Well, I had an absolutely brilliant time meeting kittens. That was truly the highlight for me. And of course, finally seeing Chance. I’ve had that damn script for eons now and I was just so happy the movie was as good on film as it was on paper. It was really awesome. I hope Amber et company are able to get it out there for all of use.

Having Amber recognise me after 2 years. Hearing her wonder how I could remember interviewing her and having the guts to ask for another brings me to my biggest highlight which was her saying yes. She's just. Well she's amazing. And so in the next few days (hopefully) a new kitten interview should be posted. Hopefully we asked worthy questions.

Oh, a new kitten interview – how cool. Reading this brought back a nice déjà vu of the first kitten interview with Amber. I can’t believe it’s been that long though – my how time flies. Thanks, Puff – looking forward to it! :D

The Chance script was sent as a gift to people who contributed money to the movie and later more were auctioned as part of the Chance fundraiser. It is not available online or in stores. It may take a little while longer but I am sure that Chance will be made available in one form or another. :)

Da Good Stuff...

Postby jsr » Thu Jun 12, 2003 10:15 am

Now that I am done bitching (for the moment) I can recount my highlights of MR. Here they are in no particular order:

Los Kittens

Xita, Garfield (who I had the pleasure of spending all week with. He's a great Kato Kaelin), Dri, Kathy, Amy, TK, Stef, Alexis, Sharon, Kim, Toni, Chris, and everyone else whose name I can't remember. Had lots of fun talks and giggles with these folks. They were a much welcome oasis in the land of caos. And the group viewings of "All My Children" were highly enjoyable. Especially the "who would you sleep with first..." debates that followed shortly after.

Barcardi O3

As a light drinker, I must say this is probably the best alcoholic beverage I've ever tasted. If anything could turn me into a power-boozer it's this. Highly recommended for any party.

Ms. Amber

This lady never disappoints. One class act -- the entire entertainment community should follow her lead. I asked her a question during her Q&A regarding Hollywood PA and she remembered who I was, recalling my CD and the chocolate I had sent to Mabby Jen that she and her mom mistakenly ate. I told her I had more chocolate just for her. I had brought two boxes of Godiva chocolate: One for Amber and one for her mom (long backstory as to why I needed to get back in Diane's good graces. If you want the whole story, search last year's toronto trek for my post.) At the autograph session the first thing Amber blurted out was "Hey you, where's my chocolate?" followed by a quick "Oh, I'm just kidding." It was really cute. So I handed her the chocolate and said, "Your Mom actually got the bigger box. I had to kiss her ass after last year's boob pic." To which she giggled and thanked me for the vittles. Then she said, "How do you spell your name again. A-N-D-R-E-A?"

Oops. Right girl, wrong name. But as you'll see this little faux pas clearly worked in my favor.:wink

I flashed Amber my badge and she was so embarrassed (poor thing). She kept smacking her forehead and saying, "Oh, my god I'm so stupid, what's wrong with me, I can't believe I called you the wrong name! I KNOW WHO YOU ARE! I've listened to your CD (part of the Mabby Jen backstory)!" She held her hand out in front of me and said, "Hit me, really hard." I was a bit dumbfounded. There was no way I was going to hit amber even in jest. So, I took her hand and very lightly kissed it. [God, I'm slick, huh?]

She smiled and apologized again. I told her that it was okay, REALLY, no big deal, that I'm not all that memorable and that's why I'm not in the entertainment business.

She said, "Oh that's not true." and hugged me. Hell for all this physical affection I was getting she can forget my name anytime.:banana

Then I asked her she would sign an ad I did for Henrietta Hudson (I want to frame the Mag with her sig). She said sure and told me the design was cool. I thanked her and she asked me what henrietta's was. I said it's a girl bar in NY if she was ever interested.

Then she told me how she and Chris hung out in lesbian bars in England and how much the sisters loved him. Chris (who is really fucking cool, btw) then chimed in and said that he had been knighted "big hairy lesbian". I told them that was my title too (sad to say). Around this time Kate had moved over in line to get things signed. That's when scary Julie Caitlin Beotch swooped in and ruined Kate's op to talk with Amber (but that's for the rant thread.)

So that was my minute and a half with Amber. Very short, but oh, so sweet. She remembered my name at Sunday's photoshoot. Poor girl looked totally knackered -- sick and tired and kind of frail. When I told her she was too skinny she told me she thought she lost three pounds that weekend. :shock Another testament to the fabulous food being served at MR.

Her Q&A sessions were cute and funny (and a little dirty) -- all the things I love about Amber. She is just amazing.

The Cows

There was a dairy farm around the corner from the Friar Suck. On the way back from the cultural center that is Rite-Aid, I stopped on the side of the road to pet the grazing cows. They were really cute -- I think Kate took pictures.

The Catskill Game Farm

Contrary to popular belief, this is not the Upstate NY version of a Turkey Shoot. It's actually a zoo that has been around for many many years (I remember going when I was like three years old.) Sadly, this once fabulous establishment has succummed to age and disrepair just like the rest of the Catskill region. But I did get to feed Giraffes and see itty-bitty baby piglets, which was pretty fucking cool.

Pizza Hut

No explanation needed. Yum.

Common Rotation

I really enjoyed thier music -- they're a very talented band and put on a great live show.

Chance

Like Dri, I had read this script a long time ago and was very anxious to see the final product. I had seen a couple of clips out of context, and at the time wasn't too floored by them. But the full movie really kicked. So funny and clever. I must say Amber did a great job with the editing. She cut out some of the lines that made Chance seem a bit too bitchy to be likable. The acting was really good -- much better than you see in most low budget indie films. For a first attempt, I don't think she could have asked for a better final result. Unfortunately I had to cut out before the Q&A (had to work the next day), but the movie was definately worth the 3 hours of sleep I only wound up getting that night.

When I think of more I'll keep adding,

:D

Highlights of MR?

Amber, ASH and James were great and all the fans that I talked with were great too.

I finally got to meet Amber!! Yay!!!

I got to thank her for a couple of photos she sent to me for participating in the fund raiser. She's got some memory. As soon as I put the photos on the table she remembered them, gave me a hug, signed the back of both of them and then told me to go talk to her mom and tell her who I was. The next day during the photo shoot she told me that she met my girlfriend and that I was very lucky (to which I agreed). Then she apologized for leaning on me for support (to which I replied It's ok, lean all you want) and I gave her a quick little hug. She is so sweet and I hope she comes back to the northeast again.

Also, I loved her re-enactment of Oz chasing Tara in NMR.

I really liked GoA and loved Chance.

Re: Da Good Stuff...

Postby Puff » Thu Jun 12, 2003 4:22 pm

Oh the Oz chasing Tara was all to do with flaring of the nostrils. Very funny. The anatomically incorrect wolf is how I believe Amber referred to it. In the whole chase scene Amber said that she was running from something that wasn't there as the put the wolf in afterwards...oh and then the guy who played the wolf asked her out on a date :lol

I believe this conversation came about because Amber was saying how much she was looking forward to working with Seth and Eliza on Buffy and then when she gets on set she doesn't really know anyone other than Aly. She said the others were dead or had left.

Amber's favourite episodes were OMWF, Restless (the cheese man cracked her up and she did a few impressions of him) and Hush although she mentioned the musical a lot and how much fun it was to do that.

We also heard the story about Amber running into the pole and how embarrased she was that they used that take (out of 23 others) and that loads of people noticed it. Apparently Amber was convinced someone (I think to do with the camera crew) would notice it as he always told her to stand up straighter. And she was like "no Tara would be standing huddled in a corner somewhere." Very cute.

In Barganning one of the bikers was supposed to have jumped over Tara from a ramp, but they never hired Amber a body double...she said no, Tara wouldn't be in the action, Tara would be far away from it, so they never filmed that bit.

Um I'm trying to remember more...

Amber talked about distribution for Chance saying that she will probably distribute it herself. Apparently film distributors can change bits otherwise and this is her project and she doesn't want it changed at all. She does want to make Chance acessable and affordable for everyone.

She was very ambarrased that people had seen Taboo but thinks that the new film she is in (although she's not in it much) is at least worth watching.

Amber talked about the reaction from her fans on Tara and said how wrong it was that people are judged for who they sleep with. She said that Willow and Tara were the only healthy relationship on Buffy. That got a huge round of applause.

If you wanted a disgusting souviner apparently you could go and remove some of the dead deer off of her car. Amber is a vegetarian and was very happy that she wasn't driving when it happened.

I talked to Diane (Amber's mum) at the autograph session and told her how happy I was that she was ok, she said she was glad Amber wasn't driving as well as she knew that Amber would have been devastated by it.

There were several minutes devoted to talk about throwing up. Hugging the toilet bowl and the things you think of to make yourself sick. I wasn't sure whether to be queesy or amused by some of the comments.

I'll try and think of more about the talks if you want.

Amber makes quirky joke like Tara, she said something on the first day about antibacterial soap. No one got it.

Amber would like James Marsters to do a guest spot on GoA.

Amber said she is a bad driver, red lights look green and visa versa, and pedestrians should not be on the sidewalk. They have buildings to go in.

Oh the deer hit their car. They did not hit the deer. Someone asked her if they killed the deer like on Buffy. Amber looked bemused by this. Aly did not want to do anything other than pet and love the deer on Buffy, even though it was animatronic.

In GoA they split the dialogue, Chris and Amber both wrote for all the characters. Athough they wanted to write Byron the most as they are both big perverts. Her words not mine.

In Chance when Simon spins around waiting for the microwave, that is something Amber did as a child. She never timed the pizza guy, but she wanted to.

The thing Amber was most excited about getting was her sister, she wanted her umbilical cord but the nurse took it. Amber does have all of her milk teeth though.

Joss's assistant still gets faxes about Tara. Amber joked that at least the faxes weren't all coming from her machine.

She felt fortunate to play Tara, to walk in her shoes and step out there and say "we're here. We're not going away". She thinks Aly feels the same way about playing Willow.

The only good thing about Taboo was that she got to see Europe for free.

Tara could not spin off onto Angel, she wouldn't fit in. She'd just get really annoyed with everybody "Why are you sleeping with..." Tara became the voice of reason when Giles left "You can't do that, well I don't know just because." And so on Angel she would be upset at "everyone sleeping with family members".

Amber didn't get the "you make me complete" part when she listened to it, in fact she didn't get it until she sung it. Aly teased her about that for ages.

There was a Restless impression of Giles "We've go to find Buffy." Very funny.

Amber thinks Willow and Tara gave Spike and Buffy a run for their money.

Amber said in Hush Tara gets to run around and fall a lot.

In the infamous and cut 'evils good' scene in seeing red everyone came down to "supervise that scene" Amber said she didn't want to go overboard but Drew Greenberg came over and said 'You can give a little more.' after one take...that one never made it.

She wanted to be a part of the movie (Latter days) that she was doing because it was important, if more people were out there then then wouldn't be so much fear of it.

Aly and Amber talked a lot before the first kissing scene, she got nervous and laughed a lot and said that Aly was like "Dude stop laughing" but after they talked they felt more comfortable in front of all those people. Amber said "But after it was our space, we looked at each other, she looks at me and I look at her...and her boyfriend watches." But by the end it became normal and they would talk about what they were wearing etc.

More teasing of the sign language lady "Spread beneath my Willow tree." and "You make me come.."

Amber was signing 'nice to F*** you' instead of 'nice to meet you' to people and the sign language lady had to stop her and change it.

I'll do more later :) I hope that everyone enjoys this so far.

So, the day started and I knew my name and had my pants on. So far, so good. Yay.

Re: Continued...

Postby Rosenberg » Thu Jun 12, 2003 7:16 pm

Let me see if I can try to focus on some positive aspects of last weekend's con. I'm sure if I think real hard I can come up with something even though it may be overshadowed right now by the generally unpleasant overall impression that still lingers in my mind.

I would have to say the best part of the weekend was getting to meet some of the kittens familiar to me from the board that I'd never had the opportunity to meet in person before. There were a lot of nice people I was able to spend time with who helped to make the weekend tolerable - Shula and Sandra, Tanya and Tracy, Chris and Kate and Helen and Lorna to name a few. I would also have to mention Janice and Lin from Long Island who said that I gave them a warm fuzzy feeling. Now, that was not my intention as all I was doing was just standing there, but if I was able to give someone a warm fuzzy then I guess the event wasn't a total waste.

It was also a pleasure to be able to see Chance again and Ghosts of Albion for the first time. I think I enjoyed Chance better the second time around. I was able to hear some of the dialogue that I missed the first time I saw it and I was able to pay closer attention to the construction and pacing of the film this time. I was very impressed by Ghosts of Albion and I hope this project will be continued. It really held my attention and I found the story to be both imaginative and interesting with characters I found appealing.

Amber, as always, was charming and considerate even under the influence of NyQuil and experiencing dead deer trauma. Even with a sore throat she managed to make it through a chorus of Wish I Could Stay which started out a little rough but turned out beautifully. She's a real trouper.

Chris Golden was another guest I was impressed with. The big hairy lesbian says what he thinks without pulling any punches and he has the courage of his convictions. Plus he's a talented and prolific writer with a devilish sense of humor.

I'm not sure if all of this makes up for the amount of money I paid out for this adventure, but it was an experience I will not soon forget. Oh, and last but not least, I had the world's greatest roomie. Thanks for putting up with me; you're the best.

Puff, thank you for an awesome recounting of Amber's Q&A. Hearing (well, reading, really) what she feels and what she thinks and how she recalls things just makes me love her even more.

jsr, very suave move with the hand kissing. And how lucky were you to spend so much time with Amber. All of your exchanges with her -- I'm so jealous. Although I'll admit, if I ever met her, I'd be the biggest blithering idiot on the planet. I don't know how to act like a normal human being when I meet someone I admire so much.

Everyone else, I just have to say I love the interaction you all have with eachother. It's just so darn cute. Hopefully one day I'll be able to come to a Kitten event and partake in the comraderie.

Amber really is a wonderful lady, but I'd like to give her most of the credit for that, with the best possible parents some people still turn into shitty adults and vice versa.

Anyway, I've managed to get two clips of the first two questions from saturday's Q&A on my computer. I only need to get them uploaded and then I can post them. I forgot to bring a new tape that first day so I missed the 5 minute question about the last season of that show and her reply that took far less time and which went something like "frankly, I didn't watch it. It was depressing. If I wanted to be depressed I'd watch say Bridget Jones' diary like ten times." (this is no discussion, just the best reply I could have hoped for).

Unfortunately, I also didn't tape her wonderful explanation about how Aly made her feel comfortable to do the more intimate scenes, and it worked really well, but oddly enough she seemed to have forgotten Aly's instructions when she was shooting Taboo, hehehe. I did get the entire second Q&A, except the last few minutes darn it, so I'll try and get a few highlights from that one.
