indeed i agree with yall but it is hard to find a pro-gay/lesbian (i sound like a politian i know) politian in this economy if there were a pro-gay/lesbian candidate running for office i would prolly vote for him i also think he would win because one out of every five people are gay/lesbian which means we all know and are possibly friends with gay/lesbian people

I think that what will help in making that difference is if an influential non gay guy like Gore actually shows up. It ups the publicity, and no doubt for him some of that publicity will be bad, but ultimately I am sure it helps us all. Every little bit counts.



Yesterday there was an interesting bit of news on TV about Dutch marriages. It seems that in the last few years there has been a substantial increase in the percentage of couples that hold a church wedding as well as the standard city hall wedding. Right now 60% of all couples get married in church as well. This news might be of interest to all the bigots out there that are ever so worried that legalizing gay marriage will threaten the whole institution of marriage. See, same sex marriages were legalized in the Netherlands in 2000, according to the dire prophecies of our anti gay morality knights, us depraved Dutch people should all be gay by now and living in sin. I don't know what went wrong.

Okay, Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck it wasn't, but another high-profile celebrity hitching took place in Los Angeles this weekend.



Grammy-winning rocker Melissa Etheridge and her gal-pal of two years, actress Tammy Lynn Michaels, tied the knot Saturday in Malibu.

"We are so grateful for the blessings from our friends and family as we commence our vows, and begin the rest of our lives together," they said in a joint statement Monday.



This is the "first domestic partnership for both," according to a statement from the couple's publicist. Although the statement refers to the couple as married, California does not recognize same-sex unions.



Meanwhile, guaranteeing some boffo wedding gifts, the all-star nuptials featured such A-list attendees as Steven Spielberg and Kate Capshaw, Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, Al and Tipper Gore, Jennifer Aniston (Brad was invited but is on location with Troy in Malta and couldn't make it), Helen Hunt, Mike Myers, Sally Field, Ellen DeGeneres, Sheryl Crow, Christina Applegate and Kathy Najimy.



For those keeping track at home, Badgley Mischka handled the couture duties, with Etheridge frocked in a "candlelight pantsuit of a linen jacket with beaded accent and crepe trousers," while Michaels wore a lace coat "crystal embellished scalloped trim over a white matte jersey gown."



The duo exchanged matching, custom-made platinum and diamond bands designed by jeweler to the stars Rafinity.



No word on honeymoon plans.



Since coupling two years ago, Etheridge and Michaels have been cohabitating at the singer's Los Angeles home. They announced their engagement in April.



Etheridge, 41, spent 12 years with former girlfriend Julie Cypher. They went on to have two children together, Bailey and Becket, each carried by Cypher with singer David Crosby contributing his sperm for the cause. The lesbian duo split in 2000 and share custody of their kids.



Michaels, 28, is best known for playing high-maintenance princess Nicole Julian on the defunct WB series Popular. She'll next be seen in a recurring role in Showtime's drama series The L Word.



Etheridge, a two-time Grammy winner, is due to release her next studio album in January on Island Records.

Grammy-winning singer Melissa Etheridge exchanged vows with her girlfriend, actress Tammy Lynn Michaels, in a weekend ceremony, the singer's publicist said.



"We are so grateful for the blessings from our friends and family as we commence our vows, and begin the rest of our lives together," the couple said in a statement Sunday.



The statement described the two as married, although homosexual couples cannot legally marry in California.



Etheridge wore a beaded linen jacket and crepe trousers in Saturday's ceremony while Michaels wore a white lace coat and a white gown. Their platinum and diamond wedding bands were custom-made, the statement said.



Etheridge, 41, and Michaels, the 28-year-old star of TV's "Popular," met two years ago. They live in Southern California with Etheridge's daughter and son.



Etheridge shares custody of the children with former lover Julie Cypher, who had the children through artificial insemination using a sperm donation from rocker David Crosby.
