Thanks for typing that up, and Chris is staying true to W/T. :heart

I think I will wait for this to come out in paperback. My money is kind of funny right now.

What is the timeline of this novel?

Tara: My heart doesn't stutter.

Tara: Willow, I got so lost.

Willow: I found you. I will always find you.

I was already going to buy this book.

Now I have moved it up to "must haves".

Chris SO get's it! I love the little spike jab as well.

Now I have this visual of Willow and Tara singing "Endless Love" together.

Thank you Chris Golden.

Hi

Any London kittens interested in Monster Island, it's in Forbidden Planet (New Oxford Street) discounted for £9.99. From what I've read so far, it's very good (definitely a must have WebWarlock).

The timeline doesn't seem to be given but it looks like early season six (I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong).

Cheers Chris:applause

Enjoy, I certainly am.

The Ferryman

Postby feena191 » Sat Mar 01, 2003 9:31 am

I know this is about a non-Willow/Tara related book, but I just wanted to mention another of CG’s recent books, from last year, The Ferryman, which Clive Barker calls “A powerful and haunting tale”.

Blurb from the back:

Quote:
Janine Hartshorn left David Bairstow for a man who abandoned her once he discovered she was pregnant with his child. A miscarriage almost ended her own life. Now she and David are reaching for a second chance.

But something is determined to keep them apart. Something with the power to conjure up ghosts from David’s past and make them real. Something Janine knows from her near-death experience...

I’ve started it & it is quite creepy. Anyhow the relevant part is that the best friend of the two main characters is a lesbian, & I’ve flicked to the end of the book (not read anything story-wise), and she’s still there – she’s survived! Which is cool in itself, because it's a cliche in some scary/horror books that the 'best friend' always dies.

Once again, yay Chris!

aw, thanks for the type up of excerpts! hope some more come out when other's read the book.

chris so gets it and i love it. W/T are soulmates and yes he's a kitten and he's like a published Pens writer. hehe...

i wont buy the book (dont want to give ME money though i wish i could just donate money to chris himself. lol. maybe i will.) but i do hope to perhaps rent it from the library. really doubt they'll have buffy novels there. doesn't hurt to try though.

"Take care of my heart, won't you please? Take care of it because it's all that I have. And if you let me, I'll take care of your heart too." Pure sweetness in the look between Willow and Tara.

Thank you so much for typing that up Feena and for the heads up about his other book.:) I shall buy them both as soon as I have the chance. I don't want to give ME a molecule of a dime, but at the same time I want to support Chris Golden and WT, not just because I love them, but also because this will be a feast to read.

in US stores now !

Postby Triscuit7 » Sun Mar 02, 2003 11:44 am

Since managing a bookstore is what I do in real life, I feel justified that I can shout out that IT is here now!

We received it on Friday (US east coast/Philly) and have sold out in just one day. Yay, Chris. I'll be re-ordering for my store, but other areas should be getting their initial shipments and putting them out in the next few days.

From what I understand, buying copies of "Monster Island" are fine for Chris, but buying copies of "Ferryman" help him out a lot more.

I have been wanting to read Ferryman, based on Clive Barker's words mostly but also on Chris himself, but I have to admit that the miscarage thing in holding me back.

But anyway. If you want to help Chris, buy copies of Ferryman and read Monster Island. I don't know if multiple-copies will send any sort of message, but I guess it can't hurt.

Plus if you are like me and don't want to support ME/JW with your dollars, (punts, Euros, pounds, marks, ...) keep in mind that most of the money for Monster Island goes to the publisher, not Chris (bad thing) nor Joss (good thing).

:applause yay for chris!!! as far as I'm concerned, this is pens being published. I am getting this for myself as a birthday present, since my birthday is next week (:applause 2nd yay!) thanks for typing up the quotes, feena, cuz now I don't have to worry about getting it and finding no w/t goodness. there's something extra-flamey about knowing that other people, non-kitten type people, will be reading this book and witnessing the amazing depth of love between our girls...I wish willow and tara had been around ten years ago when I was first coming out (I really cannot believe how wierd that sounds...but geez, I'm turning 24 next week!)

and how cool was that little "kitten" reference? chris loves us:heart

Now that it's official...

Hello Chris,

I have a question... and maybe it's too soon to say. Now that it is official that this is Buffy's last season on TV, will you continue to write Buffy novels and comics? I am an avid reader of tv-show tie-in books and I love it when they continue on after the show is cancelled - it keeps the characters alive. What are your thoughts?

I don't have any plans at the moment re: Buffy novels or comics, but that doesn't have anything to do with the show's cancellation and it doesn't mean I'll never do another Buffy book. Just crazy busy with other stuff.

Re: in US stores now !

Postby feena191 » Tue Mar 04, 2003 1:21 pm

I’ve finished them both :)

I really enjoyed Monster Island, but I think I like The Wisdom of War more, so if it’s a choice of one or the other, I’d go for TWoW. The three sections I quoted are pretty much the main Willow/Tara paragraphs, but there are more sentences scattered throughout which make their mutual feelings clear :love

I think Chris is definitely a romantic, he writes Buffy & Angel as star-crossed lovers whose “destinies were separate”. And he doesn’t like Spike ;)

MI reminds me (sort of) of Lord of the Rings – 3 groups, big battle (okay that’s LotR put simply). The main problem I think is inevitable from the fact it’s a crossover book – so many characters to take up story time (sounds a bit like the ShITS).

Giles, Anya & Dawn in Sunnydale; Buffy, Willow, Tara, Xander, Angel, Cordy, Wes, Gunn, Fred & Lorne in LA. Only Faith is missing. Tara does do things on her own, apart from Willow, which is really good, it’s so nice to see her doing her own stuff, instead of being how ME saw her – a Willow-appendage/cannon fodder.

The Ferryman is a brilliant book, I loved it. I thought it was really scary, if it was filmed it would be terrifying (to me). I’m such a wuss :)

And hey – straight sex and lesbian sex all in the same book ;)

I just read through the last few chapters of TWoW today. Wonderful! I can't go buy MI ... my birthday is coming up in 2 weeks and my gf assures me I can't buy myself anything until after my birthday, so we shall see what she has up her sleeve. If it's not MI, then I will be making my way over to Borders, the only store smart enough to stay open until midnight!

finished!

Postby xita » Thu Mar 20, 2003 12:20 am

So I finished this book. It started off well, with this immediate threat (demons wanting to destroy the half-breed demons). But it kind of went all over the place and I didn't enjoy it as much as say The Wisdom of War. That said it had some great w/t parts in it.

The gang is going to LA:

Quote:

"We're in," Willow said without preamble, with a tone and expression that would brook no argument.

Not that Buffy wanted to argue. "Good," she replied. "I think we're going to need that hoodoo that you two do so well."

The witches smiled at one another as though at some private joke. Buffy decided not to ask.

:rofl clueless buffy.

Quote:

The air was warm and humid. On the street outside Caritas there was a kind of unpleasant vibe to the atmosphere. And yet, as she and Tara hesitated at the top of the stairs leading down into the karaoke bar, Willow felt a sort of tranquility emanating from the place. There was a respite to be had here, and peace. Strains of a familiar tune drifted up, but she could not place its name.

"Morning Train," Tara said without needing to be asked. "Sheena Easton." She smiled and looked away, embarrassed. "I had the tape when I was little. It was one of my favorites."

Willow reached out and took her hand, giving it a gentle squeeze. "Between your Sheena and my Juice Newton, I think we make the perfect pair. Girls with sappy moms."

and later when w/t have been separated:

Quote:

Willow felt strange being away from Tara. As much as her girlfriend would have chided her for worrying, she could not dispel the anxiety that lingered in her mind. She didn't like being apart from Tara, especially in a situation like this. If they were going to face danger, Willow thought they should face it together. At least, that was how she would have explained it to Tara. The truth was lightly different She didn't want Tara facing any danger at all, ever, but if it was unavoidable, Willow wanted to make sure she was there when it happened.

"Worried for your lady love? a kind voice whispered beside her.

"Lorne stood beside her, gazing at Willow with those gentle eyes, and she smiled at him and nodded. It would be no use, she sensed, attempting to shield her feelings from him; even without the singing, Lorne could see right inside people.

"She'll be alright," the green-skinned demon assured her, "She's got Angel, Gunn, and your Slayer friend with her. Not to worry. They'll take care of her."

Willow smiled. "I know. But I want to be the one taking care of her."

:love

I think I'm gonna have to buy Monster Island and the Wisdom of War to get my non-kittens smoochies from W/T. Chris writes them so well.

Small aside, I wonder if the fact that Clive Barker is gay himself has anything to do with his better treatment of gay characters? I'm not suggesting that hee is biased, just that he is in the position to know the cliches all to well and avoid them as he sees fit.

I finished this book yesterday and my favourite W/T moment was the reunion on Questral (the island). It was about two pages long and near the end of the story, but it was really nice to read about them together.

I enjoyed Monster Island although I think that I still prefer Wisdom of War.

Thank you all for the recommendation. I also bought TWoW and will start that one tonight.
