I hope this will be over soon.

I definitely support the writers (and everyone else who is supporting them), but I also don't want the shows I like to go poof for months and months. The longer this drags on, the more annoyed I'll be, but my annoyance will be directed at the networks for not giving the writers what the writers deserve.

Perhaps, though, if it does go on long enough to effectively destroy my TV-watching, I will be one of those people who tosses their TV altogether. (At this point, I'm just irritated by those people on the internet who make comments like "I got rid of my TV ten years ago and I've read 478728843923 books in that time" but if I turn into one of them, I'll be talking that way, too, come the next strike.) As much as I think I'd feel kind of lost without the shows I watch, honestly, TV is not something I need to live. I would survive quite fine without it and I'm inclined to think I might even be happier and healthier without it.

I definitely support the writers too, but am quite disappointed that the premiere of Cashmere Mafia has been delayed from 27th November until January, it was the one show I was really hanging out to see (and by see I mean download because it won't be on TV in NZ for ages!)

On the whole, the strike shouldn't affect us in New Zealand too much because we're so far behind anyway, I mean they're only just started airing L Word Season 3 for god's sake...thank god I'm technically savvy!
It will only start affecting us if the strike is drawn out for a long time I suppose, the networks should just give the writers what they want!

I am totally pro-union being in a union myself so I support them even if most of this season goes poof. Grr.. but what can you do. They need to fight the corporations for their share of the pie. I am not sure how I feel about the Ellen situation but I feel she should be showing more support that's for sure. It's hard to be caught between a rock and a hard place though.

That's pretty much my view, too. I support the writers and all those who support them, but there's gotta be a better way for them to get than to let the shows just die off.

The most effective way of getting the studios to listen is to shut down the shows. That is the purpose of the strike. It is the last resort action of a group that hasn't been listened to. They don't want to be on strike either, they want to get paid. It's hard to support a long strike as those of us in Southern California remember with the supermarket worker's strike. The longer it goes on, the more the studios will feel it. If you don't take a stand though, you'll never be paid your due and contrary to what they might say, I don't think the studios don't have the money to spare.

I can do without a little tv if it means the money gets divided more fairly. It might be time to pick up a book!

The strike is still on, but word just came down that United Artists have made their own deal with the Guild, so they (and the shows and movies they produce) will be up and running again.

In the meantime, David Letterman made his own deal with the writers, while Jay Leno and Conan O'Brien have decided to go on without writers (NOTE: Leno is a member of the Writer's Guild, and word is the Guild plans to fine him for writing for himself!!!!).

It looks like they might wind up settling with each studio or big producer separately.
