Cashmere Mafia

Postby Alcy » Fri Jan 11, 2008 8:09 pm

Hey guys,
I couldn't see a thread for this new abc show f(eaturing a lesbian/bisexual storyline) so I decided to start one so I can find out if other Kittens have tuned into the first two episodes and whether y'all like it.

I'll start by giving my opinion, this show is created by the same guy that did Sex and the City - I hated that show with a passion but I think that was mostly due to crummy actresses and too much sex. On the other hand, the four leads in Cashmere, Lucy Liu as Mia, Miranda Otto as Juliet, Frances O'Connor as Zoe and Bonnie Sommerville as Caitlin are all absolutely stunning, and I was a fan of them before they ever did something so wonderful as to all team up and be on the same show.

The show itself has started out with some pretty unoriginal storylines but there are snippets of great dialouge. Even if everything else was terrible, I'd still tune in to see Bonnie Sommerville as Caitlin, she's gorgeous and her character is funny and cute and her scenes so far with Lourdes Bendicto have not disappointed, my favourite so far is the club scene where things get a little steamy on the dance floor, so simple but hot!

So is anyone else watching, what do you think?
:peace

I watched this tonight. I didn't much care for it.

I hate they showed it instead of Women's Murder Club, which I like.

I've seen the first two episodes, too. And I liked them. Actually mine seem to be the same reasons you like it, Alcy. The actresses make a great ensemble. It's well played. And there are great dialogues on the way. Caitlin is my favourite character. And the storyline between her and - don't remember the name - deserves way more plot time in my opion. We will see. I do hope they don't turn Caitlin back into a heterosexual.

I didn't watch Sex and the city - mainly because I don't fit into the target group. Searchin' for Mr. Right is the least thing I ever did in my life. Even in times I used to date guys.

I also did love in the last episode the fact the working mom carried away the victory. And that the stay at home mom was portraied as bitchy as she was.

But the best thing is: Showing four women who share a deep friendship with one another. They are supportive, they team with one another. Normally women's friendships are more shown as the connection between enemies. So I will watch it again. And I'm hoping it won't be canceled because of the ratings. We will see.

Unfortunately it hasn't been shown here in Australia, at least not on Free-To-Air. It sucks 'cause alot of the good shows we eventually see on normal tv, has already been on cable.

I saw Lucy Liu on letterman talking about Cashmere Mafia and she looks still so hot! Jeez...

It's not on tv here in New Zealand either but I am not at all patient when it comes to promising looking tv shows and I am dowloading the eppys.

I read somewhere that it was on Channel 9 in Australia, is that a pay channel? Otherwise, some enterprising person has uploaded the episodes in parts onto you tube so you can watch them on there.

I too saw the first two epis and i have to say that i like this series and i'll definitively will keep watching.
I'm probably in the minority here but i really liked sex and the city. I have it to thank for hours of heartfelt laughter :blush
Now that said I think the similarities between SATC and cashmere mafia begin and end in the friendship between these four leading ladies and their lunch dates. There is less of an element of ridicule in cashmere mafia and it works out well that way in my opinion.

I loved Caitlin and i loved the lesbian storyline. Their first kiss had to be the cutest first kiss i've seen on tv for a while, the way Caitlin seems to have lost the ability to actually speak english after Alicia first kisses her and then her little squeak as she realizes she is going to get kissed again... Just too cute for words, not to mention the really great chemistry between the two ladies :-D
On the other hand i thought that Caitlin's realization of "OMG i think I'm gay" after bumping into another woman and talking to her for all of 2 minutes in the same episode where she dumps some guy she was dating felt rushed and just too big of a leap to make in such short time. But also i wasn't looking forward to a long, spread over a number of epis, angst loaded coming out story. But i thought they could have made her wonder if she was bi instead of gay or even a better idea make her gay from the start :-D Oh, ok, i'm being annoying, aren't i? Last suggestion at least she could have been single to start with... why put unknown guy in the picture to get dumped 15 secs later?
Pilot episodes are hard to do, i guess, trying to establish the set for the story, too much to say, too little time to do it.
I liked the ladies together, the friendship between them coming across very nicely.

Now, the second episode i thought was much better than the first. The scenes flowed better, the interaction between the characters felt less rushed and Caitlin's and Alicia storyline developped quite nicely :D
The flirting in Caitlin's office was delicious, the dance scene at the club was sizzling and the ending scene where Caitlin doesn't really know what she's doing and she's so eager to keep Alicia in her life was both cute and heartwarming. Yay for more lesbian storylines on tv and a stronger, longer YAY for lesbian storylines on tv that are done well :pride

So I'm pretty excited about this show (as you can probably tell by the long ramble, lol) and really looking forward to more :D

Nah, it's one of the free ones. But I haven't heard anything about it, and I watch the channel alot since Moonlight started on it.

I would download the episodes but I'm big with the unemployment and broadband is as expensive as truffles atm, at least to me.
