Well this is my last poem of the semester. This is my final exam. I had to write a poem that was a letter to Jane Kenyon. Kenyon was a poet that suffered very much from depression and wrote about it in her work. She died in the 90's.(cancer, i think) Anyway, here it is...



A Life’s Worth



Tell me,

are you happy Jane Kenyon?

Now that your body

can no longer betray you

or decay on you?



Tell me,

did you find solace in the forests

and barns built upon the clouds?

Solace

that the trees and buildings here

could never afford you?



Tell me,

do the flowers there bleed

rainbows on your days of mourning?

Because surely there are days,

even there,

when you look upon us

that are falling victim

to your trail of tears.

Surely you feel for us,

but then you look away

as the winged divine

tilt back their harps.

You look away

and leave the misery solely

on our shoulders.



Tell me,

do you look around

and wish that you had swallowed

that projectile earlier

to get to that place?

Or was it worth the wait?



Tell me

it was worth the wait Jane Kenyon,

so I can send my approaching

lunch of Ambian and slugs away.



Tell me

it was worth the wait

and I will dream of your harpist’s music

as I sleep away

this day’s mid-afternoon despair.

Please tell me, Jane Kenyon,

that it was worth the wait.

i've said it before and i'll say it again, your poems are amazing. really. oh and "holder of dreams", i'm so glad you wrote a poem about making tea! or not.. but really, amazing poems.

Thanks Eveningstar845 and nazelhuts for your kind words. Now that the class is over ( I got an A. woo hoo! ) I am going to have to work hard to make myself write more poetry. Even though I like it, I struggle very much with writing it. Hopefully in the nearish future I will have something else to post.

It has been a LONG time since I have been here! Can we say writer's block!



I have been reading lots and slowly moving through it. Here is a little something that I came up with last night.

On Writing



brown sludge trickles then pours

from the opening shiny with

the anticipation of output

sweat drips and mars the shine

but slowly through the blur

and the burn the sludge runs clear.

To You-



It's about knowing thyself and to thine own self be true and all those other trite things that people say and believe until they become casualties to your truths.

And then feet hit the ground with fewer support systems and they take it all back, realizing suddenly that it is easier to tell you to deal with your shit than to be forced into dealing with their own.

For the truth has no soft edges to rest upon. It allows for no fantasy and takes no prisoners.

It is harsh. It is bloody. It is brutal. It is true.

So here is you who stand at the red river's edge, crimson between your toes and fingers.

And to you who take the skeletons from your closet and place them proudly upon the mantle.

Yes, wrestling with your truths is hard -

but the truth will set you free.

Great pieces or work you've posted. I've been reading your other poems and some of your writing as well and I have to say that those were great too, sorry for not leaving as much feedback but I did enjoy reading your stuff.
