I'm a big fan of Lena Headey. One of the first things I saw her in was Band of Gold on ITV. It was a series about prostitutes in Bradford. No, really, it was. Heh. Since then, Lena's been in several great movies, including Gossip, which I loved. She's absolutely wonderful, and has these amazing eyes and a really expressive face.

Another actress I like is Susan Lynch. Again, really versatile and wholly underused on tv and in film, I think. There's a great site called Alternative Hollywood that focuses on the more obscure actors and actresses. It's got some great pictures of the lovely Susan on it, and a lot of other talents that you see a lot but wonder "who's that?". :)

Ruth, I think I have said before that I think Lena Headey is lovely.

I am a big fan of Laura Fraser. A scottish actress who was in a number of Channel 4 and ITV TV drama's. She also appeared in Virtually Sexuality (bad fillm) and Kevin & Perry Go Large.

Jordana Brewster

Postby themagicpixie » Mon Apr 14, 2003 8:44 am

May I spread the word about Jordana Brewster, who is absolutely drop-dead gorgeous in "The Faculty" (I thought so anyway, but I had to fancy someone in that film in order to deal with my gayboy friend screaming down my ear how hot Elijah Wood and Josh Hartnett were).

I always had a crush on Sela Ward "Teddy" from Sisters.

Also on Lori Springer, who I think was in Tank Girl.

I added Mindy (or Melinda ) Clarke - she is wonderful in SOF series as former CIA Margo Vincent. She was nice as Velasca on Xena and at Spawn.

Next actresses is (ok she is not only actresses) is Anna Falchi - she was great in mini-tv series Pirates as Livia.

Its more here but I dont remember now :(

What about Megan Follows? She was wonderful as Anne Shirley in the Anne of Green Gables mini series but not quite so good in Silver bullet and I haven't seen her in anything since. :sob

Tilda Swinton, really swooonton for me. I love her. She works and works and really doesn't get any recognition. Two movies of interest might be Orlando and Female Perversion.

Toni Colette is also fantastic. Part of the reason I think she's ignored is that she changes so much no one knows it is her. From Muriel's Wedding to The Sixth Sense, who can really say that's the same person. She was so different in The Hours, I was confused at first. No one told me she was in that, it would have made me go faster. She's also in a lesbian short film called "This Marching Girl Thing."

Yes Toni Colette IS fab, as is her Muriel's Wedding co star Rachel Griffith. I know she's doing well in Six Feet Under now, so possible not obscure enough for this thread!! Both actresses are VERY versatile.

One of my favourites is Christine Lahti, who was is a wonderful small fil called Housekeeping some time back. She also popped up in Chicago Hope.

Also Mary McDonnell - best known for Dances with Wolves, but BRILLIANT in one of my favourite films, Passion Fish.

I adore Joanna Gleason who is a Broadway actress. She was The Baker's Wife in Into the Woods. I see her on television every now and then.

I also really liked Adrienne Wilkinson who played Eve on Xena. I'm a bit smitten with her.

She's my everything!

I had to go do a search because Lena Headey's name was familiar. She was in Possession!

Ok then :)

Which reminded me of Jennifer Ehle. I guess she counts as obscure. Which is too bad, because I think she's great.

WiccansIllusion, you're probably thinking of Lori Petty which reminds me of a formerly obscure actress I lusted after since she appeared as a super hot british tomboy in the same movie. Naomi Watts.

Oh yea!:drool

Formerly obscure doesn't count though. Wish I could think of someone to add...

I usually only like actresses that are really obscure...the list is long, but distinguished ....

From across the pond...

--Olivia Williams...my love for her is well-documented on other message boards...best known for playing Rosemary Cross in Rushmore...ok, so she's not THAT obscure, but she seems to have dropped off the radar a bit now that Connie Nielsen is getting all the roles that she SHOULD be getting.

--Emily Mortimer...absolutely adorable... best know for her role in Lovely & Amazing and the crap-fest that was Formula 51.

--Tara Fitzgerald...I loved her in Sirens and this movie called The Prince of Hearts where she attempts a Brooklyn accent...

--Catherine McCormick...one of the true injustices in the world (or well in the Entertainment biz) is that she isn't a bigger star... best known for playing Mel Gibson first wife in Braveheart, but she her best role check out in Dangerous Beauty

--Joely Richardson...ok, so her mother is Vanessa Redgrave and her sister is Natasha Richardson, but Joely deserves a career right up there with the rest of her family... her performance in Sister, My Sister is one of the best I've seen.

--Keira Knightley...I just have four words Bend it Like Beckham!

--Justine Waddell...unfortunately her most known role in the US is Dracula 2000, but after seeing her in Wives & Daughters... she is all sorts of awesome.

Viva La France...

--Irene Jacobs...she is in one of my favorite films of all time Three Colors: Red...

--And the entire cast of 8 Women (besides Catherine Deneuve who is nowhere near obscure)

In the States and On-screen...

--Hope Davis...she has found a home acting in Stanley Tucci's films and just starred as Jack Nicolson's daughter in About Schmidt.

--Judy Greer...her biggest role has been in The Wedding Planner as J-Lo's best friend.

--Sarah Paulson...I just like her because she played a cute lesbian in The Other Sister

--Judith Hoag...she does TV commercials nowadays, but I know her fondly from my childhood as April from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

On the Tube

--Julie Bowen...Carol Vessey from Ed... ahhhhh...

--Elisabeth Rohm... of course Kate from Angel... after watching season one on DVD, I can't believe Joss let her slip through his fingers...now on Law & Order

--Amy Carlson...and finally... I loved her on Another World and now I watch Third Watch every monday hoping to catch a glimpse of her... and for christ sakes, why don't they make her character gay on that show????

I've had a 'thing' for years for Georgia Mackenzie. Does anyone remember the short lived 'Border Cafe' ? - * in that obscure corner of England where Lancashire, Cheshire and North Wales border one another*

Also: Siobhan Redmond who 'came out' in 'Between the Lines [aka sheets]'

I rather like Dawn Steele too. [the best thing about 'Monarch of the Glen']:p

Laura Fraser... Loved her in Titus. BTW, she played Helen Baxendale's lover in The Investigator.

Ana Torrent... I had dated her worshiper for a while and infected. 20 years ago, she was the most beautiful creature in the film history. She is still nice (her last intenational hit was Tesis) but you have to see her older movies.

Embeth Davidtz... Matilda is a romance movie to me.

Tran Nu Yên-Khê... Anh Hung Tran's wife. Just love her face.

Justine Waddell... She was so cute in Wives and Daughters!

Sheila McCarthy... She is a Canadian's answer of Giulietta Masina.

Mischa Barton... Lost and Delirious!

Maria Schrader... Aimée & Jaguar, Meschugge, Der Unfisch and the adorable Keiner liebt mich...

Lysette Anthony-otherwise known as the babe from "Krull."

I have to second the nods to:

Lena Headey-also in an early episode of "Ballykissangel."

Tara Fitzgerald

Kate Beckinsale-well known after the cinematic travesty of "Pearl Harbor" but not beforehand.

Catherine McCormack

Kiera Knightley

Kelly Macdonald-"Trainspotting" I do love a woman in a British schoolgirl uniform.

Laura Fraser-in the dire BBC adaptation of Neil Gaiman's "Neverwhere."

-Rosalind Chao ("Joy Luck Club.")

-Catherine Keener ("Your Friends and Neighbors," "Being John Malkovich.")

-Patricia Clarkson ("Far from Heaven," "Six Feet Under," "High Art.")

-Edie Falco (I know she's not obscure anymore, but she's so incredible as Carmela Soprano that I have to mention her.)

-Catherine O'Hara (recently on "Six Feet Under.")

-Alison LaPlaca (has done a lot of TV, including a show that featured Ellen DeGeneres as a receptionist.)

-Ming-Na Wen (Joy Luck Club, Mulan, E.R.)

-Dana Delany (Especially in "China Beach.")

-Jane Wyman (Yeah, she's way old and was married to Reagan, but she was a hoot as the conniving matriarch of the Falcon Crest winery.)

-Jan Hooks (On "Saturday Night Live," she was hilarious as Nancy Reagan.)

-Christine Lahti (Previously mentioned. Swoon.)

-Barbara Bain (From the original "Mission:Impossible" series. Especially in the wearing-nothing-but-a-towel scene.)

-Pamela Sue Martin (Had a huge crush on her when she was Nancy Drew.)

-Doran Clark (Played a pilot in "Emerald Point NAS." Sigh. Women in uniform.)

-Cynthia Stevenson ("My Talk Show.")

-Rita Wilson (More than Mrs. Tom Hanks.)

-Lori Petty (Robin in "Relax-It's Just Sex.")

eta most of these are not very obscure. it's more like a "whatever happened to....?" list. my bad.

It'll be the train, Walter, just the way you want it. Straight down the line.

Lysette Anthony is now in a truly awful soap on late during the week called Night and Day. Also in it are Glynis Barber (whom I've crushed on for years and she gets better looking as she gets older) and Cathy Tyson. How the mighty have fallen, eh?

And whilst we're talking about Ballykissangel (which we weren't, but y'know...) how about Dervla Kirwin? She's not only hot but has that whole smouldering looks thing. Yum.

I thought of some more, Kerry Fox, star of loads of TV dramas and Shallow Grave. Also Sara Todd who actually looks very similar to Kerry, but she was in Playing the Field, Holding on and the UK Version of Queer as Folk.

She's also been in Absolutely Fabulous and was in Press Gang once upon a time.

Poppy, I too like Lisa Coleman. And yeah, the shame of watching Casualty to see her in her nurse's uniform. Sigh. But then, I have to confess to watching the show for Holly as well. She used to play a lesbian in Family Affairs before they killed the whole family...

But I can't remember her name.

Ruth, the actress is called Sandra Huggett. I'm not sure if you meant her name or the character's name in Family Affairs . I managed to resist the temptation to watch Family Affairs just because they had a lesbain storyline. If I'd have known it was her, maybe I would've though...

I have to say that Mili Avital is an obscure actress that makes me all melty. She played Scheherezade in the TV version of "Arabian Nights".

Then there's the usual suspects:

Renee O'Conner

Dana Delany

Erin Grey (remember "Buck Rogers"?? ;) )

Eliza Dushku

Piper Perabo *rwowr*

Molly Price (Faith Yokas on "Third Watch"....don't ask me why but she makes me mushy...must be the tough chick stuff)

I totally crushed on Megan Follows for YEARS *sigh* Too bad she had to sully my image of her with the hideously stereotypical portrayal of a lesbian friend to Dr. Legaspi in ER.

I ADORE Toni Collette

Melinda Clarke (natch)

Ashley Judd (what an odd choice)....

If I think of any others I'll post them :grin

Time flies by when the Devil drives.
