:cry

Alex!!!

Damn.

Yeah, that was some more HoYay there. Buckets and buckets of it.

Olivia's face was breaking my heart at the end, amazed and relieved that Alex was alive, but then...how long?... :cry

It was perfect and beautiful and praise be for Mariska and Stephanie.

I think I'll miss Alex so much that it's going to take me a long time to stop thinking of the new ADA as "that bitch." Alex made everything better, even with that weird haircut with the bangs.

About all that girlfriend stuff...I assumed that was code for Alex and that he'd probably said "your girlfriend" and not "her girlfriend." I'm not sure, I'd have to listen again.

I'm really glad that there's at least a possiblity for Alex/Stephanie to come back in the future. I won't hope too hard for it, unless the new ADA is intolerable to me. But I survived Cary Lowell and Elisabeth Rohm (until she got better) and I can't imagine anyone being worse than those two.

runnerbird78...whoa...for real? Oh, man...softball...Olivia...love life...

I know we're all thinking exactly the same thing. :lol

I don't know...I need to think about this some more. And probably wait to see it before I start forming opinions about it.

Mariska does look nice in that photo. I think her features are softening somewhat now that she's getting a bit older. I googled and found on one site that she'll be 40 this coming January. Kinda hard to believe, huh.

Also, considering her mom was Jayne Mansfield, I think Mariska is much, much better looking than her poor deceased mom, who I never thought was attractive.

On the L&O SVU bio section, about Ms. Neal it says:

While not filming, Neal enjoys playing basketball and softball and at one time was a competitive figure skater. Neal currently resides in New York.

Ditto to what runnerbird78 just said:

She plays softball? Things that make you go.. hmmmm....

Mariska is apparently much better looking in person. My friend saw her get out of a cab a couple of weeks ago and she was very distracted by how pretty she was. Mariska is still beautiful for being almost forty, but given her gene pool (her mother was Jayne and her father was Mr. Universe) I don't think it's too much of a surprise.

Don't get too excited about "Olivia's love life" part of the producer's quote. Word is Olivia is visited by an ex-boyfriend. I am glad that she will forge a friendship with the new ADA (i refuse to address her by name.. i'm in mourning) so maybe there is hope yet for more HoYay-laced episodes!

Edited to Add:

Universal has just posted preview caps for next week's episode. Behold, the new ADA

I don't expect them to make Olivia gay at all. I would like more HoYay and well if the new ADA was gay, I wouldn't complain.

Ok, I like her a lot better in these pics. The hair is softer. Not forgetting alex though! no never!

runnerbird, it's nice to know that Mariska is much better looking in person.

As for the love life thing, I was kinda joking, wishful thinking I guess. I'm wondering if the ex-boyfriend is Dean Winters, who played Detective Cassidy in some of the earlier eps. I saw a rerun where he and Olivia spent the night together, and I thought there was no chemistry at all. I think it may have been a one time thing for them, 'cause I believe Olivia blew him off the next day.

Also, here's some info on executive producer Neal Baer mentioned above, for those of you who want to read about someone who seems to be an incredibly gifted, altruistic human being. Don't be put off by the photo, which reminded me a bit of Josswad, who I think can't compare in any way, shape or form to Dr. Baer.

Janice

Edited to add thanks for the link to the caps, runner. She does look better there, kinda cute and laid back, not at all like Alex, who really reminded me of an ice queen when she first started.

The subject of the new ep is another downer, of course.

Sniff, I still really miss Alex.

Edited again to add that I just read a reference on another board to the "girlfriend" comment on the tape. They said it was a reference to Alex so they didn't have to say her name. I like my kitten interpretation better, but I guess that could make sense.

Sniff, I still really, really miss Alex. :cry

Yeah, that's what I said I thought, it was just code for Alex, so it's not so incriminating. They knew they were probably being recorded.

Sorry 'bout that, Holley. I was so busy typing, googling, and generally still missing Alex sooo much that I totally missed your post up there about the code for Alex.

My bad.:)

At least I can catch her on reruns.

Janice

Edited to bump this up. I was just wondering how many folks saw the first ep with Casey Neal (Diane Neal)? I watched it, didn't hate her or anything, but she is in no way, shape or form anything like Alex, IMO.

The ep of L&O SVU, Ridicule is on USA tonight, at 7pm and 12pm Eastern, featuring Ms. Neal as one of 3 women accused of raping a male stripper. If she is the character I remember, she was pretty effectively scarey.

I still miss Alex!!! The only consolation so far is that I've discovered Olivia/Alex fanfiction-yay!

I liked the new ADA. I didn't like her hair much but I liked it at the end. I think she came on way too pushy but I trust olivia will put her in her place. I enjoyed them clashing though. Yes, I miss Alex, but i thought this week's ep was really weak too so that didn't help.

I'm willing to give the new ADA a chance, but I think her introduction revealed too much, too soon. I feel like I already know too much about her. I know she plays softball. I know she likes to fish... hands-on... stubborn... pushy... a little green ... and conflicted about her new gig. Almost as if TPTB were trying to "shove" her character down our throats ... "hey, look she is nothing like Alex.. like her.. she's conflicted!!"

The beauty of Alex Cabot was we got to know her gradually. Sure, she was an icy, cold bitch who loved to hand defendants their asses on a silver platter, but she was lovable all the same without trying. Maybe part of it was how the character was written. Maybe part of it was Stephanie March's charm.

Casey could definitely grow on me... but I think they need to character just "be" for a while instead of emotionally spoon-feeding the audience.

Yesterday on USA I saw the old episode that the new ADA was on. She had longer hair in a ponytail, she looked hot. I think her hair is better straight not so poofy. I know I am obsessed with the hair. Anyway , she was tougher in that episode, she just seemed pushy last Thursday. I still think she can shape up!

I was gonna go to bed, but I was so pissed off I had to come back here to post. Tonight's Law&Order SVU was the lamest I think I've ever seen.

Blechhhhh....Not-Alex-At-The-Bat was boring, and I feel bad 'cause Diane Neal has an awfully huge gap to fill by Stephanie March's leaving, and I really don't want to dislike the Casey character, but the writers aren't making it very easy because I think she is verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry bland.

The guy playing Kevin the mental guy was very good, in spite of the overall crappy (IMO) script.

Mariska looked hot in jeans and was terrific pulling the door down, though. Woo hoo! :clap :thud

Overall, though, I was really disappointed in the ep. Sigh.

I wish that Diane Neal would only be in a few eps and that somehow Stephanie March would be able to miraculously return from the Witness Protection Program as Alex, and be reunited with Olivia, and we would have some HoYay.

If not that, can we please have Judith Light make some appearances????????????????????????????????????????????? Or even Fred Dalton Thomas would be better, as far as I am concered..

However, I am getting some consolation from the fact that Dick Wolfe is not Josswad and that maybe Dick Wolfe has some sensibliity compared to Joss. (Ha, at least Dick Wole has 4 shows still on the air!!).

I stiill miss Alex, but wish Stephanie March all the best. Maybe she can be a guest on Aly's NBC comedy??? (I wish!!!).

They still need to give Diane Neal a good show but still I was HIGHLY entertained last night. Mariska in jeans! HOT! Lots of olivia running around being big with the butch. And then Novak in the batting cage :heart. They can go ahead and show her in there every week. She had pretty good form. No follow through though she was cutting her swing short but who knows :P maybe that's what she wanted. I loved it.

xita, I'm glad you liked the ep last night. I guess I was being in a pissy reason for whatever reason, and watching the tape in the wee hours after work prolly didn't help.

I guess I never realized how much I really liked Stephanie March ( :thud ) until I found out she was leaving the show. I'm kinda slow on some things sometimes.

I'm not actively trying to dislike Diane Neal.

I'm having a bit of difficulty adjusting to Stephanie gone all in one ep then Diane Neal shows up in the opening credits in her first ep as Casey Novack.

Aha, I get why I've been pissy as I've been typing this. I'm misplacing my anger at Josswad to Dick Wolfe and Diane Neal for putting Ms. Neal in the opening credits. I think most of you guys know what I'm talking about.

Thank you xita, for being here and helping me out so much. :grin Where do I send you payment for your listening???

Janice

PS

xita, I did like the bat scene, but I found it a bit forced.

Let's lave more Olivia hotness in jeans!!!! :drool

I thought last night's ep of SVU was pretty good. I missed the first 10 minutes, so I didn't see the new credits. It doesn't bother me that the new ADA is in the credits straight away; I'd expect that since she's got the same status on the show as Cabot did. (I've only been watching the show since May as it's not aired in the UK.) Anyway, I liked Cabot and was sorry to see her leave, but I like Casey Novak too. Diane Neal reminds me a bit of Melissa Gilbert, whom I also like.

It was good to have some tension between the regular cast, and it was more interesting (from a dramatic point of view) for Novak not to trust the SVU cops immediately.

Also, the ep was one of the more nuanced portrayals of a person with a mental ilness that I've seen on a cop show, though frankly that's not saying much.

Re: Law and Order: SVU

Postby xita » Wed Oct 29, 2003 8:12 pm

I didn't see anything wrong with Diane Neal getting opening credits. This is a different show and there is absolutely no need to compare it.

The ADA is a major role in any of the Law and Orders, Stephanie chose to walk away, they needed to replace it and they needed a regular to do this. Makes sense to me. Remember this is the Law and Order franchise, they have made a living at changing casts, and accomodating them to the formula. I have never heard of a cast member not working out. I would say SVU has more involvement with the characters than the original version but the formula is still geared towards the stories.

*editing to add, Olivia in jeans again. . . man oh man, she's a hottie. Not enough casey at bat though :(

I just wanted to say that SVU is now my favorite show on TV. I just started watching a few weeks ago, but I am hooked big time.

Amazing writing, acting and perfect casting, this show is just incredible.

Now it doesn't hurt that two of the leads are drop dead gorgeous :eyebrow

Although my Olivia and Casey love is great indeed :heart My favorite character so far is Elliot. He is so the man.

Like xita said, I must identify with him...straight guy who hangs with gay girls and beats up child molesters :lol

xita, you're talking about that last conversation on the bench, right? I thought that he was saying that James thought gay guys were more fun than straight guys, and Casey was agreeing with that.

But I didn't tape the episode (gah) so I can't be sure. I'm sure someone else will give a more definitive answer.

My question is, did Casey have another bag besides her briefcase when she biked in to work? I didn't see one, but she obviously had to have changed clothes at the office, so...

SVU 11/11 - Abomination

Postby BytrSuite » Fri Nov 14, 2003 9:33 am

Quote:
NBC 'Homosexual Mouthpiece' FOC Claims

by Jed Lang

365Gay.com Entertainment

The conservative Christian group Focus on the Family is screaming with indignation over this week's episode of Law & Order: SVU, accusing it spewing "homosexual activist rhetoric".

The program involved the murder of an 'ex-gay' poster boy. The plot has the victim about to expose the movement when he is killed. The story runs its course with the killer turning out to be a leader of the 'ex-gay' movement.

"Having personally walked away from homosexuality over a decade ago, I was stunned at the misrepresentation displayed by this show," says Mike Haley, manager of the gender issues department for Focus on the Family.

"The writers of 'Law & Order: SVU,' with its now apparent activist agenda, decided to use its time-slot to try to convince the American public that sexual orientation cannot be changed, and that people like me, a former homosexual, do not exist.

"Millions of gays and lesbians are continuing to be told by the mainstream media that change is impossible, and that is simply not true," Haley said. "Such misinformed drivel is simply irresponsible and potentially harmful to those who are looking for a way out."

FOC has been a leading opponent of gay rights for more than a decade. Through it's 'Love Won Out' meetings across the country, FOC attempts to convince people homosexuality is a "curable disease". The ex-gay movement has been discredited by the American Psychiatric Association, and professional psychology groups.

Postby BBOvenGuy » Fri Nov 14, 2003 9:59 am

Oooh, I missed the 11/11 episode, but now I'll have to be sure I catch the rerun.

I guess Focus on the Family can dish it out, but they can't take it. If the Law & Order franchise has an agenda, it's that it doesn't play favorites. Any group, be it a racial minority, sexual orientation minority, political minority, etc., can show up as either perpetrator or victim - just like real life. There have been episodes with gay or lesbian characters who were victims, and there have been others with gay or lesbian characters who were perpetrators. The same rule should apply to Christian conservatives as well, but apparently the Christian conservatives don't see it that way. Well, tough noogies. They've just got to deal.

"The stories we tell - that's us explaining how we think the world works. Once we speak it, once we say it aloud, that makes it real for us - and real for everyone else who hears it too. When we tell a story, we invite people to visit our reality. We invite them to move in. Our stories are the reality we live in." - David Gerrold, The Martian Child

I definitely got an anti-phelps feel from the episode as well. The protesters at the funeral, etc. The guy that was I think closest to phelps was so gross, his teeth, oh gross. I think they played it very realistic. I think even people who don't support gay rights have a hard time supporting that type of activism.
