The show us where you live thread

Postby urnofosiris » Tue May 06, 2003 4:33 pm

One of the many many many many wonderful things about this board is that it is a place where people from literally every continent that isn't frozen can talk to each other without having to get on one of those flying tin can monstrosities, a.k.a. planes. We have the My Town thread where we can tell where live and then there is the Show Me Yours - pictures that is! thread were we can show our handsome faces. :geek The Digital Photography Thread is the place to share digital pics you have taken of anything other than your face or home or town.

Now I am awefully curious of what the rest of the world looks like. I don't get out much. So this thread is for sharing pictures from your house, your street, your town, the landscape near where you live, just about anything you are willing to show that is close to your home (so if you live in LA don't be posting NY piccies), leave that to the NY kitties. :eyebrow

They don't have to be artsy fartsy pretty pics, but if you feel like it go for it, I did, heh. Oh yeah, I took pics and I have been waiting for an opportunity to show them off. An opportunity did not appear so I am creating one myself. :smug

I did some 6 weeks redecorating in my house at the end of last year and I took some before and after pics to prove it, just be glad I am not showing you the toilet.

This is where I live. This is Hoorn btw, an old town (city rights were granted in 1357) about 30 miles north of Amsterdam. It used to be an important seaport where the headquarters of the United East Indian Company were situated way back when the Netherlands used to be an important country, that is, we conquered and pillaged other countries to become important. Well, the old Dutchies weren't saints but they did make prettier buildings than they do these days.

Great pics Garfield, I only have a few from around town, I don't have more since it's been raining almost all the time since I got my camera last Friday, but I'll get a lot more soon...

Cool thread. It's cool to be able to see the atmosphere people live in. :) Oh, I have some pictures from my dorm room that I took a few months ago. I'll be leaving it in a few days, but I'll still link them.

I don't have any personal pictures I really feel like sharing, sorry. I'm private that way.

But showing off my city is never a bother! Toronto is an awesome place, and we are PERFECTLY SAFE TO VISIT. No new SARS cases (other than hospital workers) in over 3 weeks, thank you.

That said, take a virtual tour! This site has some lovely pics. Be sure to check out the many neighbourhood links in the left column.

PS: Garfield, nice town, nice house. Reminds me of my aunt & uncle's place in Leiden.

Gawds DrG, it's stunning where you live. :eek I'd go insane on film if I had photo opportunities like that! Me, I have no pic's of my town yet, I just moved here. Not even sure this hickville deserves being on a map. :p

Well this is a picture of the bridge which gives my hometown of Newbridge it's name. But as you can see, it's not really new anymore, but my suggestions of renaming the town to "Once-Newbridge" or "No-longer-Newbridge" have been largely ignored!

I live in Amsterdam, Netherlands. A city since circa 1300. Yeah, that's old but also part of its immense charm. But, I'm biased because I absolutely love it here.

Went a little overboard again -almost ended up in one of those bloody canals but I managed to make some nice shots of my surroundings. I sometimes like to hang out in the Red Light District but the ladies understandably do not like their photograps to be taken so you gotta use your imagination there :grin ! here it goes

I live in Nuneaton, Warwickshire, which is in the middle bit of England - aptly named the Midlands :)

It's claim to fame is that it is the birthplace of novelist George Eliot. For the more camp at heart, Nuneaton was also home to Larry Grayson ("Ooh, shut that door!")

This will take you to a page on Nuneaton in general, and shows some okay-ish pictures of the nicer side of life, ie the heritage we use to con people into thinking we're a quaint English town.

This is a better picture of Arbury Hall, which is just round the corner from where I live, and is actually pretty nice.

Christ Emma, I wish you'd informed me about the Larry Grayson legacy. I'd have paid more attention.

Ah yes, Larry Grayson. Wonderful man, lived in Nuneaton most of his life, just down the road from me.

He's much loved in these parts. I have a treasured sponsored walk certificate from infant school signed by the man himself. He sat at a point along the route and stamped the thing every time you went past, then signed it at the end.

What a gay day that was. Sigh.

Anyway, Ruth, just for you, dandelion fountain!

It’s very interesting to see pics from hometowns, especially since kittens are spread all around the world. And Garfield , I noticed the computer in your pic was on the Kitten. Seems only fitting. :)

I live just outside of Washington, DC in the suburbs of Maryland. I spend a lot of time down around the Mall and the Smithsonian because DC’s a fun place to go. We just finished our Cherry Blossom Festival , which is one of the best times to visit the capital area. People who work downtown like to go out on their lunch break just to walk around the Tidal Basin and take in the colors. After a long winter, the trees are a very welcome sight.

Kalita, wonderful pics on that site. I had no idea Toronto was that diverse, it looks great. :) Btw, I two of my friends live in Leiden so I have visited it often, it does have a beautiful center with some nice historical landmarks, but onfortunately it is a breeding place for "choir balls" as we call em (stuck up rich students). :p

Scout, those pics look great too. Those trees are really beautiful, some streets here are lined with them and in the spring they become like one long pink ribbon, makes me feel quite gay. :grin

Thanks La, but unfortunately they're not mine. I never seem to catch the blossoms at their peak. :)

And yes, Garfield, it is nice when such beautiful trees line the streets. Around the community where I live, the streets are often lined with Bradford Pear trees (which have white flowers) and when they bloom it looks like all the trees are filled with snow. Very beautiful and very gay. :)
