Hey all,

I live in Sydney, Australia. It's a pretty cool place to live. Specifically, I'm on the North Shore / Northern Suburbs... about a 15 - 20 min drive to the city on average.

I go to UWS (University of Western Sydney), which isn't exactly close to home. It's takes just under an hour to drive there or if I take public transport, I'm on the train for 1hr 15min to 1hr 30min... plus getting to and from the train station. It's all good though. I chose to go there as opposed to somewhere close because of the cool classes UWS has to offer... and though the travel can be long (on average, it takes 2 - 2 1/2 hours with public transport) I know that there are some people who travel even further than I do!

It's a good thing that I chose to go to UWS too... 'coz that's where I met my beautiful girlfriend, Lorinda.

I also tutor trombone / euphonium at a primary school in Sydney's inner-west. I also have singing lessons at my singing tutor's house which is not far from the school that I teach at... so I go all over the city!

That's it from me!

I haven't seen many people from my area, so maybe I'll be the first.

I live in Montpelier, Vermont. There, shows my great grammar skills from such a short sentence. Good old Vermont is a nice state, very green and way too humid during the summer. We also used to have ex-Governor Howard Dean, having made his famous bid for the Democratic Nomination this past time, and, frankly, I'm pretty proud of him even if his bid failed. I am a firm believer that it was the media that made him flop.

I'm going to college in Burlington, at the University of Vermont. About 40 minutes from home so I'm not going too far. I just really like Vermont, mostly becuase of the great skiing season that it has.

Anyway, I haven't traveled too far from my home base. I have been to Mexico and England (what a beautiful country! You English Kittens are so very lucky to live there) but never traveled further west than New York.

So, um, yeah, that's where I live.

I live in a small town about 45 minutes from Washington, D.C. It's name is Shepherdstown, in West Virginia. It's got a lot of history with the Civil War as well as the Revolutionary War. The buildings are all restored originals containing a multitude of shops. The town is home to hippies, pagans, and lesbians. Artists, musicians, and thinkers all seem to converge in the area. Even the highschool in the area is open minded, some of the most popular people were gay, and people of different socio-economic backgrounds/religions/ethnicities were, for the most part, accepted. Yes, Shepherdstown is home to some very nasty yuppies, and a few bigots, but they exist everywhere. Oh! and Shepherdstown is home to Shepherd University, known in West Virginia as "the lesbian college." But think about it, how can you go wrong when the hot spot is a cafe/art gallery named "The Lost Dog?"

I'm from New York (Central New York that is... not to be mistaken with New York City).

My least favorite parts about living here? The winters! Winters up here are no fun, toooo much snow and we don't close anything easily (wow that was weird as I was typing easily Amber sang easily in 'Under Your Spell' as in "...brought me out so easily..." yeah when I'm tired I find weird things cool), there has to be a few feet of snow to close anything about here or a really bad storm..... I'm glad it's summer, it may be hot but at least I can get out the front door! I also hate that I live on the complete oposite coast of a lot of the things that go on with Amber (which would make sense considering duh! that's where she lives)

Okay Okay, its 4:59am.... time for me to go to bed before I fall asleep sitting here..... :yawn :yawn :yawn

I've lived there all my life....just moved from a flat to another one and then to a house....but that's it :)

What can I say about it? I love it.....but at the same time, I admit it's becoming boring to me....and I think for more people too, coz we have just a cinema and a few pubs....but what's really good it's that it's just 15 mins away from the beach WOO HOO :D And I have to admit that when summer says here I am, the heat is unbereable, makes people go :crazy :lol

You know, I was gonna skim through all the pages to see if anybody was near me, but then I got to page 4 and was like, "Forget it!"

So anyway, I live in Mascoutah, Illinois, which is in southwest Illinois. It's a farm town, population a little over 5000. The only reason our population is that high is because there's Scott Air Force Base about ten miles away. So we get all the military people. In fact, my dad's retired military, and he retired here. Mascoutah's about 50 miles east of St. Louis, Missouri to give you a point of reference. I've lived in Mascoutah almost my whole life. My family lived in New Baden, Illinois 'til I was three. That's 10 miles north east of Mascoutah. And the four years I was in college, I lived in Edwardsville, Illinois, which is about 40 miles north west of Mascoutah.

Yeah, I haven't gotten around much. I've visited various places, but I've only truly lived around here.

I live in a town on the outskirts of London, England. The lil town is called Yeading and is practially dead (not literally of course :p ) There aren't many things to do around here but I am surrounded by other towns like Hayes, Uxbridge, and Northolt that have loads of things to do like cinema, the mall, and generally hanging out on a wall in black with the rest of the rock fans in town. :bounce

So I like my town, even if theres not much to do...

Hey, Katie. There sure are other Southern Kittens! A good many of us, actually. Deeeeeep South. Don't get much deeper than Mississippi and Alabama, huh? :lol I'm in Alabama myself (Birmingham) and I know there are some other Kittens in Mississippi besides yourself. They seem to be shy, though. If you take a stroll back through this thread, you'll probably find some of us. (Also interesting are The show us where you live thread and the What's going on in your town! thread. Those poor threads could use some action.)

Anyway, whereabouts in Mississippi are you? I was just in Mississippi last month. Biloxi. Sadly, I did not break the Beau Rivage's bank. I think next time I'll head up Tunica way.

Southern Kittens... Well, technically, Texas is in the south... And the accents here are enought to classify us as southern.

I love it here in Texas and I would love to know who else lives near me... As you might have known, East Texas is in the Bible Belt and I don't have many GLBT friends...

This seemed like the most appropriate thread to post in - I thought about starting one of those weekly MKF!!! threads but figured why not use an existing thread. However, if the mods think this thread would be better elsewhere, let me know or of course feel free to move it somewhere more appropriate!

Another list I'm on did this mapping thing, Frappr, and it was fun to see where everyone lives all over the world. I figured that it would be neat to see where the kittens live in this format - you can post your hometown, your handle on the KB, and even a picture and a shoutout. So I started one for the KB - you can see it and add yourself at:

http://www.frappr.com/kittens

ETA: I just posted that and for some reason Frappr seems to be both slow right now and also it's not showing the "push pins" that are supposed to be there after you enter yourself. So if you clicked on the link and didn't get through, I guess all I can say is - try again!

Edited again: Frappr is working fine now. Artemis, what a lovely picture you have! You bear a striking resemblance to someone, I can't quite think of who, but it's on the tip of my tongue... (Hee hee, what if that were literally true?) :D

I'm from a suburban city Carrollton/Lewisville.. outskirt of Dallas, in Texas. I <3 my state and I <3 Dallas. So much to do, so much to see, so much history.. almost perfect weather... summer's last a little too long and get crazy hot, but being a native, I'm beyond used to it.

Anywho.. that is all

I grew up in Syracuse, NY

I have nothing to say about that.

I now live in Rochester, NY. I love it. It is a medium sized city, but with big city aspirations really. Birthplace of Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Kodak, Xerox, and 33% of all medical patents. It is also the final resting place of Susan B. Anthony and Frederick Douglass. I currently live on the street Susan B. was marched down in handcuffs after she was arrested for voting.

The best thing born in Rochester, however, is not human, electronic, or artistic. It is the culinary revelation; the garbage plate. Every dinner has their own variation such as the g-plate, messy plate, pig's trough (an especially appealing name for a menu item)

Imagine if you will, two hamburgers, cheeseburgers, or hot dogs (snas bun) tossed on a plate and smothered with french fries, macaroni salad, meat-based hot sauce, onions, and mustard. When I say tossed, I mean tossed. It is just a large heap of ingredients, a casserole if you will. It's name comes from the way the dish is served at it's birthplace, Nick Tahoe's. The various ingredients are stored assembly-line fashion in garbage bins (don't panic, they have never been used for actual garbage) and scooped out to order.

It is best consumed at 4am after a long night of merry making involving lots of alcohol.

Besides Garbage Plates, what I love about Rochester:
-Large gay population that is well received and even celebrated.
-4 distinct seasons
-Women's Pro football
-Grape Pie
-Festival season (One every weekend from Memorial day to Labor Day)
-incredible level of diversity in general
Many other things I can't think of right now

Things I don't exactly love:
-6 months of snow
-lack of public transportation
-8% sales tax
Towards the end of her life, Judy Garland was approached by a drunken fan who blurted to her, "Judy, don't forget the rainbow." to which Ms. Garland replied, with a flick and swish of her feather boa, "Darling, how can I forget the rainbow? I have rainbows coming out of my ass!"

I live in a small community in Southern California called Silverlakes, bout 3 hours away from the LA area and its out past old Route 66. Ever hear of Barstow California? I live about 15 minutes from there.

Its a small community pretty much away from anything interesting, theres a few plazas which are shopping places, there's some good resturants and such, there's the elementry school as well as the middle school I attended, but as for the High School's that's in Victorville, for us we call it "town" because that's where you go if you want to do anything interesting, it's a big city...if you want to call it that. There's an abundance of hotels and resturants but that just gives the teen scene places to work! There are no LGBT organizations, and in Silver Lakes either, so the few people I know who are gay are all I have. Ive lived here for about 12 years and man am I ready to leave!!!

So yep, that's my town!

This is making me homesick lol

Currently I'm studying at university in Newcastle-upon-tyne, in North East England, this is my third year now that I've lived here and I pretty much love it, it's a fairly big city with the opportunity to get out into quiet country places if the city life is getting to you, the people are more or less fantastic, and as I live close to the city centre I dont have to be a lazy bum and catch a ride to university, I can just walk :D

My hometown is about 300 miles away, Ipswich, and I haven't been back in 11 months! As I'm working in Newc and its so far away (well not as far as some people, but its 8 hours by car) I don't have time to just get a plane or bus down there :( My parents came to see me in June for my bday and I talk to them a lot so it helps a bit. I may go home after Xmas, but this year will be the first one I haven't spent at home, which is a daunting prospect. I'm hoping I'll have some good distractions lol.

Its strange really because I spent 18 years trying to get out of my hometown and moved as far away as I could, but you do appreciate the little things about it when you haven't been there in a long time. I for one would kill to be at the pub I used to go to with my friends, and spend some time with them reminiscing. Oh happy memories lol.

Anyway thats my little blah blah about my town. Hope you're not all in a boredom induced coma :p

Umm...I dunno if I'm gonna add a new country 'cause I really didn't have the time to read the whole thread (will get to that later).
I live in Santiago, the capital city of Chile which is located -as you probably know- in South America, next to Argentina.
I've lived here for, um...almost 10 years now (God, I'm getting old! hehe) since I moved from my home town Viña del Mar, a smaller city by the Pacific Ocean, 2 hours away by car.
I came to Santiago after finishing high school to pursue my dreams (med school) from which I graduated 7 years later (it takes 7 years of university to become an MD here) and I've been an ER resident, grad student (I got my M.Sc. degree just a couple of days ago) and W/T fan ever since.
Santiago is a 5 million people city, which is almost a third of the whole country population, and has all the good and bad things of a capital city: culture, some kind of tolerance...hehe, art, traffic, air pollution...I don't think I'll be able to live elsewhere since I got used to this city. But I must admit I miss falling asleep to the sound of the ocean every night, so who knows. I might return to my home town eventually.

See you later!

Chicago, IL: Where I was born. Hate it. Though, the theatre offerings are nice.

Blue Island: Where I actually live. It's a south suburb of Chicago. It's not bad here. Very diverse. Neighbors get along with each other and take care of their houses. Far enough away from Chicago to have better traffic, but still too close to Chicago for me to really like it here.

San Diego: Where I grew up (2nd grade through high school graduation) and spent my summers during college. I miss it. Perfect weather -- 78 degrees average all year long. I could play with my Christmas presents ON Christmas Day...outside. Again, very diverse. Name an ethnicity/nationality and it was probably represented at my high school. There was no mandatory bussing; we went to whatever school we wanted. The kids at my school actually gave a shit about education. Again, I miss it. Though, last time I visited, San Diego didn't feel like the city where I grew up. It's bigger. It's busier. It's more and more like LA and Chicago. I don't like that. I miss the San Diego of my youth.
