaves you with a "awwww... sigghhhhhh" feeling at the end.

Piper Perabo and Lena Headey have great chemistry. The entire story hinges on whether or not we buy that they fall in love at first sight... and I bought it, hook, line and sinker.

I don't want to reveal much... unless you want me to... but I think this film leave gay audiences in a swoony, dreamy state. It is similiar enough to films like Four Weddings and a Funeral to have nice, cross over appeal. You might find that some of your straight girlfriends will leave the movie theatre saying, "I wonder where I can find a girl like Luce..." Heh.

Thanks, runnerbird! It's great to hear your thoughts. Sounds like a sweet, positive film, and God knows we need more of those. Thanks also for the link to the clips (the space one was very cute)...just watching those couple of minutes, I'm already sighing and 'awwww'ing, so I'm definitely looking forward to seeing the rest of the film. Lena Headey is very swoon-worthy... :)

Sasha - I saw a trailer for it at a Showcase in Coventry, which isn't exactly the gay capital. Not even The Capital, in fact! So I hope it will be out quite widely, certainly in the bigger multi-plexes (is that how you spell it? Multi-plex's, multi-plexis, nah, they both look wrong too. You pick...)

ETA - UK release date is 31st March 2006, according to several different cinema- chain sites. Looking good...

I should get be getting paid by Universal/Fox Searchlight, but this film is so cute, I will happily promote it for free. The film is being released in the U.S. on Friday, January 27 with a limited release, probably only in select markets (NYC, LA, SF). If the film performs, it will probably be released to more cities, if not, well, thank god for DVD. I don't know if many people know about this, but Fox Searchlight is screening the film for free (yes FREE) in most major cities. You just need to RSVP through the official site.

In the U.K., it looks like release date is, as someone posted, March 31. There is an official UK site right here and a U.K. version of the trailers (thankfully without the sappy Lifehouse song) is on the site too.

And finally, I posted a bunch of official stills for the film.

... I swear I don't do this for a living....

Thanks, runnerbird! You're so awesome. Everything I see about this movie just makes me sigh. It looks soooo sweet. (Plus, Piper Perabo is beyond adorable.)

I am really glad it's got a happy ending. Seems like we're finally getting more sweet, normal, rom-com sorts of movies like this and Saving Face. It's about time.

Just saw this movie tonight! There was a huge line to get in (first come first serve) and as luck would have it my best friend and I were the last ones in! Granted, we had to sit in the front row, but hell, I would have stood in the back to watch this movie.

It was pretty much what I'd hoped it to be: funny and wildly romantic, with just enough 'will they won't they angst' to keep you on the edge of your seat. Piper Perabo was excellent in this film, as was Lena Headley, and pretty much everyone else. I thought the comedy was spot on, not forced, and the way the two leads make goo goo eyes at each other just melts your heart. Definitely an instant favorite in my book. So grab your girl, and see this movie. Then make mad monkey love afterwards. Repeat if desired. :-D

Awww...this movie is so sweet! LOVED IT! We saw it at the Sunset5 in Hollywood yesterday. It really is a treat. The two leads are wonderful, have great chemistry, and are very easy on the eyes.

The support cast are all strong, ASH in particular is a riot. It's light, it's funny...a real feel-good kind of film.

Two thumbs up from me and Ang.

It was a fun funny movie. The romance aspect .. eh, Lena sold it! It's hard to imagine this pull that they felt immediately but heck, I bought it. Watching my friend go through a painful divorce, I was happy they skipped that and went right to a happy ending for all!

Funny movie, I think that this and Saving Face are definitely the standard for the lesbian romantic comedy! The key? Get good actors, write a funny script that everyone can enjoy.

I saw this movie on Saturday. My wife and I had to drive all the way to Portland (where it was only playing at one theatre!) and stay overnight...but we saw it! WOO!

we ended up getting lost in downtown Portland before the show but found our way to the theatre with like thirty seconds of previews left. :lol (we had to sit in the second row)

I loved the movie. I thought the comedy was great and ASH was BRILLIANT! it was so good to see him in something new. Um...I thought the romantic aspects of the movie were well done...but few and far between. There could have been more interaction and less inner reflection. or more interaction and more inner reflection...either way... :lol

The leads were HOT! and they had some very intense scenes together...which made the two hour drive and getting lost well worth it.

I would definitely recommend this movie.
