some things I've written...

Postby Soluna89 » Mon Sep 05, 2005 3:27 am

Written over the summer:
The House is enormous, not even really a house at all. It looks like a giant lighthouse, stranded in a polluted, post-apocalyptic world, apart from everything else, a towering structure that seems to never end...

Inside is worse. Dull stel walls are packed tight with all kinds of teens, from deadbeats who want release from their hormones to those who believe they're the only ones who really exist. Wannabe pimps and whores mix with preps trying to escape their daily lives, and above it all, on ledges too far away to touch, underground bands blast out their music, struggling to become something more.

I do not belong here.

Yet here I stand, trapped within a horde of rapidly moving bodies that glide sinuously against mine. The acrid, musty scent of sweat combined with the sweeter, alost coppery tang of blood fill the air around me. The dim lights make it hard to see, just light enough that my eyes can't really adjust, bathing everything in an eerie, yellow-red glow.

I move through the crowd as delicately as possible, a timid, wraith-like figure, almost invisible amid these others. They found this place on their own, like they needed to be here. But I... I was brought here. Now I can't get out; the doors are one-way.

There is no band today, but popular songs blare through the crowds, in all languages. Shakira's latest hit La Tortura starts up, and people cheer and moan, not angily, but in joy. If you understand the lyrics it's a very adult song. Even if you don't speak Spanish the lust and desire are made very clear in her voice, as well as every pulsing beat of the music.

It swells through the crowd. Couples move against one another, and others around them; two have started going at it right in the middle of everything. They can't help it, can't deny what flows between them. They are helpless. That's the power of the House, music is the weapon it uses to cut us to pieces, and to keep us trapped.

I curl up on a plush armchair - crimson like blood, accurately enough - and close my eyes, hoping to get some sleep. There are no other rooms here, no beds. If you're tired you either find an empty spot on the floor - and run the risk of being trampled - or one of the soft chairs. You could sleep on a table, but people tended to push you off. If you slept on a chair - or a couch if you were really lucky - the worst thing that could happen is you might wake up with company.

I drift to sleep, a new metal song making my head throb. I wince, curling up on myself, and then it all fades away...

POEM:
Let there be no deception
Let there be no more lies
There's been so much between us
I'm not sure who I despise.
I've seen you in your self-centered glory,
All the decietful games you play
You've stepped on me so many times
And I desire you anyway.
I wish I could stop wanting you,
I wish this could all just go away...
I've hidden so much of me from you
Even though I know that it's wrong
But you inspre in me a certain fear,
And a hunger that's just too damned strong...
Chorus
I know I shouldn't love you
But I don't want this trip to end
I know that you don't really love me,
But kiss me - And I'll be yours again...
Chorus x2 to end

*curious look* Wht do you all think?

I really enjoyed reading this. I actually wanted to read a lot more and was disappointed that you stopped there. *encourages you to write part two*

These were my favourite quotes:

They can't help it, can't deny what flows between them. They are helpless. That's the power of the House, music is the weapon it uses to cut us to pieces, and to keep us trapped.

Tortura starts up, and people cheer and moan, not angily, but in joy.

You have the skill to pull readers in with your descriptive words. The whole piece was rhythmic and dizzying to read.

Some Stuff:

written about a year ago while going through a strange time:
A single kiss and a fiery
Warmth swells in my throat,
Reminiscent of hard liquor...
How sweet.
I want to be a good girl,
But how can I
When you make me think
These thoughts?
Unredeemable, irresistable,
Burning me from the inside out.
I drown in the flames,
So sweet and umtamed,
Until I'm brought back
To you.
The string to my kite,
An Anchor as I float
into the sky.
Save me...
I'm lost without
You.

A dream I made into a short thing, I may actually turn this into a short story:
Stranger than their sympathy
Is my pretend apology...

-original copyright to Goo Goo Dolls (I think)

I close my eyes, willing myself blind, anything to make this vision stop. I open my eyes again and there they all are - happy and loving, perfect examples of what we lack: She cuddles into his arms and he kisses her gently on the top of her head; another girl is nearly asleep on the couch in her boyfriend's arms. Even the other two guys are content together, stretched out on the floor, sharing a monster bowl of popcorn.

I am folded into a soft chair in the corner, wondering how long it will take before the ache slides away, leaving the shell of my existence behind. Why are some so blessed, and others, not at all? The one person I wish could be here is not; will never be...

A gentle hand grasps the chair, turning it so that I'm brought face-to-face with... her. I stare up at her in shock, wondering if maybe I've fallen asleep, and am dreaming all of this. She seems to realize what I'm thinking - the same open book as ever - because she folds me into her arms. "Does this feel like a dream?" she whispers. I shake my head, worried that I'll cry if i speak.

...Too late. She looks alarmed. "No, no, don't cry!" She hugs me tighter, placing a soft kiss on my forehead. I smile shakily, allowing myself to relax into the embrace at last. I wish I could ask how she got here, when, but all that can wait. Right now, I've go a movie to watch, and happiness to feel...

The lyrics popped into my head, and seemed to fit even though they've got nothing to do with the storyline... Oh, well.

A warning: I'm not suicidal, this didn't actually happen. This is what I come up with after watching Devil's Advocate and getting 1/2 hour of sleep:

I Couldn't Help Her

I watched her for weeks in silence,
Wishing I knew the words to say;
Pretending I didn't notice the cuts
Though there was a new one every day.

She was always listening to sad music,
Letting tears roll down her face;
She said it was a kind of catharsis
That eased a pain she couldn't place.

Only in sleep did she have peace,
Even if it was short-lived;
Her dreams were filled with hope and joy,
And a love no one seemed to give.

They found her on the floor that morning,
A broken mirror lying beside her head.
The very key that set her free
Was her greatest enemy, she'd said.

The broken shard still clutched in hand
Was stained with her blood - I saw.
The doorway to the afterlife
Was carved in her throat, a gaping maw.

I couldn't help her find her way,
Although God knows I tried;
I wish I'd done more than I did,
Then maybe she wouldn't have died.
“Well, I for one, applaud your gayness and hope you find a woman who will give you many many orgasms.” - Anya, Piece Of My Heart, elitetech04

:clap :clap :clap

i'm lost for words right now...

this part just tugged at my heart:

Only in sleep did she have peace,
Even if it was short-lived;
Her dreams were filled with hope and joy,
And a love no one seemed to give.

saddening as poems like this tend to be... but i loved it in spite of its theme.

Thanks. ^-^

This one's kind of long, but I wrote it about a year ago and I like it. ^-^

Dark Angel
Prologue
Mortals are fairly clear on the lines between good and evil. So am I… kind of hard not to understand, my being evil and all. I know what you’re thinking: I don’t look evil, with my long black hair and green-gold eyes set in an innocent face, just the opposite of evil. Well, you don’t know me yet, so I don’t think you should judge me. Let me introduce myself. Jade is my mortal name; picked it myself. But I’ve been called many other things, depending on your religion. Daughter of Lucifer to the Christians and Jews, the Dark Goddess to the Pagans… Some have called me Lucifer’s Whore- or was it Bitch? Can’t remember. Probably both. But he’s my father, people! But still… No! Back on track.
Anyway, here’s the thing. Lately that line I mentioned earlier has gotten kind of fuzzy. You’ll se why once I start my story. As one show said, “Love makes you do the wacky.” Shit, that probably gave away half my story! Look, just listen to my tale, and maybe you’ll realize how I earned my latest title as… Hell’s Angel.

Chapter One
Hell is a terrible place for mortals, but for those who don’t mind eternal torment- of which there were precious few- it wasn’t all bad, sometimes downright- “Boring!” a feminine voice complained as Lucifer sent yet another sinful mortal screaming to his worst nightmare. “Dearest, what’s wrong?” he asked, turning to his only daughter. “Isn’t there anything else to do? I wanna be able to do all this myself, not watch it!” In every aspect she looked like a petulant nineteen year old girl- except for the wolf ears perched elegantly on her head, disappearing into her dark hair. Those were a touch she’d added herself, and liked quite a lot. She was in charge of the evil souls, and he was almost sad to see the way they’d rubbed off on her. Maybe some time topside would soften her a bit.
“Actually, we haven’t really seen the outer world in the last few centuries, have we?” The Judge of Souls paused thoughtfully. “Pet, why don’t you go up and have a look-about? You know, see exactly why the rates of cruelty and evil have gone up. It’s a little worrying.” He was actually quite well-spoken and tried not to be rude, despite all the stereotypes about Hell, Satan, and evil in general. No evil cackling here… well, maybe once in a while, but generally to scare those who refused to accept their fate, not as a rule.
He smiled in relief as finally soul worthy to move on to eternal bliss stood fearfully before Him, and sent him on with a wave of His hand.
His daughter sat up and clapped her hands eagerly, for all the world like a child being given a present. “Can I pick my form? I’ll make it fit in, I promise!” He smiled indulgently. Even though greed was one of the deadly sins, His daughter was actually quite easy to please. “Why not. Go on, and don’t get into anything that would cause too much mayhem.”
Moments later Lucifer’s daughter, alias Jade, stood on earth in Salem, Massachusetts, her favorite city. Her green and gold-flecked eyes flashed, and a nearby bank burst into flames. “It’s good to be back,” she sighed, stretching languidly and causing a young man walking by to run into a telephone pole. She chuckled. “Oh yes, very good…”

Chapter Two
“Goddesses of light, I offer flesh, heart, and soul,” Rachel Saunders chanted softly, “in order to aid in this girl’s healing; as I will so mote it be!” She blew out the three white candles and sat back on her heels. The girl lying before her was surrounded by a sickly aura, and Rachel watched as it slowly grew stronger until it was a healthy white color. The girl groaned and sat up, holding her head. “Oww…” She looked blearily at Rachel. “My- head. It feels better. Thanks!” Rachel smiled and began packing her supplies. “No problem, just don’t do anything strenuous for a while. Okay?”
The girl nodded and Rachel left, heading back to her dorm. She was only nineteen, still in college, but was fast gaining a reputation around campus. Oddly enough, the fact that she was flatly against doing love spells only increased her popularity. Rachel was fairly pretty, with shoulder-length auburn hair and honest hazel eyes, and was only slightly shorter than most girls her age.
An explosion in the distance caught her attention, but only increased her desire to get home quickly. Her roommate would be worried as it was, and being any later would drive her insane.
“Ohmigod, get inside!” Jacie cried, pulling her into the dorm. “It’s all over the news! The Lincoln National Bank just exploded and the firemen have no clue what caused it!” Jacie Yamada was a pretty, albeit hyper, Asian-American with short hair dyed black and electric blue- at least this week, since Jacie changed hair color like most people changed clothes, (just yesterday it had been flame red and orange,) and brown eyes.

“… just glad you’re okay!” Rachel rolled her eyes affectionately and set her bag on the table. “Chill, I’m fine. Anyway, I got you some yarrow, it should help your cold.” Jacie grinned and caught the bottle filled with herbs. “Thanks.”
Rachel flopped down onto her bed with a small sigh. “Gods, I’m tired,” she muttered. “Hey, you’re not overworking yourself, are you?” Jacie asked anxiously. “Cause you know-“ Rachel sighed and smiled slightly. “Nah. I just remembered I have a big test tomorrow in Psychology.”
“Ah, you’ll pass it. You’re already like, miss therapist for half the campus,” Jacie reassured her. “Oh, there’s a new girl in the dorm; we’re supposed to go down and meet her. You game?”
Rachel, already half-asleep, shook her head and blinked. “Huh?” Jacie laughed. “Tell ya what: You just rest up and I’ll let the girls know you’re feeling out of it.” Rachel fell back with a sigh of relief and grinned at her roommate. “Thanks, I owe you one.”
Jacie rolled her eyes and left as Rachel fell asleep, the setting sun warm on her face.
A darkened hallway, seemingly endless… Should I follow it? I see… a small light, I think it’s coming closer. No, I am moving, not the light. What’s this? A painting; it looks as if it’s glowing from the inside.
Unfortunately, just as Rachel got close enough to see what the painting was of, something woke her. She looked around groggily, trying to clear the incessant buzzing from her head. ‘Stupid alarm…’ At least today was Saturday. She could use today to try and figure out what happened yesterday, and why the police couldn’t determine the cause of the bank explosion. “Jacie, I’m going for coffee. You want any?”
Her answer was a muffled threat, something to do with never speaking again. “Later,” she called, and left the dorms.

Chapter Three
Rachel entered the smoky darkness of her favorite coffee shop, surprised to notice her usual spot was taken. A young woman around her age with long black hair and wild dark green-gold eyes lounged easily in the cushy armchair reading what appeared to be a Japanese comic book. After ordering Rachel made her way over and sat in the chair beside her. “Hey.”
“Hm.”
“You’re kind of in my seat.”
“I care because…?” Rachel sighed. The girl wasn’t even bothering to look at her. “Never mind. You new here?” For the first time the girl seemed to take interest in Rachel, sitting up and giving her the once-over. “Yeah. Name’s Jade. What about you?”
“Rachel.”
“Nice. Preppy.” They both laughed a little awkwardly. “Thirsty?” Jade took the proffered mug, drank, and handed it back. “Thanks.”
“Where you from?” Rachel asked, catching Jade off-guard.
“H- L.A. My father sent me here for college.” There was a warmth to her voice, almost intimate, despite the casualness behind the words.
“Something wrong?” Rachel jumped, then shook her head. “Sorry. Spaced.” Jade gave a half-smile. “It’s okay. We all do on occasion.” She stood and stretched, then offered a hand to Rachel. “Come on. I think I’d enjoy hanging out with you.”
“Sure.”
They wandered the town for a while; Rachel showing Jade all the better spots in town. “Why don’t we head to my place? My roommate won’t mind.”
“Sure,” Jade smiled, and followed her out into the brightly lit street. As they entered her dorm, Rachel noticed Jacie wasn’t there. A yellow Post-It note explained her absence: ‘Hey, slight problem. They had to do some shifting around to make room for the new girl. I’m now the ‘lucky’ roommate of our dear head cheerleader. So, so sorry! BTW, you got the new girl. I thought she was kind of rude. Call me! Bye!’
“So this is my new room!” Jade said behind her, and Rachel finally noticed that all Jacie’s stuff was gone, replaced by a few boxes. “Here, I’ll help.” Eventually Jade was unpacked and they sat on the couch. Rachel turned on the TV and they watched MTV for a while, enjoying the comfortable silence between them.
About twenty minutes later Rachel fell asleep. The dream she’d had the previous night began again, but instead of the picture the light illuminated the face of a girl, no older than fifteen. She had long dark hair that fell to her waist, and she knelt before a figure in a blood-red cloak. It reached for her…

The rest of the dream was vague, and Rachel woke in terror to find herself curled up with Jade’s arms around her. The other girl was clearly still asleep. Rachel gently pulled away and glanced at the clock, then gasped; it was already 1:34 in the morning. She shook Jade’s arm softly, rousing her, and she sat up. “Huh?” She stared blearily at the clock and groaned. “How long was I out?”
“Not as long as me,” Rachel assured her, climbing into bed, “thank the gods it’s summer.”
“You okay?”
“Fine, why?” Jade sat cross-legged on the other bed, watching her. “You seemed kind of freaked out. Bad dream?”
“In a matter of speaking,” she agreed. “Spill. We are roomies now, after all.” Rachel ran a hand through her tawny brown hair and sighed. “Just the usual, I guess. Long fall, then boom. Like Wile E. Coyote.”
“Liar.” She sounded almost amused. “Fine, don’t share. We only just met; I understand.” Rachel half-smiled, lying down. “Thanks. Maybe another time.”
Jade smiled at the now-sleeping figure across the room and felt the first stirrings of an emotion yet unknown to her. She made a mental prayer- to her father, of course. ‘Please Daddy, keep her safe.’
Something brought Jade out of a very pleasant dream that she could dimly recall once awake. It had quite a lot to do with her new roommate…‘She peered through the darkness to see Rachel thrashing in bed. Falling, my ass,’ she thought and hurried to the other girl. “Rach, wake up! Come on, it’s just a dream. Snap out of it!”
Rachel woke suddenly, blinked, and threw herself into Jade’s arms, crying softly. Jade comforted her in gentle tones, thankful that it was dark so Rachel couldn’t see her red face. That dream was making it damned difficult to be comforting. Once Rachel stopped crying Jade stood, but Rachel caught her hand. “I know it’s childish, but could you stay? I get nervous sometimes.”
Jade smiled a little, but her face, if red before, was certainly crimson now. “S-sure.” ‘Stupid dream!’ She climbed into bed beside Rachel, who, already almost asleep, curled possessively around Jade. ‘Good luck sleeping tonight…’ she thought wryly.

Apparently Jade had little trouble sleeping, because the next time she woke the sun was bright and the birds-damn them-were chirping very loudly. Moments after, Rachel woke to find herself curled up yet again in Jade’s arms, but this time the other girl was awake. “Morning,” she said, and yawned.
“Hey.” Rachel thought about moving, but she found she couldn’t. Jade didn’t appear to want to either, staring into space the way she was. “Hungry?” Rachel asked. Jade came back to Earth and nodded. “Need help?”
Rachel smiled and, to her surprise, winked at her. “Nah. I’ll make you something, seeing as we’re new roomies and all. You can cook next time.” As she disappeared into the ‘kitchen’-more like a Bunsen burner and mini-fridge-Jade leaned back and closed her eyes, letting the sun’s warmth act as a replacement for the warmth of Rachel’s body. ‘Something’s happening here,’ Jade mused, ‘and I think I like it.’

Chapter Four
Once they were both dressed Rachel began packing her messenger bag with notebooks, jars, candles, and other supplies. “Where you going?” Jade asked, looking up from a textbook. “Got a call. Customers await.”
“Mind if I join you? I know some spells require a lot of energy; I could help,” Jade offered. “You practice?” Rachel asked. “A bit. Enough to know what I’m doing.”
“All right then,” she agreed. The first call was to one of Rachel’s friends, who wanted some way to keep her good luck for her upcoming midterms. “Here,” Rachel told Jade, “hold this.” She handed Jade a red bag and placed inside a few talismans that had been previously inscribed, then sewed it shut, saying, “I sew this bag for luck and wealth, with string of red for love and wealth, that it may keep by night and day, woe and sickness far away.” She handed the bag to her friend and they continued to their next location.
Once all the customers were satisfied Rachel turned to Jade. “How about putting our earnings to good use?” Jade grinned. “Sure. Mall sound good?”
“It’s like you read my mind.” Jade smiled mysteriously and said, “Magicus laborae ab noster voluntas.” Rachel frowned. “Magick works to our will?” Jade nodded. “Yup. C’mon, let’s go!”
Once they arrived at them mall, Jade headed straight for Hot Topic. “I love this shirt!” Rachel told Jade, holding it up. It had a baby with a ray gun on it with the phrase, ‘I like you. When I rule the world your death will be quick and painless.’ Jade laughed. “But you’re so beautiful; why don’t you wear something that shows off your body?”
“You really think that?” Rachel asked, wondering just why that pleased her so much. “’Course. Now, go try these on.” She pressed a tight white tank top with a blood-red rose blooming on the front and a pair of even tighter black pants with suspenders hanging down the legs into her hands and pushed her into the dressing room. Minutes later she emerged, beet red, and turned around slowly.
Jade stared wide-eyed. It was perfect for clubbing, but Rachel didn’t seem like a party type. Well, that could be changed… “Buy it,” she ordered, “and I’ll buy you the other t-shirt.” Before Rachel could argue they had already paid and were on their way home. “B-but- it’s only 5:30! Why’re we going home?”
“Relax, it’s only a quick stop,” Jade replied. “Now, go put on your new clothes and meet me in the main hall.”
Rachel waited for Jade and gasped when the young woman finally came down. She was wearing a black top that looked more like a bikini, with little threads hanging from the front, and black leather pants, the comfortably tight ones you could move in without making squeaking sounds.
“Damn,” she breathed, drinking in the sight of her friend’s appearance. “You don’t look too bad yourself, Rach,” Jade murmured, sauntering past her to the car. “You coming or not?”
“Where’re we going?” Rachel asked once she regained the ability to speak. “To a club I know of.” Jade smiled at her. “I think you’ll have fun once you get used to it. Just stay close to me, okay?”
“Wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.” The words came out before Rachel could stop them, and she covered her mouth. Jade looked at her interestedly. “Good.” She took Rachel’s hand and squeezed it gently. “That’s what friends are for, right?” Rachel blushed. “Right.”
As they stepped out of the car Rachel tripped on a loose piece of cement. “Aah!” Jade caught her, holding her protectively. “You okay?”
“Y-yeah.” Jade smiled, helping her upright. “All right. Now remember, stay close.” They walked into the club and quickly found a table, since Wednesday nights weren’t usually big rave nights. After ordering a drink each Jade grabbed Rachel’s hand. “let’s dance.”
She pulled the nervous Witch onto the floor and pulled her close, her hips swinging to the rhythm of the music. At first Rachel moved awkwardly, then her body seemed to get the beat and moved flawlessly with Jade. It was one of Shakira’s songs, Ready For The Good Times, and it was sort of a medium pace, which was good since Rachel was new to this. Jade didn’t seem to mind, pulling Rachel closer and wrapping her arms around Rachel’s waist.
Rachel turned so they were facing each other and moved more quickly, her body pulsing with the music. Jade opened her eyes and looked at Rachel admiringly. Rachel ran her hands through her hair and smiled coyly, eyes full of forbidden promises, and Jade wasn’t sure if it was just the music or if this was a whole new side of Rachel, but the girl was definitely a raver at heart.
She pulled back from Jade and backed into where the lights were flashing different colors, creating a startling effect as she whirled and swung her body with the beat. Obviously there was some Latin blood in her, from the style of dancing, and Jade pulled her closer again as the music slowed.
“That was amazing,” Jade told her. “Really?” Rachel asked, the nervous tone back in her voice. Gone was the girl who’d been unafraid to bare her soul on the floor a moment ago, but when she looked at Jade, the promises were still in her eyes, just very well hidden. “Yeah. You stay close though, I don’t trust the guys in here. Just act like you’re with me and they’ll leave us alone.”
‘Why pretend?’ Rachel thought, then bit back a gasp. Where had that come from? She rested her head on Jade’s shoulder as they danced slowly, deep in thought. Could it be that she actually liked Jade that way? Anything was possible, she supposed, it just surprised her.
“Ready to go?” Jade asked.
“Huh? Oh, yeah. Sure.” They made their way out to the car, but were stopped by what looked oddly enough like a werewolf. “Stupid animal,” Jade muttered, stepping in front of Rachel.

“Jade, I think I can handle this.” She pulled out a small vial and hurled it at the beast, crying, “Ligare!” It snarled and tried to rush her, but couldn’t move. Jade glanced at Rachel, who shrugged. “Binding spell. Go ahead and beat it.”
“With pleasure.” Unfortunately, Rachel hadn’t put enough in the vial, and the spell wore off in time for the beast to dodge Jade’s rush. It hurled itself at Rachel, knocking her into a wall and biting her savagely in the side. She cried out and beat the thing in the head with a nearby brick, just enough to disorient it. Jade jumped on its back and started hitting it and, to Rachel’s surprise, causing damage.
It roared angrily and threw her off, turning back to Rachel. It managed to claw her a few more times and knock her into the wall a second time, knocking her unconscious. Jade fumbled in her coat for her only gun, one from her father loaded with silver bullets- he said the things were annoying this time of year, but this is ridiculous!- and shot it straight on just as it leaped for her. She rolled out from under its corpse and rushed over to Rachel.
‘Screw the hospital… I’ve gotta get her home.’ Rachel came around about half an hour later due to the extreme pain in her right side. “Oh my Gods!” she screamed, trying to clutch her side. Her arms were quickly restrained by- “Jacie!?” Her old roommate’s kind face peered concernedly at her. “Jade told me about the dog attack, Rach. I came as soon as she called.”
Rachel peered down and groaned; her entire right side was a bloody mess. Jade was efficiently cleaning away the blood in order to be able to properly heal the wounds, so Rachel was relieved to see that it could have been worse. One bite and a few claw marks; better than being dead- “Ow! Gods, that hurts!”-maybe.
Jade smiled at Jacie. “Thanks. I’ve got it now, if you could bring up some supplies I’d be grateful. I’m pre-med,” she added when Jacie gave her a skeptical look. She nodded and left, returning shortly with an armful of bandages, antibiotics, and the like, and left Jade to work. Rachel was surprised when Jade began removing her clothes, and was ignoring the armload of stuff Jacie had dropped off.
“A couple of the claw marks are below your jeans and I can’t see them,” Jade explained. “I’m going to try a spell, okay?” Rachel nodded and gasped in pain. Even nodding was agony. Apparently one or two of the claw marks were right across her spine.
Jade took a deep breath and began to chant. The slow, rhythmic beat lulled Rachel into soft, pleasant daydreams, ones where her parents were still alive and she was free to be happy with them, and Jade.
Jade continued in the same chanting voice, but was now speaking directly to Rachel. “I can feel it, you know. The power of your desire rolls over me like a living thing.” She made a soft hushing noise as Rachel, face red, began to protest. “It overwhelms me,” she continued, “yet you yourself still deny it.” Unconsciously she rubbed her hands over Rachel’s exposed back, an oddly human gesture that felt right, and soothed the fire in Rachel’s skin.
“I nearly lost you tonight. That was when I realized why the want I felt from you was so strong. Your desire was combined with my own. Do you think,” she paused thoughtfully as Rachel drifted to sleep, not hearing Jade’s troubled question, “that the Daughter of Hell- could maybe- love?”

Chapter Five
“Rach?” Rachel opened her eyes and saw Jade standing over her. “How’re you feeling?” Jade asked, clearly worried. Rachel smiled wryly. “You get half your side ripped out by a werewolf and we’ll see how cheerful you are.”
“That’s good,” Jade smiled. “Look, I need you to do one thing, though.” Rachel sat up slowly, trying not to flinch. “What?” Jade gestured to a large cage. “You’ll have to stay in this tonight. In case you’re infected.”
“But didn’t you get bitten too? Or scratched?” Rachel asked, eyeing the large bandage on Jade’s arm. “Yeah, but I can’t be infected.”
“Why?” Jade sighed. “Personal. Happened when I was little. Now the disease doesn’t affect me. But since you’re not immune, into the cage.” Rachel smiled as she stepped inside. The inside was made up like a bed, with blankets, pillows, and her favorite bear. “Take that out. If I do shift, I don’t want to kill my favorite stuffed animal.”
She looked at the clock. “I was out for a whole day?”
“Just about.” Just then Rachel felt something stir inside of her. “Quick, you’ll find a bottle in my room in a box marked ‘In Emergency. Bring it.” Jade did so, and Rachel drank it. “I knew a werewolf once; this enabled him to keep himself under complete control. Let’s hope it works on me.”
“How will I know?”
“Hm… I’ll raise my right hand- sorry, paw, and tap the cage door three times, all right?”
“Got it.” As the change began, Rachel cried out in pain; her bones cracked under her flesh, which appeared to be melting, and her insides twisted around, then- quickly as it started it was done. She shook her head rapidly, felt her ears twitch, picking up every sound, and her vision picked up just about everything. Slowly and deliberately, she raised a paw and tapped the cage door once- twice- three times. Jade sighed in relief and let her out. (Well, this is weird.)
Jade blinked. “I-I can hear you!” (Must be a side effect of the potion.) Rachel wagged her tail and curled up on her bed. (At least I don’t hurt anymore. Night!) Minutes later both girls were fast asleep.

Chapter Six
Two months and three days later…
Rachel and Jade tumbled, laughing, out of their front door, hurrying to their classes in a vain effort not to be late. “Thanks a lot,” Rachel said, pretending to be angry. “Now we’re late!” Jade laughed. “It was worth it though, right? Come on, those spells are totally useful!” Rachel nodded, remembering the complicated spells and rituals Jade had taught her the previous night, rewarding each one with chocolate or a kiss or something similar. Rachel blushed lightly, then recalled something disturbing. During the rituals Jade had seemed disturbingly similar to the goddess Rachel had once called upon in a fit of grief and anger when her parents died last year. The deity had informed her she couldn’t bring her parents back, and had eventually talked her out of trying to join them. The hair, the expressions, it was all familiar. Rachel ignored the idea, deciding to deal with Jade after class.
“Hey, Jade-“ she began, turning to her friend, but Jade cut her off, pressing her lips to Rachel’s in a deep, passionate kiss. “See you after class for lunch?” Jade murmured, smiling mysteriously. Rachel nodded, still shocked, as Jade continued, “meet me at the café, all right?” and left.
Classes seemed unusually dull that day as Rachel studiously took notes and followed the lessons, but somehow her heart wasn’t in it. Did Jade know that was Rachel’s first kiss since eighth grade? The playful kisses of the night before hadn’t counted, they were more sisterly in a fashion. “You all right?” Jacie asked. “Yeah. Just thinking.”
“Oh. Listen, you and Jade wanna come over tonight? Dane and I are having a movie night, and I’ve missed you lately.” Jacie studied Rachel. “Call, ok? It’s at Dane’s place around nine, if you wanna come.” Rachel smiled. “Sounds cool. I’ll try to swing by, ok?” They parted and Rachel hurried to the café, where Jade was waiting.
“Listen, Jade. Something weird happened last night.” She took a deep breath. “First off, my parents died last year. I don’t wanna get into details, but I was really upset and called up this goddess, and last night- you looked just like her.” ‘That was her!?’ Jade stared intently at her, then her whole body seemed to sag slightly.
“It was me.”

Chapter Seven
Rachel stared at her incredulously. “W-what?” She’d expected laughter, or pleasure at such a compliment, but not for what she had thought to be confirmed. “It was me,” Jade said again. “I wasn’t sure I could trust you with the truth just yet, but now- Well, guess you found out on your own.”
“Found out that you’re- His daughter? That you’re a deity that judges the dead, and controls death? That you and He are responsible for my parent’s deaths!?” She stood, shaking. “I’ve got to think about this. See you later.” Jade sighed as Rachel left. ‘I should have known…’ She left the café, intending to speak with her father about all this. He wasn’t really evil, as people always thought, and valued mortal life. That was why she was here, after all.
She walked across the parking lot and blinked in shock. She could sense something that wasn’t meant to happen- there!
A child was bouncing a toy ball as his mother struggled with something in the car. His ball bounced out into the nearby street, and the boy followed. All Jade’s senses screamed that this one was meant to live, forcing her into action. She dove at him, knocking him out of the street in time to keep him from getting hit by the eighteen-wheeler that was roaring at them, and managed to grab his ball in the same instant.
She sat up, ignoring the sharp pain in her head as she checked the boy over. his mother hurried over frantically and thanked her as she gathered up boy and ball. “No probs,” she grunted as she stood. They left and she tried to get back home, but all she could manage was to contact her father mentally.
“You saved the child, huh?” He sounded amused. “Yeah, so?”
“You’re in charge of the evil souls. That good deed trapped you in the mortal realm for now, but if you manage to some how set your balance back you’ll be able to help me with both. The other Gods say you need to spend some more time up there.” She gasped.
“But Dad!-“ She was cut off by His firm reply. “I’m sorry you messed things up with the girl, but you need to set things right up there. Not to mention setting that bank ablaze wasn’t meant to happen. 50 unwanted deaths are being sorted out down here. Check in once in a while, and for crying out loud, get out of the street!”
She cut off the connection and jumped out from in front of another car. “Suppose that’s that, then. Now, how to set things right with Rachel…”
Chapter Eight
Rachel let out a frustrated growl and dropped her razor, watching blood well from the cut on her leg. ‘If my hands weren’t shaking so damned badly…’ She sighed and cast a quick glamour. The events of today had really unnerved her, and it was beginning to show. She really felt bad, which surprised her, but not very much.
She knew she couldn’t stay mad at Jade, but that was to be expected. What startled Rachel, however, was the thought that ran through er head. ‘I can’t stay mad because I love her.’ She might love Jade, but there would always be that small doubt in the back of her mind. “You okay?”
She jumped and turned. Jade stood behind her, a concerned look on her face. ‘When did she get back?’ Rachel grabbed a towel and stood. “Knock much?” Jade smiled a bit. “I’ve seen you naked before.” Rachel blushed. “Yeah, when you were healing me.” A pause, then softer, “and I trusted you.”
“I just wondered if you were all right,” Jade said, hurt. “Yeah. I-I’m fine. You startled me is all.”
“Sorry.” They stood awkwardly for a minute, then Jade took a tentative step towards Rachel. “Look, I’d wanted to tell you for a while. My father- he sent me up to see why evil souls had increased so much. And my job- punishing evil souls- had turned me into a cruel person. My father didn’t want that. But then I met you, and you changed me. But I can’t help who I am. Please- don’t hold it against me.” She cupped Rachel’s face in her hands, leaned in, and kissed her gently. Rachel stared disbelievingly at her, then something inside her melted. She smiled and returned the kiss. She felt Jade’s tongue flick against her lips and opened her mouth, letting her enter. ‘Thank you…’
Jade pulled back suddenly, noticing the almost drowsy look in the other’s eyes. “The power- it tastes good…” Rachel’s eyes flashed from hazel to pure green and back as she asked, “Really?” Jade’s hands slid down to her waist. She put her mouth near Rachel’s ear and murmured, “yes.” She pulled the towel from Rachel’s body and led her back into their room, pushing her down onto the bed.

Half an hour or so later Rachel sighed contentedly, a rumbling sound emitting from her throat like a purr. She laid her head on Jade’s shoulder, putting herself in a very compromising position. “Why Miss Rachel, I’m flattered… but also exhausted,” Jade told her playfully. She kissed the top of her head and added, “you sure I’m the first girl you’ve been with?”
“Jade! Of course!” Jade laughed. “Good. Just checking.” Rachel held a hand up in front of her face and shifted just enough that her eyes were golden, her ears those of a wolf, and her fingers were clawed. She traced the pointed nails down Jade’s skin and smiled when the other girl shivered. “You like that?”
“Very much,” Jade sighed, kissing the tufted tips of the girl’s wolf ears, remembering her old ones. They suited Rachel much better, she decided. Rachel stood and dressed, leaving Jade where she was.
“Hey, where’re you going?” Jade asked.
“Stuff to do, like, oh say, study.” Rachel gave her a look. “We are in college, after all.” Jade gestured to the TV. “But Family Guy’s starting!”
Rachel glanced at the screen, then sighed and sank down on the bed with a smile, then pulled on her shoes. “I’ll get us some coffee.”
“Club tonight?” Jade asked. “Sure.”
When Rachel returned she glanced at Jade. “My parents- were they…” Jade held her comfortingly. “My father told me their souls were the purest he’d seen in many centuries. They were good people.” Rachel stood with her coffee. “I need to go study. I’ll be back soon, ok?” Jade nodded reluctantly. “Ok. Later.”
Once Rachel was gone Jade’s demeanor changer completely. ‘Those dreams Rachel’s been having mean something, I know it. Here’s hoping she falls asleep again while studying…’
Rachel peered blearily at her Advanced Chem. notes, struggling to stay awake. The library was just so quiet, and she’d gotten almost no sleep last night. Her eyes drifted closed, and she dreamed…
I’m at the painting again. The girl is in it, kneeling in a white, almost Victorian nightgown, in front of the figure in the blood-red cloak. It is reaching out to her, and the look on her face is one akin to despair. From the trees behind her another figure watches, this one clad in a black cloak. Their faces are hidden, but I know them. Pain in the red cloak, Death in black… I scream…
“Keep it down!” someone hissed. Rachel looked around, then at her watch. it was already 5:00. Time to get home and get ready to party. The thought pleased Rachel greatly, it and the sleep she’d gotten put a spring into her step as she headed across campus.
She opened the door to darkness, and a hand stopped her as she reached for the light switch. “Follow me.” Instinctively Rachel followed, and jumped when three candles lit almost magickally, illuminating the painting she’d just dreamed about.
“Wh- where’d you get this?” Arms encircled her waist. “From your dreams,” Jade breathed. “Do you like it?” Rachel nodded, turning in Jade’s arms to face her. “Let’s dance,” she murmured from barely an inch away, ending with a deep kiss.

They entered the club once again about an hour later, pumped and ready to dance. They’d spent almost half an hour in each other’s arms before getting dressed and leaving for the club. “Why do they play so much Shakira here?” Jade wondered, and Rachel laughed. “It’s a mostly Latino club, Jade. I used to come here a lot, because of my heritage.” Jade led Rachel out onto the floor, managing to look seductive and lascivious even when simply walking.
That evening’s selection was Back In Black, and Rachel moved in a teasing circle around her lover, more comfortable this time since she was more experienced, letting what she felt for Jade fill her eyes. The expression led Jade into pulling the girl close and grinding their hips together. She then moved back and danced slowly in front of Rachel.
Rachel watched as she moved as well, admiring Jade’s skill and following her lead. A circle formed around them, and Rachel started to back out, but Jade captured her eyes and stared into them as she gently took hold of Rachel and led her in a dance that turned both girls on more than a little.
The world faded a little around the edges until it was just them, moving in perfect unison, and Rachel leaned backwards until her back was almost bent double at the waist. She stood back up, her hips sliding from side to side to the music. Jade smiled at her, heat and lust filling her eyes, and they slipped off the dance floor.
The drive home was almost unbearable for them both, and they were both happy to get home and into each other’s arms again, where they belonged.
The next morning Jade checked in with her father, who insisted that Jade stay there until both of their mortal lives had ended, then Rachel could join Jade and keep her from going back to her old sadistic ways. “I guess this answers my question,” Jade said.
“Question?”
“Whether the Daughter of Hell could ever love.” Rachel hugged her tightly. “And be loved,” she added. Jade laughed. “Yeah. Can’t forget that.”

Let The Times Roll

I don't think they're good ones...

I followed you through the valley
'Cause I didn't know any better
It doesn't help me now to know
You're as fair a friend as the weather...

We've only got a few seconds on the surface
Before we've got to dive back into the madnes below
I say seize the madness and let it strangle you
Since we've still got room to grow.

After all we only live a short time
And karma's a bitch in the end
So let's not worry about what comes after
'Cause we're not done here yet, my friend.

More Recent. Have you ever gotten a sense of longing, but you're not sure what it's for? ...Yeah.

To Be
Sweet sharp whispers
Sing their words to me
Telling of a place somewhere
I could never be.
Here and now is perfect,
So delicate you see
I’m longing in my heart for things
I could never be.
Running through the forest,
Dodging through the trees,
My soul is pulling far away, to
A body in which I could never be.
It’s so easy to forget,
The pain inside, you see
Pull the knife out, blood is red
Like I could never be.
It’s as if I’m not connected to
Anything, this sordid plea
For a world apart from this hell,
In which I’m condemned to be.
