It would be great to make it to this. If financial issues improve count me in. The dates are fine by me and my vote is for San Francisco. Anything that requires an airplane ride is out of the question for me. The immense fear of flying I have will limit my participation, unfortunately. Plus, I really love San Francisco and I would really love to share that with a bunch of great people.

The only option for me would be in Canada... Even though I'm on a university student's budget, I still save up to take myself somewhere over the summer... Vancouver is lovely, so is Victoria... Also, great exchange rates for you American Kittens!

I think Lei and I would totally be into either Las Vegas like last year....OR San Fran...so...count our votes for those. Also, the dates should be fine too...I barely know what I am doing tomorrow let alone next summer

If we do Chicago I know a great bar that used to host Xena nights, who I'm sure would be happy to rent out the party room and let us have a Willow Tara fest or a meet and greet there. The bar is Stargaze, and they do have a websight which I can post the address of later once we all decide.

Well if it is in Chicago there is no end of things to do.

San Fran would also be nice, but hey let's face it, the west coast sees enough action.

I'll start lining up a babysitter. ;)

I'd have to vote for Chicago too, but I can get there more easily than anywhere else. I doubt that any venue is going to work for everyone. I would suggest trying to time the gathering with something else going on so that maybe more people could go there, say Taste of Chicago or something like that? Not that there isn't tons to do in Chicago anyway.

I'll add myself to the list of people voting for Chicago. Such a fab city. I'm going there Thursday night actually to see Alkaline Trio. There's such an incredible amount of stuff to do there.

I know how some feel about the guest of honor bit, but it does make me wonder if Amber would actually come if invited to a Kitten gathering, and support those with less money who would give anything to meet her...not to mention love and admire..ahm..sorry..fantsizing here..

1. Amber has no responsibility towards anything about anything. I wouldn't want to put her in a position where this is some kind of test she has to pass for certain fans to be satisfied.

2. It's not about actors, it's about meeting people. I will fly anywhere to meet the friends I have made. People I've already met and people I've yet to meet. This is what has made each gathering special to me. The presence of a special guest would distract from that purpose. Also, I'll be honest and say that I don't want people at the gathering who are there just to meet an actor. There are other opportunities for people to do that if that's their priority.

I understand that any Amber fan wants to meet her, she has made herself very wannameetable by being so nice, heh. As it is, she literally has fans from all over the world and it is impossible to give them all the opportunity to meet her. She has done all she can to meet as many fans as possible, more than anyone could have asked or hoped for I think. I think she supports us all with her work and her words and actions, what more can we ask for? Surely she can't be asked or expected to fly out and meet her fans for free (or at cost price), she does not owe us or anyone such a thing, I'd be really uncomfortable even asking. I hope that if such a request were ever made she would refuse because the end would be lost. So at the very least we would have to pay her, which means kittens would have to pay to see her and then we would have a convention on our hands, and that is not what this is about.

Hopefully you'll get a chance to meet her one day if she does a signing near where you live, it could happen (wishful thinking can really help in that department, believe me ;) ), she has been almost all over the world by now. Still, if she decides to stop doing that kind of thing altogether than that is up to her of course and it would not mean she cares any less about her fans, there is just so much one person can do.

Anyway, my official vote goes to San Francisco, given that this will be in the summer, that is the only city that won't have me melting into a puddle of yuckie goo on the sidewalk. Las Vegas will just have to wait for winter.

Let's just hope that Amber will have a long and successful career, with some big premiere events all around the world a la American Wedding, that way anyone can be lucky enough to meet her. And now let's get back to our regularly scheduled kitten gathering planning.

It was just a thought. Nothing to get upset about. Like I would have any way of contact her anyways.

Look, It was just wishful thinking. Despite living in Chicago NOTHING like that ever happens to me. And once again I feel attacked on the kitten board. I have been to many Chicago gatherings. The last one was small, maybe about 10 people at most. It was just a stupid idea, sorry.

Ok, so since xita lives in California and DrG votes for San Fran, and since Katie who I met at Sidewalk now lives in California, I guess I'll vote for San Fran ...or Chicago if that winds up being the consensus.....

I'm feeling very wishy washy this morning, silly me.

I really wanna meet more of you guys! :love

WiccansIllusion, I don't think anyone's upset. I know I'm certainly not. I thought as you did about a year ago, and then a kind kitten let me know about some of the more "obnoxious" (my choice of words) fans of Amber, and I dropped that thought like a hot potato.

I hope to meet Amber again someday. I think if it's supposed to happen, it's supposed to happen.

I think most of us are really protective and respectful of Amber's space, 'cause we care about her so much.

That said, I wanna meet more Kittens!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As much as I would love to go to San Fran, Chicago is the only option for me right now. Kids are still too little to take to a kitten gathering and too little to leave at the grandparents that long.

Besides there is only about a million things to do here.

Taste of Chicago is around June 30 to July 5 usually, the date for the gathering seems set at July 30-Aug 1.

Wiccansillusion, I thought it was a natural thing to wish for and would be great in theory, having Amber with those who have stood by her and supported her for so long. I don't think Xita meant to jump down your throat, though I'll admit perhaps she could have prefaced her comment with: That would be great but in reality it would cause a lot more problems... Having run SF cons, I can safely say that in the long run it would end up causing a lot of difficulties instead of being something special for all involved. Too bad that that is the type of world we live in.

I honestly don't think it would be a good idea in theory either for the reasons xita mentioned. It would cease to be a Kitten gathering as soon as a celeb would be there. Anyway, it is irrelevant, seeing as that is never going to happen.

How hot is Chicago in summer btw? I've been watching reruns of ER and that is set in Chicago right? I keep seeing snow in the winter episodes. Dare I hope you will not be able to bake an egg on the sidewalk in the summer?

Did I mention I hate the heat? :happy

Listen you insensitive *deleted*, if you do not want to listen to me whine all weekend long you better pick a cool place, and I mean cool literally, and not just the insides of houses and cars, I mean outside as well. Well let's see Chicago, in August.

Well as the say it isn't the heat, but the humidity.

It usually gets up to 90 degrees F (32 C) and the humidity is about 75 to 90%.

So yeah it is hot.

I'd like to toss my vote in for chicago, although I'm unsure if I'll be able to attend. Chicago is never lacking on things to do and sites to see, plus it's absolutely beautiful there.

Who were you then? And who are you now? That you think you can figure it all out, the mathematics of regret. It takes two beers to remember now, and five more to forget. That I love you so..what. Yeah I love you so..what.

Chicago works for us (Corky/Melissa/Triscuit and me) as well. It's actually better than SF in some respects for us (with the caveat that I haven't actually discussed this with my wife to confirm that she agrees).

I don't have strong feelings about any of the locations mentioned except New Orleans, which is pretty much my last choice.

So you're saying you want to go to Canada? I can deal with that. Just as long as it's on on the west coast. Too damn far.

That's my vote. I'll just be arriving back from a two week trip in July to manage anywhere else but Dallas, but we definately have some to places to romp should the kitties decide to perch here!
