Riddley riddles of the riddlesome kind

Postby robotguru » Mon Dec 06, 2004 9:40 am

We all like our riddles yes? Whadda you mean no? Anyways...

What wingless flies, breathless flutters, toothless bites and mouthless mutters?

Some words end with 'gry', angry and hungry are two examples. There are three words in the English language. What is the third word?

You are sentanced to death (oh the humanity! I didn't do it gov, i swear!) You have a choice of three rooms. There is a room with an electric chair, a room with ten gunmen and a room full of lions that haven't eaten in three months, which room would you go in?

If the lions haven't eaten in 3 months, then they would have eaten each other & so that's the safest room.

(also, it doesn't say that the 10 gunmen have their guns with them)

Scrooge was better than his word. He did it all, and infinitely more… He became as good a friend, as good a master, and as good a man, as the good old city knew.. and it was always said of him, that he knew how to keep Christmas well, if any man alive possessed the knowledge. May that be truly said of us, and all of us! And so, as Tiny Tim observed, God bless Us, Every One!

The term gunmen would imply that they do :p

But yeah, the lions room is the safest. What about the other two riddles?

And come on kittens, post some of your own :p

maybe it does imply that they have guns, but just cause I'm a teacher doesn't mean I carry chalk around with me. Or that I always am teaching.... sometimes I'm a learner!!

I'd say the answer to the second is 'language.'

And yeah, room with the lions...cos they'd be dead from starvation.

Language is correct, there is no third 'gry' word, that be what we call misdirection, it's easier when it's wrote down lol.

Ok, how about my first one?

Ooh, i've done these before, i'll draw myself up a grid tomorrow and have a go, some are easyish to do but some are harder, i guess the fish bit will be the hardest to figure out. You're right though, it's pure logic, that's why i need me a grid with ticks and crosses lol.

Any guesses at my first or do you want the answer? I'll leave it a day or two.

You are nitpicking my dear. You are called a teacher, not a chalker. Gunmen are men with guns, of course the riddle does not say the guns are loaded, but for all we know the electricity is not working either. :p

I´d still take my chance with the lions though, they should be dead by now.

No idea about the first riddle, I suck at riddles, but they always seem very easy and obvious when I hear the answer.

Albert Einstein wrote this riddle early during the 19th century. He said that 98% of the world population would NOT be able to solve it.

There are no tricks, just pure logic, so good luck and don't give up.

1. In a street there are five houses, painted five different colours.

2. In each house lives a person of different nationality

3. These five homeowners each drink a different kind of beverage, smoke

different brand of cigar and keep a different pet.

THE QUESTION: WHO OWNS THE FISH?

HINTS

1. The Brit lives in a red house.

2. The Swede keeps dogs as pets.

3. The Dane drinks tea.

4. The Green house is on the left of the White house.

5. The owner of the Green house drinks coffee.

6. The person who smokes Pall Mall rears birds.

7. The owner of the Yellow house smokes Dunhill.

8. The man living in the centre house drinks milk.

9. The Norwegian lives in the first house.

10. The man who smokes Blends lives next to the one who keeps cats.

11. The man who keeps horses lives next to the man who smokes Dunhill.

12. The man who smokes Blue Master drinks beer.

13. The German smokes Prince.

14. The Norwegian lives next to the blue house.

15. The man who smokes Blends has a neighbour who drinks water.

I think I've got it, though it's possible my logic got messed up at some point. I've put the answer behind a spoiler.

1: Norwegian, Yellow, Water, Dunhill, Cat

2: Danish, Blue, Tea, Blend, Horse

3: British, Red, Milk, Pall Mall, Birds

4: German, Green, Coffee, Prince, Fish

5: Swede, White, Beer, Blue Master, Dog

So it's the german who owns the fish

Very Good Justin! That's the same answer I got. We can't both be wrong! can we?

The first riddle sounds very much like one that could have been passed between Bilbo Baggins and Gollum when they were under the mountain, doesn't it? Is it the wind?

Justin, you've got it all right (as far as I know :hmm ). And thanks for the nifty spoiler space.

Everyone who wants to check their answer for the Einstein Riddle should use Justin's answer in his spoiler.

wow these are really good riddles, i'm totally stumpped by them sometimes. I've head the english language one before, i was sitting there for days working it out :lol hockay, this isnb't really a riddle but it is good question that could be fun...wonder what you kittens think...so here we go:

Question

Its time to elect a new world leader, and you have the deciding vote. You have the choice of 3 candidates. Who would you choose?:

Candidate A: Associates with crooked politicians and consults with astrologists. He's had 2 mistresses and also chain smokes and drinks 8-10 martini's a day.

Candidate B: He was kicked out of office twice, sleeps until noon, used opium in college and drinks a quart of whisky every evening.

Candidate C: He is a decorated war hero, a vegitarian who doesn't smoke, has an occasional beer and hasn't had any extra marital affairs.

Who would you vote for? (I'll leave the names of the three candidates in a few days...Don't cheat and wait till I post them, I wanna know what people think.)(I should make this into a poll but it has nothing to do with anything :lol )

If this is pointless let me know...

C'ya round!
