Writer's Block

Postby Aquarius Dreamer » Fri Oct 03, 2003 2:40 pm

WAAH!:cry I have writer's block. I literally can't write anything well, not poems, essays, stories. Nothing. I'm getting frustrated, because I used to be a pretty good writer for my age. How do you get over this? Does anyone have any ideas? I'm not stuck like this forever am I?:thud

Writer's block is a pain.

I get it too. Working on a script at the moment so have had it quite a bit.

I would say listening to music can help, as does reading.

Just relaxing can all help.

hey hey!

I have writers block quite often as well.

Just try working on something else, or stop writing for a while. This may sound corny, but you may want to try a little meditation, just to clear you mind. You can try writing down your dreams and adding creative twists. You could also write songfics, they're easy and fun! Things like that always help me.

Hope that helps

Hey there. I get writer's block too. I did recently and found my way out of it. I went for walks alone, usually in the evenings. It served as quiet time for myself, to take a break and stuff. Oh this may sound crappy, but chit chatting with a close friend might help. Cos you know, conversations with close friends tend to lead to some serious, insightful and perhaps even inspirational stuff. :D

Writer's block can be extremely exasperating. But no worries, you won't be stuck like this forever. ;)

Writer's block is part of the creative process. It's a very annoying, discouraging, and frustrating part, but it is essential. Just keep in mind that all of the greatest writers also suffer through it, and sometimes, they persevere and produce some of their best work.

Here are two things that I do when I’m blocked. Try them if you like.

1.        Watch television. Don’t just watch it though. Analyze the story, characters, and writing of the screenplay. If you’re like most creative types (why else would you have started this thread on this board if you weren’t?) you can find room for improvement in the writing, dialogue, or even the costuming of the show that you’re watching. This is a good right-brain exercise.

2.        Go some place where you would not normally go. I’ve been inspired by unusual circumstances or strange people that I’ve encountered in such places.
