The all purpose Football or Soccer Thread

Postby Zippy » Mon Apr 07, 2003 11:04 am

Out of all of the things that have come and gone from my life over the years my love of football has remained strong. For ninety minutes I am completely transported to another place, all my cares and worries from my real life are gone and all that matters to me is what is going on the pitch. Sometimes my football obsession causes happy feelings and other times crappy feelings. So I am very happy to start this football (or Soccer if you prefer) thread so anyone who wants to share their views or love of the game can.

Who is going to win what? Who is going to get relegated? cough* Stoke* cough Who are your favorite players? Who are your favorite teams? Your football highs and lows? And the eternal football question why the hell does Heskey keep getting picked for the England squad when all he does is fall over?

Have fun and enjoy. Oh and I know this is really unpatriotic of me but Come on Real Madrid. Hey all is fair in love and football :devilish

I think would be funny to see you crying into your pint love. Hey I did after the Villa game.

Ooh great thread, Zoe. I'm one of those football fans who's a football fan without actually being a football fan. Heh.

However, I do believe in supporting local teams. Macclesfield Town FC and Stockport County FC. Both, however, are shite. I feel no shame in saying this.

Oh bugger it. I do.

Great thread, but bad timing, currently drowning my sorrows after the 'ahem' Mighty reds got tonked by Man Ure, please please please Mr Houllier, go now and leave us with some dignity. I have truly reached the depths of despair.

The only pleasure left will be seeing Real Madrid run rings around the Glams tommorrow !!!

You want me express my shame, how's about this .. I currently have a signed and framed shirt from this season's 'players' sitting in my living room.

That's worth feeling the shame for.

Yes, good luck Man U. I hope you get a referee for the game against Real as poor or biased as the one that gave you the win over Liverpool.

The referee is always bias towards Man Utd, I think it is some unwritten football law.

How much time is being added on for stopages in this match? As long as it takes Man Utd to score!

Hey Caz,

I might be being a little optimistic, but this tie is not over yet. The return leg at Old Trafford should be a cracking match and you just never know with United. I have been supporting them for far to long to rule them out just yet. Plus, you never know, we may even get the same ref.:whistle

Lets just hope that the lads can put in a performance against Newcastle on Saturday.

Oh.. I nearly forgot. Here's hoping that Sheffield United turn Arsenal over on Saturday.:wink

The thing I've always noticed about Man U is that they let things get really bad before they pull their fingers out and start to play like a team of their standing should. I still remember the game against Bayern Munich and those goals that were all scored in the final minutes. Ah, the glory days. Sigh.

And yeah, come on the Blades! Heh.

Kudos to bartez though on some great saves (one from his own side!!!) lol

I'm not a Manchester United fan; I actually live somewhat near to Manchester and am therefore precluded from their followers. :rolleyes

If you're a Manc, chances are you'd support City anyway. Bless 'em.

You still can't beat Macc. Town anyway. Silkmen!

Oh wait...actually, everyone beats Macc. Town. Hmm. Still, I believe civic pride is good for the soul. Now, if only I had one... ;)

I watched the game at work (so I didn't really watch the whole thing), and I was very impressed with Real Madrid. They started like they were going to eat Man Un. alive... :D I have to admit this was the first UEFA game I watched in a very long time, and it got me all hooked again!

I have absolutely nothing against Man Un. but as a good Brazilian football lover, Real *has* to be my choice, of course. :)

Now, if only I could watch my Corinthians and the other Brazilian games here... :pray

You know, I didn't read this topic earlier because I thought it was about American football (have been in the US too long, I suppose...), which I can't stand. Good thing "soccer" was added to the title!

come on lads

Postby samiamiguess » Thu Apr 10, 2003 3:25 am

Since I'm one of those really annoying part time Man U fans I have to admit I was pretty peeved about Tuesday. However last night made up for it and then some. Yes Stoke won. I'll say it again because it bears repeating, Stoke won.

How chuffed was I? Well by the time I found out I think I was onto my fourth or fifth pint so I would say pretty damned well happy.

So anyway, still managing to cling onto 1st division status for a little longer. The trip to Hartlepool may not yet be required after all, ooh but then we have the Stadium of Light. ;)

Well, I used to live in Sheffield. Near to the football ground. When I wasn't out getting pissed, that is. :)

I was being patient, but it took too long. I mean, I miss Buffy, I do. But life shouldn't just stop because she's gone.
