All Law and Orders have been renewed for 2 years on the NBC Law and Order network:

NBC Unveils Massive 'Law & Order' Franchise Renewal

NBC AND NBC UNIVERSAL TELEVISION SIGN NEW LONG-TERM DEAL WITH DICK WOLF THAT BUILDS AND EXTENDS VAUNTED 'LAW & ORDER' BRAND

Agreement Inks Wolf Through June 2008 Renews Three Current 'Law & Order' Dramas Through 2006 Adds Fourth Series, 'Law & Order: Trial by Jury'

NBC and NBC Universal Television have completed a multi-tiered agreement with Wolf Films and executive producer Dick Wolf to extend Wolf's overall deal until the end of June 2008 and give multi-year pickups to Wolf's three NBC shows, "Law & Order," "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" and "Law & Order: Criminal Intent."

In addition, the agreement adds a fourth "Law & Order"-branded drama - "Law & Order: Trial by Jury" -- for the 2004-05 season.
I liked the first few seasons of the 0riginal but got bored after that. NBC will have four hours of L&O on their schedule next season. Hopefully for them, it won't do a "Who wants to be a Millionaire" over saturation.

I saw a commercial for the CSI: Miami that will launch CSI: New York. It airs Monday, May 17th. I hate to have to watch anything with David Caruso in it, but I'll watch this to see if I think the new show will be worth watching. And because I don't despise Gary Sinise. Much.

Why all these shows gotta have men as the boss? Three of them and all the boss people are men? Oh, look, and white men, too. Straight...white...men....

Dennis Farina will be replacing Jerry Orbach on the original Law & Order next year:

Farina Joins 'L&O' as Orbach Spins Off

(Monday, May 17 11:57 AM)

By Daniel Fienberg

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Ending a long period of speculation, NBC confirmed on Monday (May 17) that veteran character actor Dennis Farina will join the cast of "Law & Order," while the man he's replacing will move over to the spin-off "Law & Order: Trial by Jury," set for midseason. Both announcements came in advance of Monday's upfront presentation to advertisers.

"I've known Dennis for 20 years, and he's a terrific actor, a consummate professional and a truly nice guy," says "Law & Order" mastermind Dick Wolf.

As expected, Farina will play a New York detective, a role similar to Orbach's Lenny Briscoe. Just don't expect the parts to be that similar.

"Just as Dick has done when he's introduced every one of the new characters on 'Law & Order' through the years, they've each taken on their own personality and reflected the character who plays them," says NBC Universal Television President Jeff Zucker. "Dennis Farina's obviously going to be a different kind of cop from Jerry Orbach."

A former Chicago cop, Farina has played characters on all sides of the law in film and television projects including "Crime Story," "Manhunter," "Get Shorty" and "Big Trouble." He also starred in the short-lived NBC comedy "The In-Laws" for a brief period.

Orbach played Det. Brisco on "Law & Order" for 12 seasons before deciding to depart at the end of this season. He'll make the move to "Trial by Jury," where other characters from the "Law & Order" universe will make occasional appearances.

"I think Jerry just came to a point where frankly he was ready for a change and ready to take on a different schedule," says NBC Entertainment President Kevin Reilly. "He's going to play the same role in the new show, but the schedule's going to be more flexible for him. This has been a very big load for him to carry five days a week."

Just last week, NBC and Wolf films agreed to an extension that will keep "Law & Order" and spin-offs "Special Victims Unit" and "Criminal Intent" with the network through at least the 2005-06 season.

Also, the new 'Trial By Jury' spin-off didn't make it on to NBC's fall schedule, which was something of a surprise:

Jerry Orbach's IMDB listing puts his age at 68, so no wonder he's looking for a more "flexible" schedule after 12 years full-time.

It sounds like Trial by Jury will be his "victory lap," which is something he definitely deserves.

Meanwhile, still no mention of Elisabeth Rohm being replaced, so it looks like she'll be the first ADA to break the three-year term limit. :party

No, Brian, it is you who are blinded by the red/might as well be blonde hair. Alex has nothing to do with it, but, since you seem to keep bringing her up, I have to think that you're not quite content with Casey and secretly yearn for Alex to come back.

Seems to me Kathy, that your animosity towards Casey, might be that you hate yourself for liking Casey more than Alex, and you just can't deal with it.

I like myself just fine. Casey, however, is a completely different story. It's true, Alex was one of a kind and I was sad to see her go. But, I watched with an open mind and Casey just had to go and stomp all over my last nerve with her stupidity.

Casey's bad, mmmkay.

Jealous? Jealous of Casey's ability to be hot when she's angry? Hmm. I get plenty angry, too. Someone else is gonna have to tell me whether there's any hotness evident during that time or not. Or jealous because I'll never bear the brunt of Casey's anger? I might not think it was hot if she were aiming it at me. No matter - Angry Casey = Hot Casey.

She does seem profoundly incompetent - I'm in agreement with you there. I don't know if they're writing her that way on purpose or what. And I sure would love to see Alex back. Olivia's lonely. Her bed is sooo cold at night. :(

So now that you're done "debating" about Casey, how did you like Serena last night? She's come a long way from the perky cheerleader type they wrote during her first season.

Don't worry about Lenny. He'll be back in January. :)

Update 6/23/04 - The Hollywood Reporter now says that Elisabeth Rohm will leave Law & Order at some undetermined point next season. She's currently committed to the first 13 episodes in order to preserve some cast continuity while Dennis Farina settles into Jerry Orbach's old slot.

The article claims that she "already has several television projects in the works." It also mentions that her character Serena is the longest-running ADA in the show's history.

And, for anyone who's interested, Stephanie March is on the cover of the current 'In Style Weddings' magazine.
