Sorry you can't make it to SDCC,Linda.

What if Amber makes it to Birmihgham,AL to screen CHANCE? That should be announced late tonight or sometime tomorrow.Any possiblilty you could make that?

I bet a bunch of kittens will manage to make that one.

I'll be there come hell or high water!(Unless I get a job before that-I'm unemployed- and I get stuck working then, which would so totally piss me off! :mad ).

Janice

Edited to ask: Are there any of our "white, heteroseuxal male" kittens going to SDCC, partiularly the Q&A involving Joss?? I was thinking that if some foks who looked like JW were to ask him some of our questions and in front of our audience, that could be very telling.

Con Tickets

Postby hazeljoie » Wed Jul 31, 2002 3:54 pm

Okay, stupid question coming up. Consider yourself warned. How do you get the tickets for Saturday? I stopped by at the Convention Center today and asked just about everybody I saw but nobody seemed to have any clue about the tickets. I saw the Inkworks booth and it's right by the door. You can see it when standing outside. I got really excited thinking that Amber will be sitting there in a couple of days. Anyway, if anybody have info on tickets, please share? Thanks!

Friday SDCC Highlights

Postby Rally » Thu Aug 01, 2002 10:32 am

Here are the highlights for Friday, some are of specific BtVS interest, others might be just of general interest:

------

10:30 Novels from the Reel World–Best-selling novelists Peter David (Spider-Man), Andy Mangels, Michael A. Martin, Nancy Holder (co-author, Angel: The Casefiles), and Jeff Mariotte (Angel: Stranger to the Sun) discuss novels based on characters from movies and television. Discover what these writers of Star Trek, Buffy, Angel, Roswell, Charmed, and Babylon 5 novels have to say about playing in the sandbox of popular established characters. Room 16AB

Related Signings:

Andy Mangels, writer ("Reel World" Fiction Writers)

AA 3 Friday, 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

* Andy Mangels is the author of the Adovcate article Lesbian Sex = Death

Nancy Holder, writer (BVS: The Journals of Rupert Giles)

AA 3 Friday, 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

------

4:00 Columbia Pictures/Revolution Studios: XXX and Tooth Fairy–Last night Sony/Revolution screened XXX (which opens in theaters Aug. 9) for us and today Vin Diesel's co-star (and Maxim's current cover girl) Asia Argento will appear to greet fans and sign autographs. (Fans also know her as legendary horror director Dario Argento's daughter). Also, Emma Caulfield (Anya on Buffy) will be appearing in person to preview her upcoming horror/thriller Tooth Fairy: The Ghost of Matilda Dixon and answer your questions about the film. Producer John Fasano will be joining her. Room 20

Related signing:

Emma Caulfield, actor (Tooth Fairy)

AA 6 Friday, 5:30 – 7 p.m.

------

4:30 Writing Science Fiction and Fantasy–What sparks writers' imaginations to create stories of speculative fiction? How far does a work have to differ from our reality to qualify as sf or fantasy? Who determines the rules that govern imaginary worlds and their inhabitants? Just where does the difference lie between science and magic anyway? Seven of science fiction and fantasy’s finest discuss these questions and more: David Gemmell, whose fantasy novels have reached readers on three continents for nearly 20 years (Stormrider) is his most recent; Kevin J. Anderson, whose novels in 2002 include Hidden Empire: The Saga of the Seven Suns, Vol. 1, Dune: the Butlerian Jihad, Hopscotch, and Captain Nemo; Rebecca Moesta, Kevin J. Anderson's frequent collaborator, whose Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Little Things is the "hot off the presses"; Emma Bull, whose novels include the classic urban fantasy War for the Oaks. Will Shetterly, whose semi-autobiographical Dogland is newly available in Tor's Starscape edition; Peter David, whose recent works include Knight Life, Woad to Wuin, and Sir Apropos of Nothing; Hugo and Nebula Award–winning author Larry Niven, who created Ringworld and the Man-Kzin Wars among his varied universes; R. A. Salvatore (Transcendence); and moderator Maryelizabeth Hart, the publicity manager for Mysterious Galaxy bookstore in San Diego and co-author of two nonfiction companions to Buffy and Angel. Room 7B

Related signing:

Rebecca Moesta, writer (Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Little Things)

AA 2 /AA 3 Friday, 6 - 7 p.m.

------

5:30 Gays in Comics: Crossfire–This panel serves as a prequel to the 15th annual Gays in Comics panel (tomorrow at 5 p.m.). Itt spins off a hot topic from last year's GiC panel raised by DC editor Joan Hilty (who, although not attending Comic-Con, organized this panel and will co-host it in spirit). Is there such a thing as a "gay sensibility"? If so, how does it manifest itself in gay creators’ stories and art, and comics fandom? In a roundtable discussion staged talk-show-style, Sequential Tart's Denise Sudell splits the question into different aspects and lets six opinionated queer creators go at it: writer/artist Phil Jimenez (Wonder Woman, X-Men), writer Terrance Griep (Scooby Doo, Big Bang), award-winning writer/artist Eric Shanower (Age of Bronze, Oz Story Magazine), writer/artist Elizabeth Watasin (Charm School), artist/painter Jose Villarrubia (Veils, Alan Moore's ABC covers), and artist/animator Joe Phillips (The Heretic, Xodus USA). Room 16AB

Yay, Rally! I hope you and the Kittens have a great time at SDCC and at the same time make JW sweat even more. (Maybe Andy Mangels will be looking for you guys, instead of vice versa!:) ). Maybe you can get some answers from Emma.

Best of all, you get to see AMBER!!!! :bounce :drool :thud

If you get some really good pics of Amber, you might consider auctioning them for Trevor. I got 2 wonderful candids of Amber on eBay (paid $11ish for one, $20ish for the other, and they weren't even for charity!).

Amber Benson, who plays Tara on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, will be in the Inkworks booth on Saturday, August 3rd to meet fans and sign autographs.

Where the revolution was once simply women’s presence in the field, it has now become a much more pointed assault on the traditional treatment of more mature subject matter. Sex and sexuality, violence and brutality have undergone a fascinating transformation as scrutinized and reinterpreted by these brilliant artists. Please join us to hear Mary Fleener (Nipplez 'n' Tum Tum, Life of the Party, Hoodoo), Molly Kiely (Tecopa Jane, That Kind of Girl), Colleen Coover (Small Favors), Laurenn McCubbin and Nikki Coffman (XXX LiveNudeGirls), and Robyn Chapman (Theatre of the Meek, True Porn) in a conversation moderated by Jen Loy, ChickClick and Kitchen Sink editor-in-chief, on how these women decided that "Mature Comics" needed another look. Room 7A

------

5:00 Gays In Comics: Year 15 and Still Coming Out!–Celebrating 15 years at Comic-Con, this popular panel of cutting-edge gay, lesbian, bisexual, and even straight creators and publishers will cover all the bases. From publishing to writing to art to fandom, gays in the comic world are coming out strong. Featuring Andy Mangels, moderator, writer (Star Trek, Roswell); Darren Davis, publisher/writer (Tidal Wave Studios, 10th Muse, Legend of ISIS); Jai Sen, Xeric-winning publisher/writer (Shoto Press, Garlands of Moonlight, The Golden Vine); Devin Grayson, writer (Nightwing, X-Men: Evolution); Joe Palmer, webmaster (Gay League),Carla Speed McNeil, award-winning straight writer/artist (Finder); Rob Rodi (Codename: Knockout) and Chuck Kim, writer (Superman, Powerpuff Girls). Room 16AB

------

6:30 Gay Comic Fan Reception and Party!–Here's your chance to socialize with other gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered, or open-minded fans and creators. This party, sponsored by the Gay League, will include lots of fabulous door prizes, games, some truly fun video entertainment, and dozens of comic and animation pros. Room 16AB

We'll have a Buffy signing the next day with a bunch of the talent from the book, including the cover artists, the writers, and Cliff Richards, making his first ever San Diego appearance. Postby Iamyouknowyours » Thu Aug 01, 2002 2:05 pm

is anyone planning to give Joss a copy of the FAQ (so that next time he will be better educated and aware of the lesbian cliche, poor misguided man that he is) or should I step up and do the honors?

And he's getting a Got Tara shirt too, right? Whoever hands it to him just HAS to say "your shirt."

Let me know, so I know whether or not to bring it.

RE: so

Postby Lisa of Nine » Thu Aug 01, 2002 2:19 pm

I wouldn't give that *%$#@! a shirt if he were dying of exposure and I was buried under shirts and about to suffocate. If you give him anything, make it a strongly worded lecture on why he shouldn't lie to a maligned fanbase and get their hopes up ...only to dash them. He would probably show off his new shirt as proof that fans still love him. WEAR your "Got Tara?" shirt and tell him to enjoy watching Firefly crash and burn.

I think Amber was given a copy of the FAQ at Toronto Trek.

If that's correct, I would love for someone to ask her what she thought of it. But only if you all think that asking her opinion of the FAQ wouldn't make her feel uncomfortable, or feel that we blame her for the sorry mess that ME has made..
