After a two hour drive, an additional hour of searching for parking and over an hour more of waiting in line, I finally got inside the convention building. I was a little frazzled, but the promise of precious, precious Amber-time kept my spirits high. I caught up with my friend Rob, who goes to the Comic Con faithfully each year. He showed me around to the Buffy booth. Excellent. Supplied with an extra photo of Tara, I made my way to the line for tickets to see Amber. There in line I spotted a Got Tara? shirt, whose proud owner turned out to be Xita! I was thrilled to finally meet one of the driving forces behind my favorite message board. I identified several other kittens as well from their shirts. I of course was wearing my homemade "People for the Ethical Treatment of Tara" shirt, which got a few compliments from my fellow Buffy-o-holics. I reluctantly decided to skip the Joss Whedon Q and A, lest I lose my place in line and miss out on valuable Amber-ige. My buddy, who I knew longed to make his way to the Heman booth, stuck it out by my side. Amber, as always, was well worth the wait.
When she spotted me, she jokingly told me "long time no see," as I had been to see her in Algor Mortis about a month before. Hmmm... I hope she doesn't think I'm a psycho stalker or anything. I just enjoy being around her (she's such a dear) and I admire her as an actor and a writer. Not to mention she's a hot mama-yama.
Stoked that she remembered me, I gave her one of my Tara T-shirts, which she thought was cute. That earned me a hug. Woo-hoo. Amber-huggage. I got a picture signed for a friend who couldn't make it, which Amber commented was my good deed for the day. I also got her to sign my picture of the two of us in Santa Barbara. Amber said that the two of us looked cute in the picture! Swoon. My dear Amber, we could look that cute in real life too... If only. Curiously enough, she also commented that she was wearing the same pants in that picture as she had on today. They must be one of her favorites. No complaints here.
She complimented my friend for coming with me and being my camera person, and signed a picture for him too. He's not a huge Buffy fan, mostly watching the show for SMG. Still, he was impressed with what a sweetheart she was. "She was so nice!" He also commented that she was way thinner than he had thought. Ah well, I guess you can chock that up the "bad wardrobe."
Unfortunately, by the time I reached the Joss signing it was blocked off. I gave my letter (in which I told Joss how much Willow and Tara had meant to me and how much I NEEDED them alive) to one of the employees there who promised to try and give it to Joss. Ah well, I tried.
I also missed out on what I believe was the Clem signing (sniff, sniff), but managed to pass by the nice actor who played Luke and the Judge. He actually graduated form UCI, like I did. I got a signed picture and a photo with him, which was cool. Oh, and he liked my shirt too, although he asked me if my name was Tara! Apparently he isn't a regular viewer of the show. I forgive him. He's a working actor, right? And it's not like the Judge is coming back to life on the show any time soon.
All in all it was a good day.
BTW, if anyone is interested in one of the above mentioned T-shirts, please let me know. If there was enough interest, I was thinking I might sell a few of them and give the proceeds to The Trevor Project, since I am too broke to donate to it otherwise. Email me at
