As reported by Hollywood Reporter. She plays a best friend (sidekick) to main star Jennifer Love Hewitt.

A bit more on the series.

I like this: "American Pie" star Alyson Hannigan.

Yeah it's too bad that she's only the sidekick. Still it will be nice to see her again on the small screen working on something new. She is certainly stinking to her guns and staying with sitcoms.

Although it isn't her very own show, it is better than no Aly at all.

Well bear in mind it's not unheard of for the sidekick to steal the show on a sitcom, and look what Aly did with the 'American Pie' movies.:)

Willow: ...I have to tell you....

Tara: No, I understand you have to be with the person you l-love

The good news is, I have much more faith in Aly's ability to play comedy than Jennifer Love Hewitt's (I mean, have you seen "Heartbreakers?").

The bad news is, if Hewitt can't carry the show it probably won't last very long. But hey, Aly and Ed O'Neill? That'll get me to watch at least two or three episodes...

Aly as sidekick to Jennifer Love Hewitt.

Perhaps Aly can take a page from the JLH playbook and steal the show from her as the supporting character people remember.

JLH did that same trick in "Party of Five" when she was the recurring character as the one guy's girlfriend and proved herself quite willing to show off her tits so she became the breakout star of the show and got her own spin-off series from it.

Since Aly has more talent in one hair follicle than JLH has in her entire frame, Aly should have no problem in making the show hers.:pray :drool

LOL, taralicious I totally agree. I too have faith Aly can steal the show :D I find JLH pretty annoying...hopefully Aly and Ed O'Neill can keep this show from getting axed like JLH's last tv endeavor...anyone remember that PO5 spinoff? God that was awful. I look forward to seeing Aly on tv again :D

Well it would be nice to see her again, if this show does make it on the air I am sure she will steal the show before the first episode is over.

Re: Alyson, new tv series

Looks to me like they're providing JLH with a lot of insurance by surrounding her with a very strong comedic supporting cast (Aly, O'Neill, now Baranski).

Maybe the show will be one of those with a lot of "crazies" surrounding one sane (more or less) central character. Think Dave on Newsradio, Andy on WKRP...Kermit on The Muppet Show. That way JLH doesn't have to carry the comedy but can still be the hub around which the show revolves.

With good writing and directing (is Jimmy Burroughs as bored with Will & Grace as I am yet?), and assuming JLH is secure enough not to demand all the laughs for herself, that could definitely work. Fingers crossed.

Christine Baranski is def. good news. I think that they should not market it this as a JLH vehicle but more as an ensemble. Seriously, the cast sounds like it could sell the show - JLH

Hannigan's back "In the Game"

Devoted lesbian "Buffy"-heads -- among whom Romeo counts himself an honorary member -- have been waiting for Alyson Hannigan's return to TV for some time now. And for a while reports were surfacing that the former Willow would have her own sitcom, a la Mary Tyler Moore.

Now she does. Sort of. The actor has joined the cast of ABC's midseason sitcom "In the Game," which stars Jennifer Love Hewitt as the CEO of an ESPN-like cable sports network.

Hannigan will play Hewitt's childhood best friend, who quits law school to become her pal's assistant. "Married with Children" star Ed O'Neill takes on the role of Hewitt's father, a "Monday Night Football" producer who goes to work with his daughter.

Meanwhile, Hannigan won't merely be playing Rhoda to Hewitt's Mary: Producers are stressing the fact that she'll have storylines of her own.

Now Romeo's game.

Drama has its day at ABC

Gilbert filling Hannigan's shoes on Hewitt laffer

By JOSEF ADALIAN

Hannigan won't be joining ABC's upcoming Jennifer Love Hewitt laffer "In the Game" after all. Instead, the role will be filled by Sara Gilbert ("Roseanne"), who will guest star in the role. Gilbert has had recent guest turns on "ER" and "24."

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You really only get the headline from that link unless you have a subscrition (which I don't) but the headline pretty much sums it up.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

There is some good news though, it was just a rumor a few days ago but has since been all but 100% confirmed that Aly will be appearing on at least 1 episode and possibly even a recurring role on Veronica Mars (already 1 of my favorite shows).

That's too bad about Alyson. Here's hoping she does get on "Veronica Mars". However, I don't think Veronica will last very log if the ratings don't pick up: TV Ratings - Wednesday, January 12
Quote:
On UPN, "Veronica Mars" had a 2.0/3 and nipped "High School Reunion" on The WB.
As for "The Game", I was never a "Rosanne" fan so Gilbert being on the show doesn't compell me to watch it like Aly being on it did as I don't generally watch sitcoms. Aly hasn't had much luck lately. It's a shame that the buzz from AP3 wasn't enough to get her own series on the air.

Given the glaring lack of LGBT characters in the media, I am pleased if a genuine out and about real life gay actress gets some real screentime, it´s another way of positive LGBT visibility. As it is, I will mainly watch because she was my favorite character and actress on Roseanne, I just really really like Sara Gilbert.

More stuff on Aly and In the game from the futon critic:

www.thefutoncritic.com/cg...re&id=6810

IN THE GAME (ABC) - Alyson Hannigan ("Buffy the Vampire Slayer") has opted out of joining the cast of the Jennifer Love Hewitt-led comedy as Sara Gilbert ("Roseanne") has been brought in to replace her. No reason for the change was given. Gilbert's character will also now be listed only as a guest star and not a series regular.
