EVERYONE.

I had not been paying attention till I heard an ad for the con on the radio today.

The Convention is NOT Downtown Chicago.

In fact it almost in the Northwest Suburbs, nearly 40 miles from downtown Chicago. I drive past it when dropping off/picking up my kids from school.

I'll post some bits about the area including my favorite places to eat and go.

Here is the website for the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center. www.rosemont.com/meeting/meet_desc.shtml

A map, www.oharenoise.org/onccmeetingmap.html

More in a bit.

Here is the Rosemont page to dining in & around the convention center

Dining/Bars

Please note that the sports bar has "great barmaid talent" ... that comment makes me barf, but it would be nice "eye candy" for many ... (they actually choose this kind of work??)

Also, remember that many people will be on a "budget" of some kind.

Now, anyone have any suggestions or favorites or dislikes??

I would still vote for meeting at the Convention center, maybe at the registration area or if their is a lobby. I like the idea of then deciding where to go after that. I would put the initial get together at around 7pm? That's my two cents.

Okay Kittens,

Where are we meeting at, need to confirm it soon before everyone heads out!

Do we all want to meet in the Lobby at the Convention Center?

Here is the link to the floor plan at the convention center.

The Lobby seems like a good place to me! 7-7:30pm

Okay, I'm just about to leave for the Airport. So, it's the Convention Centre at 7 - 7.30. I'll be the one walking around looking confused and speaking with an English accent. Actually, some kind of sign so I know who you all are would be very helpful.

Anyway, save journeys to everyone and see you all on Friday.

Hey all!

So is it all settled - are we meeting at the Convention Center at 7pm? My cousin and I will be staying at the Holiday Inn right across from the convention center...just FYI. Anybody else staying there?

Hope to see you all there!

I'll be at the con early and till about 2:00pm only. I have something else going on that night.

I'll be the blonde guy with a goatee wearing a grey Kitten shirt.

Here are my opinions on the various restaurants.

From www.rosemont.com/restaura...ants.shtml

Carlucci - never eaten there, heard it is good.

Gibsons Steakhouse - good and expensive.

Harry Caray's - touristy expensive.

Morton's of Chicago/Rosemont - very expensive.

Nick's Fishmarket - good, but overrated better sea food can be had.

Rosewood - never been.

Outside of Rosemont (your best bet).

Black Ram - fine. If it were still 1967 and you are in your 50s and smoke all day. Avoid. I hated it.

Bob Chinn's Crab House - hands down the BEST place to eat on this list. Not cheap, but it is casual and it has the best sea food in all of Chicago. Just drive north up River Road. Past Willow rd and you are there. HIGHEST RECOMENDATION.

Gino's East - Chicago style Pizzaria. Not bad, there are better of course, but this is really good.

Giordano's - a half a step down (in my opinion) from Gino's. But it is a step that only a Chicagoan would know or care about.

Maria's Mexican Restaurant - Really good. I recomend the black bean soup.

Shoeless Joe's - more touristy stuff.

Augie's Doggies Ltd. - SOOOO Goood. Home of a deep fried hot dog. Bring your Lipitor.

Not listed.

Papa Duexs - Cajun seafood at it's best. A step down from Chinn's, but Chinns is at the very top, this is still better than anything else for miles. Just a quick trip up Higgins/Algonquin Ave.

Cuisine of India – Indian food restaurant and buffet. So good. Get’s busy around 8:00pm, so if you go at 5:00-6:00 and it is empty, don’t despair it’s not because it is bad (far from it). I highly recommend the Tandorri Chicken and the Butter Chicken. On Elmhusrt north of O’Hare/Rosemont.

Kampi – Japanese steak house and sushi bar. Right next door to Cuisine of India.

There are only about 1000 good places to eat.

Keep in mind that a lot of Chicago area restaurants are smoke free. But nearly all have alcohol. Remember, this was the only place in the country where you could actually get a drink when the 18th Amendment was still law.

If you need any more recommendations ask here or email me.

If you don't know what I look like, here I is.

I am the big one! ;)

p.s. - I'll be at the convention center the majority of Friday - I believe most of you know what I look like. If not - look in the pictures thread...and NO - I will not be in uniform!

See you all there!

It's a chilly 50 degrees F (10 C) right now.

Friday's high, 68 F (20 C).

Dress accordingly.

And yes. While in Chicago you NEED to have real Chicago style pizza.

Hey Kittens,

We are leaving Oklahoma at 7am Friday, wish we could leave earlier, but my daughters daycare doesn't open until 7. It is a 12 hour drive for us, that is with out stops. I don't know that we will make it to the convention center by 7. Will somebody please call us(405-314-1536) around 8 or leave a number on here to get in touch to see what everyone is doing Friday night. We would really appreciate it.

Cant wait to see all the Kittens there!!

Well, we're in the Chi-burbs & getting ready to pick up another kitten & then we'll be heading to the ConCenter and then off to eats. If we run late, we'll meet you at the restaurant. (Someone will be there with my cell number to let me know where you'll be going)

Looking forward to tonight!!

We met in the lobby of the Rosemont/Convention Center...

Then we decided to walk down to Giordono's (sp?) for Chicago Pizza... had to wait a while for a table, but it was nice. It also gave us a chance to chat & so forth. (condensed version)

A great time was had by all & we took pictures, but I have to take mine to a 1 hour place & get the CD before I can post. Some others took some pics, so you may get some before mine.

GG & I are going to wander Chicago today & then, hopefully, meet some kittens tomorrow for a late lunch.... I'm going to suggest Moody's, since some of us have been there & it's a great place to eat & meet. Since WiccansIllusion can't get away until 2pm, I'm going to suggest that time. if you have any other preferences or suggestions, state them now. I'll be checking online this evening.

Edited to add a link to the website:

GG & I will be at Moody's at approx 2pm, if anyone wants to meet. We will be gorging on burgers, onion rings & some liquid refreshment.

I will have pictures from Friday night later in the week. Some people had digital cameras, but no internet access. Yes, we took the obligatory food pics... and one group shot.

Hey..If anyone knows Pudds (Wendy) they might wanna give her a ring..she came from England as i am sure you all know for the kitten thingy...Some kittens were suppose to meet up with her at the Shed aquarium at 2 on sat, but that never happened because some people canceled and others couldn't get there on time... I feel bad cuz we couldn't get a hold of her..so..if anyone is still in around in the area perhaps if they could get a hold of her and hang..i hope she met up with other kittens..

Another time, another place & lots of kitten fun.

I'm finally home in my own place & I am extremely tired. I'll let others give their reports & I will get my filmed developed, put on CD & then put on here... just give me some recovery time, please.

BTW... Moody's is still great!! GG & I had lunch with another kitten & it was a great meet. I'm still grinning!!
