I think this is the first time I've started a topic. This is very exciting (for me, at least).
I recently sat down to watch Napoleon Dynamite. So many people I know LOVED the movie and thought it was really funny (people whose opinions I normally would trust!), but when I watched it...I don't know if I'm missing something, or just not getting the humor... anyway, I wanted to start this thread to see what y'all think about the movie.
**As a side note, my friend took a writing class where the professor brought up this movie as a sample of writing, and the class erupted in a heated argument between people who thought it was the best thing since sliced bread vs. people who thought the movie was just stupid. It ended up with each side insulting the others' intelligence. Maybe that's the point of the movie - to be so ambiguous that people who like it think people who don't aren't sophisticated enough to get the humor, and people who don't like it think people who like it stupidly enjoy cheap comedy.
