My book's been published on Friday 1/28, MKF!!!

Postby BBOvenGuy » Fri Jan 28, 2005 12:23 pm

Yes, I'm very happy to anounce that my book, Liberty Girl, has been published by Royal Fireworks Press of Unionville NY. It's my first publication, although it's actually the second book I wrote (and I wrote two book-length Buffy fics before that).

Liberty Girl is a historical novel for middle schoolers. The blurb on the back cover reads like this:

"Eleven-year-old Eleanor Blizzard moves from Indianapolis to Baltimore in June of 1918 so she and her mother can be with her father, who is engaged in essential war work.

"In adapting to her new surroundings, Eleanor finds that there is much in Baltimore that is different from Indiana.

"This is a vivid depiction of the World War I homefront: the anti-Hun sentiment, the fervid patriotism, the war-time sacrifices, and the racist assumptions are all there, mirrored in the culture of junior high school, where Eleanor begins the seventh grade."

That's awesome. I was just wondering, where can I find the fics you have written? I would love to read them.

Congrats again! I wish you a world full of success.

Okay, details...

Unfortunately, my publisher isn't the most communicative of organizations. You'd think a publishing company would be good at communication, but apparently they're lousy at it - I've heard that this is not uncommon. Also, they market primarily to schools, so you don't find their books in Barnes & Noble, Borders, etc.

However, they do have a website with all the necessary contact info, including an email link. You can find it here:

rfwp.com/order.shtml

They say you can just tell them what you want - Liberty Girl by Robert Black - but I'll give you the ISBN Number as well. It's 0-88092-489-6. There's also an ISBN Number for a hardback version, but I was supposed to get a hardback copy if they printed one, and I didn't. I also don't have a price for the book - as I said, they're not very communicative.

As for my old Buffyfics, FanFiction.net is pretty much the only place left where you can find them. My page there is:

Bob,

Congratulations on this publishing endeavor.

As a writer with dreams of making use of my history degree, it is gratifying to see someone making the effort to instruct and edify school kids about the First World War, the roots of which are more arcane and complex than such overt villains as the Axis of WWII.

A big belated congrats to Bob! I hope you'll one day have a whole shelf of your own books to show off with pride, complete with foreign editions and translated versions in a variety of other languages.

Hey Jen, try this link:

It looks like FanFiction.net changed their URL format when I wasn't looking.

Meanwhile, I'm glad to hear that people are trying to order the book! I sure hope my publisher treats customers better than they treat authors. :shy
