Ah "gender issues" regarding pets, I can relate to this, :lol ! When my family purchased our blue-point Siamese cat (13 yrs ago), we thought Mercedes was a girl, but when we took him to the vet we learned she was a he. So now every-time I take him to the vet (or someone hears his name) they always call him a she, and I think this is giving Mercedes some "issues".

It's also funny in November I found a stray female cat (we named her Precious), and now she is the boss of him. I swear she has taken over, and just pushes him around, poor Mercedes sometimes can't take the pressure. But they are my "babies" (with Mercedes he talks/whines, and when people call my house they think it's an actual infant they hear crying), and I do adore them!

We had discussion on another board regarding pets sensing when their owners are "down" or somethings wrong..When im not in a stellar mood, feeling kind of bummed, ill lay down and try to forget about it...Usually end up crying..

Chelsea, my cat, is so sweet, she will jump up on the bed next to me, inch her nose towards my face, then she'll lie there and stare at me...If i dont pet her, she

will occasionally reach out her paw and touch my face to let me know shes there..I dont know what id do without her :love

awwwww, I've just spent the past 20 minutes reading all about everyone's cats. Such cute stories! Of course, I have to brag about mine now. :p

The "family" cat that stays at my parents' house is a beautiful gray long-haired female named Chelsey (like friskylez's cat, but with a "y"!). Everyone always comments on how gorgeous she is. I don't know the particular breed - she's a mix of different things, but I'm pretty sure there's some Persian in there somewhere. She is VERY old - at least 17, because we got her as a full-grown cat when my brother was born and he's almost 16 now. We're all so attached to her. The bad news is that she started throwing up frequently back in January, so I took her to the vet and he said she had major kidney problems, that there was nothing he could do. He seemed surprised that she was even alive, the damage was so bad. We couldn't stand to have her put to sleep, so we took her back home, thinking that she would die in a couple weeks. Well, that was 6 months ago, and she's still here - but she weighs less than 3 pounds and can't jump up on chairs anymore, and can barely walk. It's so sad. She gets worse every day. I wouldn't have a problem with euthanizing her, except she HATES leaving the house, and going to the vet to be put to sleep would be a very traumatic experience for her, and I don't want her life to end like that - you know? So we just keep waiting for her to pass away. :(

Now that the sad part is over, I can talk about the happy part. When I moved out of my parents' house, I decided to do some sort of volunteer work with animals, so I became a "foster mom" for cats. This means that whenever an animal shelter takes in a new cat, it goes to live with a foster family until it's adopted by someone, instead of having to live in a cage at the shelter. So I take in 1 or 2 cats at a time, and take care of them until they find a permanent home. It's nice because I feel like I'm really making a difference to these kitties. Right now I have two boys - Tigger and Spike. Tigger is a HUGE orange cat; he weighs like 12 pounds! He's very cuddlesome and affectionate, but tends to be too curious for his own good. Spike (so named because he likes to fight and is pure evil :evil ) is gray and regular-sized. He took a while to get used to his new surroundings, but now he's very talkative and loves to roll around on the ground at my feet. (Weird, I know.)

Both of them have FIV (the feline form of HIV) so it's harder to find homes for them, but hopefully we will soon. It's gonna be hard to see them go! When I eventually get pictures developed, I'll post them here.

Wow, I can't believe I hadn't posted something here. And after an MKF story and everything. Color me chagrinned!

I live with two cats (because we certainly never own them!) that are sisters. One is short haired, and currently 13 pounds though she is not fat (or big boned!) Her name is Kisha for a Randal Garret sereis with giant intelligent sand cats. She is a tawny color with blackish rings.

Her sister is named Emma (and yes, from the Avengers TV show Emma Peel! I love that show too!) and she has longer hair sort of like a maine coon and is smaller at about 10 pounds.

I know the weights because we went in to the vet for shots yesterday and were not happy about it at all! (Can you say understatement?)

Kisha is more friskly and likes to play while Emma is very serious and plays full force unfortunately, though she is friendly to anyone who comes over. She really is a sweety but is also on record as a convicted felon!

Kisha likes to sit on my shoulders and helps me shovel snow or goes for short bike rides. She is more adventurous, though Emma is overall much braver.

Cats are great. I bet Joss doesn't have any or he wouldn't have killed Tara.

Pipsqueak, I love that you are a foster "parent" for cats waiting to be adopted..What a cool concept, i hate the fact that they have to live in cages while waiting for a new owner...Id love to do that except Chelsea wouldnt let me, she is so so jealous :lol

And so sad to hear about the one with the kidney problems, it would break my heart if something happen to Chelsea :(

I have three cats, each one of them I :love and adore.

One is grey and white, he's my little boy, and his name is Chubby. I have pics somewhere, but I need to scan them.

Then I have two all-black females, mother and daughter. Spooky (The stupidest name ever, but I didn't come up with it)

Then there's Piehole (Also, another name I didn't come up with)

Ah, here's my little boy--Chubby:

As far as the other two go, I don't think I have any good pics.

I would try to ask another vet's opinion about Chelsey. There actually are things that can be done to make kidney-problem-cats better. I suggest not taking the cat with you the first time and show him/her whatever exams had been made to her. Don't give up!

BTW, I'm owned by three wonderful cats. Two noisy and friendly boys -a siamese and a black- and one beautiful siamese lady. Cats rule! :)

I don't have my own cat because I'm really allergic (although if anyone here knows of a type of cat that won't make me sneeze, or make my eyes swell shut, I'd be grateful). I do take care of a lovely cat belonging to a couple who lives in the same building as me. I'm not sure what kind she is, but she has lovely blue/green eyes and is mostly white, with brown patches. Her name is Kali and she is is the sweetest and nicest cat I've ever met. She's my adopted pet (or she's adopted me, hard to tell!). When my friends go out of town for a weekend, I take care of Kali and spoil her rotten!

The two cats I live with are Occhi (a mellow orange tabby who is a total lesbian) and Muffy (a year younger or so, pretty feisty kinda-girlfriend of Occhi.) Everyone (my girlfriend and I share a 3 bedroom appartment with a gay male couple) dotes on them with treats and toys.

By the way, yes, my cats are gay. Occhi particularly. She used to be pretty jealous of me (to the point of hissing) whenever I kissed or touched my gf. It all ended when I got her a scratch box thingie that I misted with catnip spray. Ever since then, she runs to the door whenever either of us girls get home and actually meows whenever we say hello to her.

Muffy is a bit of prankster. She was a stray cat so, it hasn't been until recently that she's begun to stop running away from people and actually not throwing a fit whenever we pick her up, cradle-style.

For the record, I used to be a big dog person because I thought I was mad allergic to cats. My sinuses cleared up once I kept the cats out of the bedroom and gave them a bath every so often. Nowadays I can't help but smile when I see them chase jingle balls (those plastic balls with little bells in them) or purr.

What a sweet, cheering thread. I too have spent the last twenty minutes saying "awwww!" Thanks to all for the stories and pics.

My cat is a little female tuxedo named Yeti for her super-sized feet. She is polydactyl, also known as a "Hemingway," which means she has extra digits. Three apiece on her front paws, to be exact: little wee ones that make it look like she has a thumb. I was actually going to call her Thumbelina but it didn't stick. Polydactylism is a dominant trait, so lots of cat fanciers surmise that in the future, all kitties will have extra toes. So, I avow that my cat isn't a freak, she's just more highly evolved.

The extra bits don't get in her way at all: in fact, she is one hell of a climber and can palm a foam rubber ball, like a tiny little Globetrotter. Add this to her small size, the white star on her nose, and her little white chin, and you've got insanity-inducing cuteness. When she was a kitten, she was all paws and ears.

Many years (9 to be exact) of excessive kisses, snuggles, and sweet-talk, and she's gone from being a normal cat (standoffish, impatient, haughty) to being a love machine who rubs her face against mine, trills with hapiness when I come home from work, and lives for belly-rubs.

I encourage anyone on the fence to get a kitty companion. He or she will be a source of enduring comfort and joy. Try http://www.petfinder.com to find a deserving kitty (or dog) at your local shelter. And go to http://www.ratemykitten.com to swoon some more at insane kitty cuteness.

and other animals

Postby BytrSuite » Sat Jun 14, 2003 5:27 pm

I have four dogs and two birds. Just got one of the dogs yesterday, actually. I love animals. I've always been around them and can't really imagine not living around them.

So, here they are, www.pbase.com/bytrsuite/pets .

Sierra is the oldest, she's not really too active and is a bit overweight. We have her on diet food.

Dexter we got from some friends who saw him in a trailer park running around with a bunch of other dogs. He's a real sweetie and is very smart.

Midget was found in a used car lot my brother used to work near. They started leaving food out for him and we ended up taking him home one day.

Siara is the one that we just got yesterday. Someone couldn't keep her anymore because of the regulations of her housing and a friend of a friend thought we could use another dog.

They are all mutts of unknown mixtures. They seem to be getting along well enough, so that's good.

The parakeet is like 10 years old or something and he just likes to sit in his cage talking to himself in the mirror.

Fuzzy, the cockatiel, is my sweetie and she's sitting on my knee as I'm typing this up. She is pretty much adorable.

Hey guys, great thread.

O.K. We have two cats. I can't say they are always in the cute area, sometimes they can be down right little beasts. But I love them just the same.

We kind of inherited them with the house we bought. The house belonged to my partners grandmother, when we bought it she couldn't take the cats with her, so we got a house and an instant family of two male beasties.

Their names are Abbott and (not costello) Spider. Abbot is about 5, and Spider is 11. Being male they are both very aggressive, and through bad habits are constantly hungry.

Although they weren't cats that we had any choice in selecting, they do fill our house with ever welcoming purrs, and much night filled giggles watching the crazy things they do to themselves, each other, and us.

I really wouldn't want a house without a cat. The perfect leg warmer in winter.

Oooh talking about pets

We have got 2 dogs, both Golden Retrievers. A girl called Jess and a boy named Ace - they are just too cute for words.

Then we also have 3 cats, 2 tabbies and 1 I'm not quite sure lol. 2 boys, Smokey and Milo and the newest addition to our family a little girl named Misty. We have only had her for just over a week and she has fitted in just great.

I love animals but I think we might stop at 5 cause otherwise we are going to need a bigger house and we only just brought this one a few months ago

I've had several cats. Now I have a dog with me: a fat, lazy, wonderful dog named Robbie. He's so wonderful. These days it's really hot here and I sleep on the floor, I hear him patrolling all over the house and protect me while I sleep, then he takes rests cuddled beside me.

Soooo cute...:heart
