Groomsmen, Charisma's new lesbian movie role

Postby ChibiWillowR » Sat Aug 03, 2002 8:23 pm

Hey Guys ^-^

I came across this today on this aol celebrity page and thought i'd share:

<< #10 Charisma Carpenter

"Angel" Star to Enjoy a Shower of Success?

This talented performer has attracted audiences nationwide in her role as Cordelia Chase, first on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," and now in the spinoff series "Angel." However, reports suggest that in Carpenter's upcoming movie, "Groomsmen," the compelling television star will portray someone who is anything but an angel.

"Groomsmen," described as a cross between "American Pie" and "There's Something About Mary," features Carpenter as a woman who carries on a heated affair with a female postal worker. The film reportedly comes complete with a shower scene that would make any angel blush, and which will undoubtedly leave Carpenter admirers clamoring for a movie ticket. And for the woman whose parents named her after an Avon perfume, the role could finally bring Carpenter the sweet smell of box-office success.

So, would this captivating star prefer to be an angel or a vampire? Carpenter told Maxim UK that "without a doubt, it would have to be a vampire. They live forever, have a lot more fun, and let's be honest, the cape is a hell of a look." >>

She also said this about the movie in a Maxim interview earlier this year...

Quote:
Ok, in your latest film 'The Groomsmen' you appear naked with a woman. Admit it, you enjoyed the experience, didn't you?

Oh, I loved it! I play the lead character who has an affair with the postman. And yes, there's a scene where we're both naked in the shower and a lime green dildo is involved. I'm terribly shy so doing nude was quite a problem for me. I made them close the set because although ten million people might eventually see me naked in that scene, I just needed to feel comfortable and relaxed for that moment. But because the other girl was naked too, I felt much better about the whole thing.

She's incredibly shy and has a problem with nudity?

Uhm.. heh, really, that's something I never would have thought.

She seemed shy with clothes on, who knows how bad she would be when they are off :) Echoing the call for a date of this movie release.

:thud

Maybe that's why there's been a stange silence about CC's return to Angel as well as Amber's return to Buffy but-not-as-Tara-or-if-Amber's-available.

Maybe Joss has a major problem with the women he works with not minding playing women who are involved with other women. Then, he (Joss) isn't in complete control. They don't "need him."

Just a rambly thought.

Joss did recently say that Charisma was a big part of the heart of the show, or some such I'm-about-to-kill-her type of comment. I've already gone on record at one board saying she only has a 50-50 chance of surviving the season.

Gosh, haven't we heard the phrase " big part of the heart of the show" somewhere before? That sounds really familiar.(insert sarcasm font).

Wow, sounds like a fun movie ;)

I have some difficulties to picture Charisma as a lesbian, so i'm even more curious about it...

So, anyone knows when we'll be able to see it?

I don't have much of a problem to picture any woman I think to be attractive as a lesbian, but maybe that's just me ;)

Now I am somehow strangely interested in knowing how this movie will end, the two movies it is being compared to are comedies, so dare I hopw it won't end in disaster? I really like Charisma Carpenter, so this movie I would really like to see, and that has nothing to do with tasteful shower scenes, no sirree.

This defnitely sounds worth seeing, and I've always liked Charisma, but do I bother considering taking issue with this line

Quote:

Is she not an angel because's she's a lesbian? Or am I over-reading, and she's not an angel because she's playing with lime green dildos in the shower?

It's a fair question.

Ah yeah Tullip, I noticed that line, it can be interpreted both ways you suggest, but I feel it's just a bit of a cheesy word play on Angel. I'll bet there will be future articles which will be less subtle.

I'd say angels in general don't do much naked stuff and games in the shower. Don't think that's indicating moral jugement.

I haven't seen Charisma in anything but BTVS or Angel so it will be a bit weird to watch her in a different role, but I'll struggle through!

I wonder when she made it? Maybe when she disappeared for a few episodes...but I really hope that's not why she came back with scary blonde hair :eek

Little info

Postby Sarah Bennett » Sun Aug 04, 2002 6:21 pm

Hi all.

I read several months ago that The Groomsmen was filmed in South Africa, and was finished, but was for some mystifying reason.....awaiting wider distribution.

I get the impression that it's on the shelf somewhat. It was filmed in 2001.

A quick check here reveals that at least one person has now seen it, so at least it exists. But details are pretty scarce. I haven't seen a single pic.

It sounds like a a sex comedy, maybe like American Pie or something. But I still wouldn't mind seeing Charisma in it :)

ciao,

Sarah.

Postby Crafty Grrl » Mon Aug 05, 2002 3:24 pm

i found this at imdb.com, and somehow, it makes me dread seeing the movie. movies that are "required watching" in frat houses usually do not take the most positive view on queerness...

Date: 13 March 2002

Just saw the premier screening and laughed through the entire movie. The cast has delivered an understated/over the top performance, and the writing & directing delivers the one of those ultimate male fantasy/nightmare stories around the backdrop of a tender love story. This film moves along at a frantic pace and is loaded with the kind of humor and action that every red-blooded American male will enjoy. It is a film you can take good humored, liberated date to. And my guess is that "The Groomsmen" will be required viewing in every frat house.

Thats great for Charisma I guess, odd role for her. But Im happy to hear she's doing other things! During hiatus shes always visiting family so this is a good chance to shed her role as Cordy!!

There's so much to work through. Trust has to build again... on both sides. You have to learn if you're even the same people you were, if you can fit into each other's lives. It's a long and important process and can we just skip it?

Well, if the shower scene is everything we think it could be, then I can see why it would be required viewing in every frat house. And what would the ultimate male fantasy/nightmare consist of if not getting to see on a big screen two beautiful women getting together without any need of a man? Does anyone know who the woman playing opposite Charisma is?

I think it's Jennifer Gareis. I think I read an article that mentioned her as being involved in the shower with Charisma or something.
