BLOOD TIES

Postby Triscuit7 » Sun Mar 04, 2007 5:09 pm

The Canadian-made television show, Blood Ties, is set to begin airing in the US Sunday, 11 March, on LIFETIME. It's based on a series of urban fantasy books by Tanya Huff. Written in the early 1990s they feature a former Toronto police constable, Victoria "Victory" Nelson, who had to give up the job she loves because she is going night blind. A private investigator, she stumbles into the supernatural when she meets Henry Fitzroy, the vampire, while "helping" her former partner, Mike Cellucci, with a series of bizarre murders.

Naturally there will be changes from the books, i.e. loss of one minor character and enlarging the part of another. The author in her Live Journal posts is delighted with the adaptations and was a writer for one of the episodes.

Tanya is one of my favorite authors, so I'm really looking forward to this. :pray Here's the URL http://www.lifetimetv.com/shows/bloodties/bloodties.php There is a trailer up, and the show looks like great fun. :kgeek

What a great show. :party I was extremely happy with the necessary transitions of the material from book to film. The tv show wasn't exactly the book, even eliminating an entire character, yet it held true to the vision of the author. Yay!

Hemiola - I think it's already aired again (Sunday/Monday midnight), but you should be able to view at least the 1st half via the iTunes link on the Lifetime website.

Effrena - I'm sorry to cause distress, but yes - Tanya writes in her blog that the decision was made so that the "Smoke" trilogy i(n which Tony is the main character) could be optioned for another tv show. It hasn't been yet, but there is interest, so keep your fingers crossed.

New episode tonight (10 pm EST). This one isn't based directly on any of the books. :party

Well, I tried this and so far am underwhelmed.

I figured from the above description that it might be something like the wonderful old "Forever Knight" series (of which I was a devoted fan), but the Fitzroy character doesn't seem anywhere near as appealing as Nick Knight (of course, this problem may arise from the fact that I missed the first episode).

Anyway, I've never encountered and/or read the books, so I'll stick with it for a while and see if it improves.

Hey Triscuit7 - thanks for recommending this show. It's fun. I'm still chuckling over the "heart attack" line.
