Salem Witch Trials, koala bears, SpongeBob: what's on TV and at the movies!

Hex

Postby MaClayMagic » Sat Oct 09, 2004 5:25 am

"Hex" is a witch based show starting here in the UK Sunday 17th on Sky 1. My newspaper (Daily Mirror) has this to say today, including a photo of two women kissing!:

Let's get Hex-Ual

RIP Buffy- long live Cassie from Hex! Here's the lady hereself in a lesbian clinch in a series set to push aside a few more TV bounderies...

So here's the background. Cassie is a sixth-form student possessed by an old voodoo curse. This not only gives her amazing super-natural powers but also brings back to earth a sex-obsessed angel called Azazeal.

The result? Well, let's just say it's going to get steamy....

To complicate matters, Cassie's best mate Thelma is a lesbian who is obsessed with her- but Cassie, played by Christina Cole, doesn't feel the same way. This doesn't stop Thelma having raunchy dreams about her pal, in which they snog a lot- as seen here
(the picture from the paper) where the dream takes them back to the 1920's.

Confused? All will be explained on Sky One from 9pm next Sunday.

Sounds cool! Magic and lesbians, sounds familiar, lets see where this series goes with it!

Wake up, Neo...

Sounds like an intersting series. I saw the ads for it on Sky One the other night and my ears pricked up at the sound of magic related violence...:p

We'll hav to see what its all like...

It sounds pretty good, but I have to be honest, I was also a little ticked off when I heard about it.

See, I'm writing a short story which I hope to turn into a full-length novel someday. The main character is a bisexual witch.

Now, I'll have even less chance of ever getting it published because it'll look like I ripped Hex off! :cry

Still, as long as it doesn't resort to the cliche, I'll probably take a look.

It's actually really good, and well worth watching. The main character is nice (she reminds me of a shorter, bustier and blonde Keira Knightley), and the whole production and story are well done.

Big pilot episode spoilers:

Guess what? Yep, one dead lesbian. But... she came back right at the end as a ghost, and joked about the cliché. It does explain the whole them 'not being able to touch' thing I saw in an interview, which is a shame since they had some really nice chemistry.

Here are the bittorrent links:

site 1 - alternative site 2

They are xvid avi's, 350-700 megabytes.

If you've never downloaded a bittorrent before install this (pc only).

If you have any trouble playing it, install this (pc only).

I've been reading reviews on Flickr and I am just worried about lesbian cliches. Otherwise it sounds like an interesting show that does and says things they could never do on American television.

(by the way I spotted this show back in March, no one replied :( )

I just ran into this show on afterellen. I can't see it (Sky One), but the review wasn't overwhelmingly positive. Something aboutdead lesbians...

I'm still gonna keep an ear out about it. Maybe it'll turn out better than one might be lead to believe?

I sat down and tuned in to Sky One, I watched it, It kicked ass. Even though the start was a lil slow (to explain everything) it's a great series :)

Loved the ending of the last episode on Sky One...

Has episode 2 aired on SkyOne? Still waiting for it to show up elsewhere :(

Dying to know if they kept up the decent style past the pilot...

I think I enjoyed this episode better than the pilot. There was a lot more of Thelma. Quite honestly, she's a far better heroine than Cassie, and she seems to be more proactive in finding out what is actually going on.

TaraLivesOn,

I remember that post. Not much to say at the time.

Right now I am scrounging to get Episodes 1 and 2. We will see how it is.

It's kind of a neat idea, not a new one obviously, but interesting.

Not thrilled about "yet another dead lesbian" but maybe they can turn it around.

Dead or not Thelma seems to be the heart of this show which is quite ironic considering she's supposed to be the sidekick. I have to say I really like her character, scary Kelly Osbourne hair aside, and she definitely has the best lines. Self-deprecating, smart and sassy, and as for the dream manipulation skill she has, heheh, she's a bad girl and I like her:D

Okay I am officially enjoying the heck out of this show.

It's no BtVS but that's the point, it's not trying to be a direct copycat and that's good.

Episode 2 was really fun. Especially that wake up scene.

Heh, won't say more as not to spoil those that have not watched.

I downloaded Episdoe 2, but I still don't have episode 1 yet.

I'll try these bittorrent ones to see if I can get something.

Course my version of Ep.2 is really crummy, that might color my opinion a little.

Well based on the wake up and the scene in the bathroom it appears that Thelma isn't letting death slow her down. Since Thelma seems failry corporeal for a ghost there's nothing to prevent her bringing Cassie over to the 'other side', and I don't mean the spirit world. :)

I'll try to help boost the speed of ep1.

Get the ep2 from the same source, very good quality

and well worth the extra download wait.

Speeds are usually much better the first 48 hours after an episode comes out...

Ok I got both now.

Not only that I have a really good high quality version of Ep.1

I'll have to watch them soon.

When is Hex on? That way I know when to start looking.

I'm loving this show!!! And Sky are repeating it a lot. I might get the times and channels wrong but I think it's originally on Sky One Sun night at 9pm, then repeated on Sky Mix on Wed at 10 pm, repeated again on Sky One on Thu at 9 pm and again Sat but I'm not sure channel/time.

Did I mention I love it?!! Thelma is really cool, not sure about the big red flower though :lol

I really love this show, I've seen the last two eps and they're fantastic. I'm trying to download the first episode but it's been connecting to peers for the last 2 hours and my computer is the most crap piece of machinery on the planet and shuts down for no reason every hour or so. I really, really, really hope this show gets another season and doesn't get cancelled and replaced with some reality show or yet another American import. Yay for home-grown quality TV.

PS. Am I the only one that thinks Cassie's boyfriend, Leon or something, doesn't move his lips when he talks?

A bit of a wait though, filming is not until the spring...

Well if things are getting a bit thin on the ground in the USA seems like the genre is having a mini revival in the UK. Anyone else think that Thelma is less just lingering ghost and more guardian angel? Of course most guardian angels don't want to sleep with their charges but its the results that count...:)

Okee, watched episode 5. Kinda anti-climatic. I sure hope they give them much more budget next season. No ghost effects and she didn't use her "powers" for a single second in this last episode. It was like a regular soap opera if you didn't know the background from the previous four episodes.

Re: Hex

Postby angel of salvation » Mon Nov 15, 2004 5:31 pm

Ok, was anyone else disapointed by the season finale?

Cuz I was. No super powers of the psychic kind, no ghosting fun, just sitting around in a hospital and a lil baby thats still alive.

Great series and all and I'll be looking forward to the 2nd series. Its just that it seems a little short. I mean, 5 episodes doesn't leave much time to explain alot. They could have explored things a lil more, or showed us what Cassie's really made of, or even Thelma. Oh well, bring on season 2!! :)
