Just had to turn down a ticket for the semi final coz I can't get up to Manchester on Sunday.. bugger

Its probably a good thing, being used the quality of football that Woking produce, Arsenal would just be a let down :p

Well I thought it was the fabulous company you were keeping that put that cat like grin on your face not the fact that Stoke had won.

Oh and one more thing, Ho'away the lads. :grin

Well, I've quietly been following the Hammers & despite the fact that I may be pummeled, I hope they win today!!! against aston villa...

GO HAMMERS!!

and yes, they might lose, but hey, I rooted for the Detroit Lions for years upon years, so I can't be too far gone if I root for the Hammers!!!

Edited to add: 2-2 against AV... well, it wasn't a loss!!!!!

Blimey, that big "Go Hammers!" gave me quite a shock. Didn't realise there'd be any bubble blowers on the board - maybe a 2-2 draw isn't such a bad thing after all :)

Sounded like a cracking game, especially the second half. Don't much like this flirtation with relegation though. Prefer other forms of flirtation far more ;)

Well, the WUSA's season started last week.

I cheer for the Atlanta Beat, they have pretty uniforms. :D

They're also playing right now on the wonderful tv station that is PAX tv. No score so far.

ETA: Okay, well now it's 2-0 Atlanta. Go Beat! :)

Yay for Atlanta (Brianna Scurry rocks my socks). Even though my television decided it doesn't want to show PAX anymore ('cause it's probably too racey for us college kids here), I'll still support WUSA. It's kinda small right now, but here's to hoping it gets a lot bigger.

Well depsite losing 3-1 today, we (Stoke of course) are still managing to hold onto the 1st division by the skin of our teeth. I'm not sure if my nerves will hold. I need a drink.

Didn't help with Nuneaton Borough winning, did it Nikki? Which, I've got to say, I really didn't expect. I know they're my home town club, but the people who run it are...well, let's just say we don't see eye to eye on a lot of things and I wouldn't be too upset to see them drop out of the Conference.

So count me in as an honorary Woking fan for the rest of the season :)

Macc Town (Silkmen!) drew 2-2 against Torquay. But you know, I don't feel a sense of pride at drawing against a team from a place that's a holiday destination. I think Torquay, and I'm transported to seagulls dive-bombing for chip butties and ice-cream that's not really very well frozen...

Hey ho. One thing I've noticed is that the website for Macc Town is really good. As opposed to the football that they play...sigh. Always the bridesmaid, eh? Never mind.

I was being patient, but it took too long. I mean, I miss Buffy, I do. But life shouldn't just stop because she's gone.

Well that wasn't the prettiest of matches was it. May I congratulate Sheffield United for doing a Real Madrid and making Arsenal look ordinary (although when Henry came on he still oozed class).

If you're wondering where our resident Arsenal fan is she said to relay that "I have run off with Freddie and is off to play with her drill". hmmm. Interesting. Perhaps I should have left the last part off :grin

Glad to see other WUSA fans here. :applause I'm a Washington Freedom fan myself, but there really isn't a team in the league I wouldn't cheer for. :) I'm hoping to get down to Boston again sometime this summer and catch a game.

Being a Sky Blues fan (very sad) and a UKers, one of the funniest hings about a trip to the US last summer was going to see the Women's soccer. We saw Philadelphia play, erm another team!(Forget who)

Anyway, all the Americans were very enthusiastic and whooping and calling out "great play" etc. Me and my Brit friend did the usual Brit footie thing and yelled abuse! "You're blind ref," "Tackle her you prat," "Come on, *I* could have shot better than that you idiot" etc etc.

Our American hosts got quite embarrassed by us I think :D :D

Plus there were no pies.

Sonya, I trust you with one tiny little post and you have to add the drill thing. I put up new shelves ok. Had nowt better to do after the footy finished, stupid bloody BT. Anyway I'm back now, things between me and Freddie didn't work out. He drinks like a girl. :spin

I have nothing but admiration for Sheffield Utd. They came up with a game plan to stop us playing the game we wanted and stuck to it. They really did play well. I have nothing bad to say about them. Also for 10 seconds I remembered why David Seaman was the first choice England keeper for so long. What a save.

RUUD

Postby jaycatt23 » Mon Apr 14, 2003 11:55 am

Just have to say, that Ruud Van Nistlerooy is an absolute beast. He is the king of the world, and I'd so rather have him in my team than Henry.

He is the coolest man alive.

And, what made me chuckle lots about that slightly incredible game against Newcastle, is all the abuse Shearer got from the United fans. People with long memories. Ah, Shearer, could have come to play for a decent team...

John O Shea rocks, too. He should have scored.

Okay, Tomorrow night is probably the best match of the season. I unfortunately do not have the Sky sports channels so i will have to rely on Five Live for my commentary.

I'm a Man Utd supporter but however the match goes I think all who watch it are in for a cracker.

I agree the match tomorrow night should be worth watching. Sadly, I won't be, as I've to work, but will be cheering for the Gunners, much to the annoyance of my work supervisor!

I'm looking forward to going to Villa Park Saturday to see us play Chelsea, although I'll miss watching the brilliance that is Gareth Barry - what a wonderful player he is!

Hillsborough

Postby littlesplinters » Tue Apr 15, 2003 11:48 am

It's 14 years today since 96 Liverpool fans lost their lives at a football match. All my thoughts and love goes out to the friends and families of the 96.

Justice.

God, 14 years? It really doesn't seem that long. I can remember it so clearly, all unfolding on the telly.

It's unthinkable to imagine setting off for a football match, with so much hope and expectation and excitement, only for it to end in tragedy.

I just hope all that is behind us.

On a lighter note...

I'm not sure, but I actually think he'll be playing. I think his suspension starts two weeks from the last booking, which means it would begin a week Saturday against Everton.

Which is a shame cos I'd like to see him run rings round Rooney and show Sven what England class really is ;)

And oh my god! A claret and blue bouncing smiley! It doesn't get much better than that :)

Sol Campbell's red card

Postby amberbensontotallyrules4e » Wed Apr 16, 2003 3:40 pm

I've gotta agree, they have to uphold an appeal against that red card- and I'm not even an Arsenal supporter. I'm a very naieve Liverpool fan, y'know, I'm all with the we're so gonna whup arse and get in those Champions League places...:pray

But I can't believe he got red carded for that! Solksjaer made such a big deal outta that- and it could mean that Sol isn't in the England squad for the Slovakia game, and we all know what a meal we made of the last one, we need all the defenders we can get. Plus, even if it was malicious, Solskjaer plays for MAN UTD...almost means he deserves it:whistle .

And what is with refs right now? Are they all blind!?

Watched the game, but was far too nervous to really enjoy it.

Man Utd certainly deserved the draw, if anything due to a couple of awful decisions by one of the linesman, they were unlucky not to win it. Henry was miles off side for Arsenals second goal.

So it's looking like the championship is going to go to the final game of the season. I don't think that my nerves will take it.

Here's hoping that we put a few past Blackburn on Saturday.:pray

Re: Sol Campbell's red card

For a few blissful seconds yesterday I was extremely happy. Delirious in fact.

Y'see, my office likes a bit of a gamble. And I'd picked a peach of a bet yesterday. I got laughed at. I was mocked.

But I thought I was going to have the last laugh.

Because I'd put two quid on Van Nistelrooy to score first but Arsenal to win 2-1.

The odds were 100-1.

So he scores. I think, okay, game on. Then Henry - or Cole depending on your point of view - scores. And I start to get rather excited.

Then when Henry hits the second, I'm punching the air like nobody's business. I start imagining how much beer I can buy with £200. The jokes go round about having to get through a nail-biting 20 minutes. If only.

I hate Giggs. I hate football.

And it was never a red card.

Re: Sol Campbell's red card

Postby Zippy » Thu Apr 17, 2003 1:22 pm

This one really is going to go to the wire isn't it?

Last night my local was infested with Man Utd loving students so I wasn't happy. I spent the entire match on tenderhooks, unable to relax, even after several pints.

Bloody Giggs. It was so unfair, I had just about finished writing a gloating txt to a part time Man Utd fan and was already to send it, then the git scored.

It was no way a red card, I am praying the appeal goes well. We need Sol.

Give quiche a chance
