Ok...a list of my most hated movies...

Autumn in New York...Winona Rider and Richard Gere?!!! :puke

Sweet November...my God, I was so pissed at the end of this movie...I swear I lost 2 hours and 2 million brain cells. Keanu, great in the Matrix, sucks as a dramatic actor.

Maid in Manhattan...just another reminder why I don't watch Jennifer Lopez movies. I about fell asleep 3 times. And whoever thought of Ralph Fiennes as the leading man in what's supposed to be a romantic comedy? HAHAHAHA...I guess it was funny, but not in the way they intended. My pasty white chest has more of a tan than his.

Blair Witch Project...GOD, GOD, GOD...the biggest piece of junk, waste of time ever. There was nothing scary AT ALL, and all they did was stumble around all pissed off screaming obscenities for 80 minutes. I think I was more scared watching Darkness Falls...which isn't saying much. And, oh, the topper, being treated to watching snot stream out of Heather Donahue's nose. Ooh baby! :puke

I don't HATE My Big Fat Greek Wedding...but it certainly wasn't this gut-busting laugh-fest that everyone told me it was. I didn't see it in the theatre, but I bought the DVD...fucking waste of $15.

Hmm, yeah that's why it's fun. Wonka is mean, and god I love every second of it. His halfhearted attempt to get help for Augustus. :lol :rofl Funnier than funny.

Now about Chasing Amy. I figured it was just more Kevin Smith dribble, but I guess it is a true story based on himself and a girl that left him. He was the Ben Afflect character.

I read that it was based on Guinevere Turner, who at the time was showing gofish at sundance and he was showing clerks. He came on to her but she wouldn't give it up so he wrote chasing amy as a sort of revenge. On the other hand I have heard certain gossip about Guin so who really knows what happened. Either way, Chasing Amy sucked, it has an awful confusing message I just don't get. I liked clerks and dogma, but that's about it for Kevin Smith.

Worst movies, I am having a hard time thinking of things I really hated. I can tell you I am don't like any star wars movie, or indiana jones movies. Bleh. And any movie with Michael Douglas gets a definite 0 on my ratings scale. I cannot stand that man anymore. I think I could tolerate him at one point in the eighties not anymore.

Oh I know a recent movie I hated. I despised , hated , loathed "Gangs of New York." What a crappy movie. And it's so long, those are 3 hours I want back. There was nothing good about this movie. Nothing.

Thinking of bad movies made me think of bad books, but that should be another thread :p

aw, but chasing amy has some great, memorable lines! LOL, how about the conversation about whether or not a woman can *ahem* another woman? Thats a really interesting linguistic debate few have had the nerve to discuss till chasing amy....or the Archie and Jughead comments? or "whats a nubian?" LOL, or the who will get to the dollar bill first, santa claus, the easter bunny or the male-fantasy lesbian rant? haha...well, i guess i'm just in the camp that thinks sexuality..especially in film, art and literature, etc...shoudnt be so heavily dichotomized. I personally dont think its should be so odd that a lesbian could fall for a man at one point in her life or a straight man could fall for another man...you never know where life will lead you :peace

Aw...but Indy Jones flicks are classics! thats like hating the original back to the future

you know which flick I didnt hate, but I did find incredibly boring? The English Patient :sleep

I can't remember the particulars of that conversation but I remember that it disturbed me, something about it was not the way women would to each other about it. I think there are better movies that talk abou those things and don't trivialize sexuality the way this movie does.

Re: Bad Movies.

Postby BeatNikJackie7777 » Sun Apr 13, 2003 5:15 pm

Well it is interesting, because the verb to f**k (i'm not sure if we can write this like this) is very often reserved as an action for men in the common vernacular....not that woman dont use the word of course, which is what makes it interesting...thats the discussion they have

I can think of so-called "lesbian" movies that werent so hot..."better than chocolate" talk about a script that just missed being good...it had a few little things that you remember about it but for the most part the dialog was flat, the romance was forced and the gay bookstore vs hateful town was such a cliche! Go fish was marred by some pretty terrible acting at certain points.

On the other hand, I found Kissing Jessica Stein to be a very witty, enjoyable film and yet the character ends up with a guy...is that ok just because they refrained from calling her "gay" throughout the movie? labels suck anayway.

interestingly, guinevere turner was in "chasing amy"...small cameo as a singer in the club...she was also in dogma...small cameo as well...and kevin smith named a character in mallrats after her...

Well why would think that when I was speaking of lesbian movies I was talking about "Better than chocolate," which I really didn't like at all. I also enjoyed "kissing jessica stein" I believe they had a better idea of sexuality as it concerns women than did Kevin smith. They were 2 good examples of how fluid sexuality is and how it can lead women into different paths. Chasing Amy had no balance... no contrast, it was all very convoluted.

Bad Movies

Postby darkmagicwillow » Sun Apr 13, 2003 6:22 pm

It looks like my favorite SF movies aren't doing too well on this thread. Blade Runner and The Matrix are my two favorites, though Minority Report is trying to edge its way into the top slot. I'll have to watch it again to decide. Terminator's solidly in there too. All four movies have a wonderful SF setting, which is so difficult to get right on film, and their science is generally good enough to not shock me out of my suspension of disbelief.

For movies I hate, there's all the Star Trek movies, with the exception of the second one. The second Star Wars trilogy is giving them some competition for lack of quality these days though. The Dune movie is down there too. I actually hate most SF movies, though I love written SF. They just butcher the ideas when they put them on screen, so I get annoyed when people tell me that they hate SF when they've only seen Star Trek.

For Kevin Smith, I liked Clerks and Dogma, hated Jay and Silent Bob despite the presence of our lovely Faith, but didn't really feel much one way or the other about Chasing Amy.

For tomato movies, I loved Return of the Killer Tomatoes. It had just the right balance of silliness without ever getting too stupid, which was the problem with Attack for me.

I saw Chasing Amy in the theater when it came out and, while I found a few lines funny, I was mostly offended and confused by its messages. But what I remember most about Chasing Amy was that one weekend a few years ago, my dear, sweet mother rented it for me, my gf, her and Dad to watch. I was horrified because 1) watching anything with highly sexual content with your parents is just...ewwww, and 2) I didn't want the film to give my parents false hope that all I needed was to find the right guy.

Thank god, I managed to convince my mom that it wasn't the best choice for that evening's entertainment and we watched something else. But, ya know, now that she's passed away, it's stuff like that that makes me miss her all the more. She didn't really know anything about the movie except that it was a "hip" independent film with lesbians and she was trying to bond with me by renting it. She was a fairly conservative woman, but when it came to her kids, she always tried. I loved her so much.

Sigh.

Anyway, movies I can't stand. Hmmm. Just about any action movie nowadays. Keep Vin Diesel and Jackie Chan away from me. Not that I've seen their movies. I just know I'd hate them, so I don't go near them. One movie I saw of my own free will and hated was Eyes Wide Shut. I laughed all through the orgy "No, take me instead" scene. I didn't really care for Moulin Rouge either. Strangely, I really like Nicole Kidman, though.

The absolute worst movie I've ever seen is Centerstage. Oh my god, it was awful. Seeing it in the theater was the most excruciating hour and a half of my life. It was worse than the two hours it took to do my tattoo. Also I really hated One Hour Photo. Robin Williams' acting was great, but I was bored to tears. I also didn't like Better Than Chocolate, they meet and fall into bed. Where was the plot?

Speaking of bad acting, Bar Girls.

I hated There's Something About Mary. Bodily-function humor doesn't do much for me. And I didn't like Titanic. James Cameron spent all of that money to create a scaled-down replica of the Titanic, but couldn't bother to write a decent script. I felt manipulated by A.I., as well as bored. (Is it just me, or was that movie about an hour too long?)

I don't know if any of you all have actually seen that lesbian-cliche fest, The Fox. The dead lesbian was killed in a particularly symbolic way. Very offensive.

But most of all, I can't stand Bambi. It's not that it's a bad movie. I just can't watch movies in which animals are injured or killed. Whenever my gf suggests we go to a movie that I know has an animal in it, I have to find out whether or not Fluffy or Fido makes it through the movie alive before I can go see the movie.

I wiggle in geeker joy at the thought of Tim Burton's two Batman movies. They're just so atmospheric and visually stunning. This of course makes my hate for all the later Batman movies infinatly worse. I can't even flip through one of them on tv without going into a pointless heartfelt rant. Arrrrrrg!

The Phantom Menace bit. It just did. The child 'actor', JarJar Binks, need I go on.

It's sheer awfulness made me pass up seeing Ep 2 despite how hot Natalie Portman is:drool.

I have to defend the brilliance of Blade Runner if only for it's visual beauty. Although I love the whole thing especially the dove speech at the end. {sniffle}

The studio version pisses me off on principal though...The tacked on bright shiny ending was completly uncalled for.

Chasing Amy just bored me. It also lacked in the sense making.

In the catagory of so bad it's good I submit XXX with Vin Diesel:rofl. At some point the plot sailed past bad right into comic genious! I'm giggling just thinking about it. This movie requires two to three friends, plenty of alcohol, and MST3K grade mocking. Make a night of it. Trust me.

Oh I'm with you on the Batman thing. The first two; amazing. Interpreting the comic books on a wholly dark and real level with reference to the characters and their origins. But after that? Bleh. I was disappointed. Mostly because I thought the movies gave way to the allure of special effects and blowing things up.

I was being patient, but it took too long. I mean, I miss Buffy, I do. But life shouldn't just stop because she's gone.

A.I

Vanillia Sky

Quills

Titanic

Bridget Jones Diary

Heat

Final Destination

There are more I'm sure, I'll be back later.

a couple of movies i really hate are:

Titanic- really despise Leonardo Dicrappio, think he is one of the most overated actors

Minority Report- boring and hate Tom Cruise

A.I.- also boring, never could watch the whole movie

The Sixth Sense- that "I see dead people" line really got on my nerves

I'm not stealing, I'm just taking things without paying for them. In what twisted dictionary is that stealing?

should chime in on this.

Hated Titanic. Never could sit through it. Kate Winslet in nice to look at, but hey I can watch a good movie and get that too.

Go Fish. Filmed at my old Univerisity and featuring one of my high school friends. But I have never seen it, been looking for it for years.

What else did I hate...so many movies...

Eyes Wide Shut - If I want sex and bad acting I'll rent a porn.

Battlefield Earth - was this supposed to be this funny? This movie is offensive to me on so many levels. Most offensive of all, Travolta promises he is making a sequel.

anything from Merchant/Ivory - sorry. These things put me to sleep, especially Remains of the Day.

The Succubus - bad German horror film. Ok I was expecting cheese here, but the ending just pissed me off.

I Spit On Your Grave - rarely have I wanted my money back from a rental. This movie is the most over-ripr piece of fetid garbage. Gee no wonder JW said it was an "inspiration" for the DMW-chasing-Warren scene. Anyone that finds inspiration in this film needs serious professional help. Don't kid yourself, this not a "female empoyerment" flim, it is a freak show of female exploitation. I wanted to pullan Elvis on my TV.

Ok, so being a movie freak I figure I better post on this thread cause there are so many movie's that I didn't like. One being Fear.com. That was one of the worst horror movie I attempted to watch. I think I got more freak out at Scream and that movie wasn't even scary. I certainly didn't like Chasing Amy either....the script.....yeah bad. I got very confused by AI so I didn't really get into that movie and that takes a lot. Another movie that I didn't really like was Jakob the Liar. Robin Williams is awesome, don't get me wrong, but this movie was just too long and boring.....:sleep . Titanic....ok I have to say that I liked this movie just for the whole finding romance thing, but Leo really bugged me. He is definitely overrated and really can't act very well. I really only liked him in What's Eating Gilbert Grape....

Ok, so now that I have rambled on and on....I better stop before I go off on a bigger tangent......

A movie has to be really, really bad for me to hate it as I pretty much enjoy anything that can distract me for a few hours. Here’s a couple of movies on my worst film list...

Only movies I’ve walked out of a theatre on: Feardotcom & Jason X

Comedy that didn’t make me laugh once: Stealing Harvard

Movies I regretted buying on DVD before first viewing: Salo & The 1974 version of Gone in Sixty Seconds.

Depressed for two days as a result of watching: Gummo

Movies that left me wondering why hasn’t Robin Williams fired his agent yet: One Hour Photo, Insomnia, Death to Smoochy, and Bicentennial Man.

Did JW ever say that? I know I suggested it in a thread I made about feminism immediately following that, but did he ever say that? He made an interview where he spoke of how feminist he thought that movie was but to my knowledge he never tied that to DMW. And yes this movie sucks, you have to have a strong stomach to watch all the extreme violence against women.

speaking of Go Fish: That has to be one of the worst movies I've ever seen. I rented it all excited because Ms. Turner is hot and I had heard a lot of good things about it, but after the movie stoped I was just left with one question: what???? It was horrible! Maybe if the actors has actually taken a class or two or had some actual talent it would have been okay, but it felt like I was watching a bunch of elementary kids popcorn reading (you know when you were in like 5th grade you'd read a paragraph out of the book and then "popcorn" it to someone else?) Ah well...it was just bad!

Oh...and then there's that one movie which Jennifer Anisten (sp?) in it. She cheats on her husband with some young emotionally disturbed boy from her work in a walgreens type place and then gets pregnant. He robs the store and is going to run away with her but she turns him into the police and he kills himself. I think it is called The Girl? I don't know...but it was pretty bad!

As for the films I loathe the most: "Bad Lieutenant" starring Harvey Keitel as a corrupt cop, and "Magnolia".

I don't watch a lot of movies, so my "hated it" lists is pretty short. Some you can just kind of yawn your way through or laugh at, but the following two are ones where I really wanted my money and those two hours of my life back:

Kenneth Branagh's version of Frankenstein. I liked this actor a lot until he did this movie (tho' his performance in the last Harry Potter movie did redeem him a bit :) ). Frankenstein was just way, way WAY over the top, and shot in a such a bizzare manner that I came out of the theater with a splitting headache. I have never come so close to walking out in the middle of the movie as I did with this one.

The other movie I absolutely detest is Dirty Dancing. When this was first released, I must have been the only heterosexual female on the planet who did not immediately adore it and think that Patrick Swayze was like God's Gift to Womankind. I didn't find him all that good-looking, or talented, or even a very good dancer. I thought the story was intolerably stupid and I wanted to kick most of the characters halfway to Mars and back. That the soundtrack is now a musical staple on seemingly every radio station from here to Timbuktu is an added annoyance.

Runner up: Star Wars: Attack of the Clones. Another movie I could barely sit through, despite the presence of Natalie Portman and Ewan McGregor, two actors I adore. People complained about Phantom Menace, but that was IMO a work of art compared to Clones. George Lucas deserves a special place in hell for it.

Hmm, must admit I liked Chasing Amy, I expected to really hate it, but found myself bored one Saturday night and it was on TV so I gave it a go and I did like it, it's different and challenging.

My top 5 hated are:

1. 'Bend it like Beckham' - rubbish acting, rubbish script, terrible racist stereotyping

2. 'Clare of the Moon' - Yuk

3. 'Forrest Gump' - probably the most irresponsible film ever made

4. 'The Mummy" - what the ****?

5. ' Pet Cemetary" - again, what the ****?

and gotta add my favourite film is 'Annie Hall'.
