The Absolutely Fabulous Thread

Postby concrete » Sat Oct 18, 2003 3:55 am

Not a very fabulously original name for this thread but there you go. I had no idea they were even making new episodes so I was pleasantly surprised. The ep yesterday was very funny, as you would expect from such professionals. And.... can I just say that Emma Bunton could have a career in sitcoms! Or maybe in this particular comedy 'cause she held her own in this one. And a great plot for Saffy we got here. We should be in for some ranting and raving from Edina as soon as she truly realizes what this means for her. A good start!

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.

Even though the sound of it is something quite atrocious. ...

Oh we should probably be careful about spoiling people about Saffy, making them curious should be mean enough. :grin We can use the spoiler code.

I didn't know anything about new eps either. This is all of the good. It was a very funny ep and let's face it, even the least funny AbFab eps still beat most other comedies hands down. Ok, so I am totally biased and that statement is not based in any kind of scientific fact, but I am right anyway. :p

I am watching s2 on DVD now. It's been so long since I have seen the eps that they are quite new to me again and now we have actual new eps which is even better. :party

I heard about Saffy.

*rubbing my hands together with glee*

I can't wait to see this series!

This show is probably my favourite comedy of all time. And maybe it's why I like Will and Grace. Jack and Karen are a strange sort of version of Patsy and Edina.

Emma Bunton? Is that Baby Spice? Interesting!

So, favourite episodes?

Off the top of my head I have to go with France, Fat, and Morocco.

Ooh, and the newer one in Paris when Patsy's on the photo shoot and Edina takes Saffy around. That Eiffel Tower bit is priceless!

Oh, new eps!! I hadn't heard.

I love this show - it may be my all-time favorite sitcom. I'd say Morocco, Hospital, France, and Death are my favorite eps.

You all made me look up the Saffy spoiler with Google. I was kind of hoping she was gay. Oh well, this should be fun too! :)

Well, I read that Series Five of Absolutely Fabulous is kicking off in early 2004 on Oxygen (which I don't get) and on the Comedy Network in Canada. Don't know if it will be on Comedy Central in the US.

While we're waiting for G to cough up the full spoilers, you can see a brief description of the first few eps of the new season here (scroll down to the bottom)

Wtf? *You* said you did not want to get spoiled. :miff

Should I even be bothering with spoiler codes now, seeing as the previous link provides the big spoiler already? I'll do it anyway, unless everyone does not mind getting a wee bit spoiled, then we can just stop doing that.

Ok so for those who have not checked out the link and want to hear it anyway:

When Saffy and Edina are alone, Edina starts taunting Saffy for having gained a bit of weight. At the end of her rant when she has 'justified' her own weight she yells "what is your excuse?" That's when Saffy tells her she is pregnant. Edina's first reaction was definitely not what I expected and therefore all the funnier. You just have to see that for yourself. I am sure her second reaction will be more hysterical (literally), especially after Patsy finds out. I can't wait to see that. :grin

Oh and the way Edina gets herself a tan is priceless. :laugh

It is not spoiling anyone to say that this Spice girl was really really *good*. In fact she was fantastic, and I hope she will become a recurring character.

What was funny as well in this episode was that Edina missed Saffy because acting like a lazy naughty basket case was not as much fun without Saffy there to chastise her. I think Patsy, despite her protestations, missed her too. They have such great chemistry together, they love to hate each other I think.

Morocco is brilliant. That's why that season 4 paris episode works too, Saffi abuse... it's just too good. When Patsy and Edina spot Saffi in her new owners. :rofl

so funny

I've been doing my homework while having an AB Fab Marathon. I hope to catch all seasons by the end of the day lol. I am hoping the new eps will show up on usenet soon.

It looks like this is really going to be a great season. I loved ep 2 as well, the book club bit was my least favourite. I wanted more Saffy time, the rest was great...Edina's nightmares and that mean midget lady midwife. :laugh Oh and the ending was brilliant yet again.

Re: Absolutely Fabulous new eps

That midget midwife cracked me up as well; her line “I was so long in labour they had to shave me twice” was just too funny. Edina’s “book-club” consisted most of reading “Hello” magazine and commenting on the celebs in it. I thought that was rather funny actually.

The whole ep had me laughing out loud. And how on earth Saffy hooked up with this wellmeaning nitwit is beyond me. He and Edina certainly have the same view on physical appearance (being fat) and how to explain such! And Edina’s “Chanel among babies” and “Ultimate accessory” –just priceless, so yes: we are certainly in for a fabulous season! Why Chanel and why ultimate accessory? Saffy’s sperm-donor, as Edina so subtly described him is a black man! In a dream Edina was prancing around like a deluded rasta-woman. She was ecstatic because she feels this is sooooo exotic!

I certainly hope they keep up the quality of the oneliners and jokes, somehow I’m not worried about that :)

If you're wondering why the audience reacted to her like that, it's because that wasn't just any midget midwife, that was wee Jimmy Krankie. I guess the Krankies aren't very known outside Britain, but they were huge kids tv stars during the '80s with their act where she played a naughty schoolboy, and her husband played the dad (which sounds really weird now).

I seriously doubt that the Krankies are known at ALL outside the UK.

I only just watched this episode, I totally forgot about it, but thankfully dear old mum had taped it :)

What made me laugh most was the Don't Look Now parody in the first dream Edina had, that's one of my favourite films. Jennifer Saunders ALWAYS seems to be doing parodies of films/tv shows I love.

Thanks for the info on the evil midget midwife, hehehe, I had never heard about the krankies. So this friday's episode really cracked me up almost from start to finish. Last week had been rather disappointing, but this week was great again. Emma Bunton was back and I really really like her and Titikaka was hilarious. :laugh I hope they will both be back, preferably in the same room.

No Titikaka this time, I guess the police must be keeping her locked up for now. :p Still, it was a fabulous wacky episode. Watching Saffy's water break all over Patsy is reason enough to buy the DVD when it comes out. :grin I was hoping the evil midwife would be there but having Edina "assist" with the delivery was just as good. I wonder how long it will take Eddy's tiny ex-husband and his crazy wife to realize they stole the placenta instead of the baby. :laugh

Okay, I was poking around, trying to find out when this is going to air in the States, and there's all kinds of conflicting information. Supposedly, though, it's going to be on Oxygen. Their AbFab section says "Stay tuned for all-new episodes of Absolutely Fabulous, coming soon and only on Oxygen!"

I read that it was supposedly going to start airing in January, but that the page had been changed recently and now it just has that "stay tuned" message instead. It's odd.

I need my AbFab. :cry

ETA: Watch Oxygen’s all-new episodes of Absolutely Fabulous, Friday nights at 9pm/8C beginning January 2, 2004.

Oxygen is also airing eps on Sundays (9am & 10:30pm ET), Mondays (6pm & 8pm), Tuesdays (11am), and Saturdays (12pm). I don't know if it's only this week or every week though.
